Title: Site update process

Padmé - May 16, 2007 12:57 AM (GMT)
Hey there

As some of you may know, we have been working on updating this forum to give new features. Tried out many new codes for shops, automated money systems, and possibly an RPG code, it's a slow process as many of the codes either don't work or are not good enough. But we're going to keep trying.

It has been quite slow around here due to this and also because Anakin and myself just got back from a 3 week holiday which certainly seemed to slow member's activities sadly, but don't worry, we'll sort it out once we have the new codes set up and update the ruling system.

If you have any comments or ideas, please reply here, we'd love to hear from you!

...So you finally found that elusive hack you were looking for, eh?

Looking forward to seeing it in place ^_^.

Well I have someone helping me on one of the InvisionFree sites, so hopefully that will amount to something.

Yeah, hope everything works out in trying not to get the hacks to bite each other.

Just out of curiousity though, how many are you implementing? The impression i'm getting from this that you're going to add about half a dozen at least :unsure:

Well hoping to add a new money feature in which we can program a weekly wage, different for each member. Also, that the money can be actually spent in automatic shops where you can buy things. And also possibly some other RPG features. But it isn't easy!

Heh, i can imagine...

Only other forum i know that has a money and shop hack is a phpBB one i'm on... If it'll help, i could give you the link to it, but yeah, it isn't Invision ^^;

Hey thanks for the offer, but it has to be Invision codes for it to work sadly :(

And Invisonfree at that...

I think i found something though:

From what i can gather, it's a bit of work entering all the members, but after that it allows you to change people's money without messing with their postcount (and XP hack). Not automated though, but imho that would just end up messing things up.

Example:

CODE
sign = '$'
name = 'Money' // name of currency
PerPost = 5 // per post as opposed to 500 every 100 posts
default_amount = 500 // what you start with

MID=[]

// Admins

MID["Anakin"] = 100
MID{"Padmé"] = 100

// Handmaidens

MID["Jin-ho"] = -125

And so on... This would give Jin-ho $ 125,-- less than what she'd have from her postcount (being her tuition fee and the gift she bought on Naboo), and Anakin and Padmé both an extra $ 100,--. Normally, this'd just be 0, with monthly wages to be added manually (this is were the //comment categories would come in, showing which member is a member of what group).

Purchases would decrease this amount again, and yes, it can become a negative amount ;) Note that the counter in this case starts at 500, so no need to add that into the modifier. The reason why this would be a good hack to use would be because it allows you to alter the amount of money one has without messing around with his or her postcount, and thereby altering XPs.

Also, it can double as the XP Hack as well by making it a second entry. It's described in a post on the third page, but you'd need to update the main code because it's been improved over the past few years ^_^.

That's the hack we have but sadly it doesn't work properly. That's why we changed it to Experience points instead. There is the option ot change the money without changing the post count but for some reason when you insert the amount to change, it won't do it..... So there must be an issue with the programming, really appreciate your help though :) Wish there was more like you..... Sadly still waiting for a guy to reply on the Invision site, he said he would check through all of the codes for me and try to detect the problem but he hasn't written back about it yet :( That's why there is so much waiting around

Doesn't work? :blink:

Maybe i can take a look at it? I don't know the first thing about forum codes and Headers and Footers, but i suppose i could always try...
