Blaster League
History:
Security Guards were a common sight on Alderaan, as all but a few companies had a team of them on the payroll. However, no one could suspect that a small boast from one CEO to another from a rivaling company would turn out to lead a life of its own.
The idea was simple: Get two teams of security guards in a small Holo-arena, and have them shoot at each other -- at nonlethal blaster settings, of course -- until all were 'dead'. It provided a good training exercise for the guard teams in question, and gave the CEO of the winning team bragging rights to boot.
However, as the small games grew, so did the audience. Where at first the battles were only witnessed by a select few representatives, this later on would become the Board of Directors, before growing on to Management, and ultimately, the entire company. By this time, the media companies had chipped into the newly emerging 'market', and a set of official rules was decided upon as well as a division of the planet into several Districts.
With the preparations now complete, all that was left to do was find a good name for it. The security guards themselves had already been calling it 'Blaster League' jokingly, and the name stuck.
Over time, mere bragging rights became a matter of prestige, and talented guards have been known to recieve sharp increases in salary as well as better chances at promotion, not always at their old companies. Young university graduates would join the draft at smaller companies, show their skills trying to get into their Blaster League team and hope for better offers from there, though it is not uncommon for the Empire to have a few recruiters among the spectators.
Rules:
The rules are fairly simple. The Arena is an hourglass-shaped Holo-field, with various possible terrain options, usually decided on by the Home Team. In it, six flags are placed, three for each team. These two teams, of twelve people each, would shoot at each other with nonlethal blaster shots, and special sensors would register a hit.
Should a person be hit, he can simply reactivate his suit after twenty seconds by walking back and touching one of his team's flags. This makes for quite a few aggressive tactics when it comes to taking flags from the opponent, as a team simply has to touch a flag for it to become theirs.
The game ends when all flags belong to the same team, or two 30 minute periods have passed. In the event of a draw, a third 30 minute period is played, commonly referred to as the 'Third Half'. Each flag in posession equals 20 points, whereas each active enemy shot down gives one point. Special bonuses can be achieved by completing certain objectives, like 'shoot three people in under a minute', or 'take a flag within the first five minutes'. These objectives are known to all at the start of the game, and clearly visible on the scoreboard screen above the Arena.
Due to previous scandals *cough*HK-47*cough*, droids are no longer allowed to actively participate in the Blaster League due to their programming giving them an unfair advantage over the more traditional lifeforms. Cybernetic parts are allowed under certain conditions, to be decided on by a committee.
Accidents happen, of course, especially in a rough sport like this. Every team is allowed three substitutes, which can be exchanged in between halves. In case of a heavier injury, the injured person may be substituted with one of the reserves if a Medbot confirms the player is unable to continue. In case of a deliberate injury, the player (or team) will be penalised depending on the severity of the injury caused.
Summarised:
- Two 12-man teams, non-droids, security personnel only.
- Arena is an hourglass-shaped Holo-field, capable of various terrains.
- 25 points for capturing a flag, 1 point per 'kill', bonus points for objectives.
- Once 'dead', suit will start functioning again after the person hit touches a team flag after 20 seconds.
- All flags in the hands of the same team ends game.
- Regular timespan: 2x 30 minutes, plus 30 minutes in case of a tie.
- 3 reserve players, substitutions during halftime(s) only, exceptions being game stopping injuries.
- Deliberate injuries may reduce team points and even go as far as to disqualify the offending player, or even the entire team.
Equipment:
All Blaster League players have the following items available to them:
- Training Blaster (only capable of stun setting)
- Radio and transmitter (built into helmet)
- Electronic bodysuit (connected to blaster, registers hits)
In addition, each team member has the option to choose ONE of the following items.
- Stealth field generator (personal range)
- Stealth field disruptor (deployable, area of effect)
- Stun grenades (5 max., restockable during halftime)
- Short range radar (deployable, arena wide)
These items may be looted from 'dead' opponents, allowing someone to exceed the starting item limit.
