Title: Taves' Rude Awakening

Taves Sarfell - August 11, 2007 04:54 AM (GMT)
Taves was woken up early the next morning. "Excuse me Sir. Um I think you are sleeping in my bed." Taves, only semi-conscious wasn't quite sure what was going on. "No, no I don't wanna eat that" he said, slowly awakening from a dream. The cadet beside his bed now started to shake him awake. "Wah what?" Taves said, now coherent enough to see the cadet next to him.

"What do you want?" He asked, clearly angered by the rude interruption of his week of leave. "Well I just came in and they assigned me this room." Taves was annoyed. He had expected that he would have to leave his room in the training center eventually, but he didn't think they would evict him the day after his promotion. "Alright, alright. Just give me a second to get my things together.

Taves gathered his things up and headed for the lobby. He saw Doren walking from the opposite hall, also toting his things. "Thrown out? he asked. "Yep" was Taves reply. "We need to go see Antilles." said Taves. "What for? We've already been thrown out." "Yeah, but if we've already been thrown out then we must have rooms somewhere else. Besides we're supposed to use this week to get acquainted with our new job." "True" replied Doren "True."

They found Antilles in his usual spot in the lobby. "Excuse me Sir" said Taves. "We've been thrown out of our rooms. This is supposed to be the week we get acquainted with our jobs, so I'd say our first question is where are we staying? Our second, or at least mine is is there anyone in particular we are assigned to protect or is it the very general range of the entire Royal family?"

Captain Antilles looked up from where he was sitting, noticing Taves and Doren carrying a bundle of their belongings. Having somewhat of an idea of what was going on, he nevertheless decided to answer their question first.

- "True, as you are no longer students you will of course not be sleeping in the Academy rooms any more. Rather, you have been assigned to the Royal Guard compound on the Palace grounds. Due to the commotion, i believe the lieutenant forgot to mention it to you, though knowing Var'keth..."

He smirked, knowing all too well what pranks Var'keth liked to pull on the newer members -- all in good fun, of course -- to take the pressure off of them a bit. Oh, he'd 'forget' to tell them something every once in a while, or play with words to create a deliberate misunderstanding, but whenever a mission was concerned he had always been crystal clear in his briefings. He hadn't gotten to his current rank for nothing, after all.

Still, no use in letting his mind wander off, as there was business to attend to. He had gotten a call from someone a few minutes ago, and he looked at the two as if weighing them in his mind.

- "As for your second question, the people we protect are generally anyone important. Not just Royalty, but also the person you escorted to Delaya a day or two ago, for example. The Royal Family is the patrt of the general range that only experienced, high level Guards may protect. Princess Leia for example is never allowed to leave the planet without at least six handmaidens and a dozen Protection Services members around her, for her own safety."

Taves Sarfell - August 12, 2007 11:26 PM (GMT)
Alright Sir, we'll head toward the barracks. Is there anything else we need to know? Otherwise we'll be on our way.

Jin-ho - August 12, 2007 11:38 PM (GMT)
Captain Antilles rubbed his chin in thought, looking the two latest additions to his guards over one more time. Taves had bounty hunter experience as well as a good set of armor and decent combat skills, didn't he?

- "Tell me... Can any of you pilot a shuttle, or a starfighter, or perhaps both?"

Taves Sarfell - August 13, 2007 02:01 PM (GMT)
Taves caught this last question. It was too out of the blue to have been a parting question. Taves sensed a mission.

"Well I have done a little bit of piloting in both. I'm not exactly sure my dogfight skills are up to par, but I can pilot both without getting myself killed. Why, do you know someone who needs shuttle escort. "

Taves knew it had to be more than that. If Antilles thought he could have used someone else he wouldn't have kept Taves away from getting acquainted with his new job. This had to be something that Antilles thought would fit Taves better than some other shuttle pilot or bodyguard. Taves felt a volcano of anticipation building up inside him, ready to explode.

Captain Antilles looked around him to see if there was anyone within earshot, then told him about the mission details. There was quite a bit of risk attached to the mission, but if everything went well there would be less risk involved as well. It was a mission he'd have felt safer about if one of his more experienced subordinates could be sent on, but Taves was both new enough to not be missed and had previous bounty hunting experience.

- "Your mission would be to head to the Yavin IV Spaceport, where you will meet up with someone called Christine Aren. Since this was originally her mission, she will fill you in on the details once you arrive. She's a Corporal in the Royal Guard, meaning she has the authority to give you new orders."

He waited for a bit to let it all sink in, then added something else.

- "Note that as far as anyone else is concerned, you're just enjoying your week of leave. Bring the armor and weapon you have here, but don't carry them openly. I'll arrange for it to bypass security at the Spaceport. Good luck, guardsman."

Taves Sarfell - August 13, 2007 10:46 PM (GMT)
Taves gave Antilles a quick salute and went toward the space port. Having everything together already was a great convenience.

Taves hoped that Doren wouldn't notice him while he was gone. Antilles would have to have a pretty good excuse for Taves to be missed. Fortunately Doren would be the only person that would notice Taves was gone. Taves headed toward the space port, ready to give his armor its first real test run.
