Title: Frequently Asked Questions
Description: Read here before you submitt a question
Padmé - March 30, 2007 03:40 PM (GMT)
Here is a list of the questions we hear often, and their answers. Alot of them are outlined in the Rules but just to clarify, here they are again:
Can I start as a Jedi/ Sith?
No, everyone must start from scratch on this forum. Everyone needs to build up their characters reputation. Anakin and myself before decide who will progress to being a Jedi or a Sith depending on their posts, their character's attitudes and actions, and most importantly, if they are interested in seeking that line of work.
Can I be related to a known Star Wars character?
No, Anakin and myself control the main characters of the RPG for the time being but this is because we use them in order to help members with their learning and skills. Any relation to a Star Wars character gives an advantage above other members, so every member must have their own unique character.
Can I use the name first/ last name as a Star Wars character?
This very much depends on the character. If you wish to use the name Skywalker, that would be a no. If you wish to use a name of a Star Wars character, then it must be one that is relatively unknown and of course, no relation to said character.
Can my character be related to a Jedi/ Sith?
Again, this gives advantages over other members. With Jedi and Sith, the majority of them did not produce offspring, atleast not in the timeline that we are set. The main character of interest who had children was Anakin Skywalker, and this was a rare occurance. Once you have begun the RPG, and develop your writing and your skills, if you have good reason to be related to a Jedi, Dark Jedi or a Sith, in any way, and one that proves no advantage over any other members. You can ask for this to be allowed. But that would only be considered if you are an experienced member.
What possessions can I start with?
You can have inventory of any kind as long as they do not give you an advantage. That is why your character will not be allowed to start with weapons or have a means of transportation themselves. Weapons will be given to you depending on the occupation you follow and whether you complete the training. Same counts for transportation. You can buy tickets at the hangers or spaceports to other planets but you can not have your own ship until you save up and buy one with your credits or when you train to become a pilot.
Can I be related to an existing character of another member?
Yes, aslong as with everything else, you do not use it as an advantage. Just as other members can team up and help eachother with missions, you too can do this with your relative in the RPG. However, if you are wanting to be related to a member's character, then you must ask permission of that member first. If they do not agree, then no go.
Why do I have to write such a large profile just to be accepted here?
Well, we want to ensure that each member we approve is devoted, and knows what kind of writing they are expected to use in this RPG. This RPG should be seen as a giant story, so those who are good writers will florish here, but for those who are not so used to it, we can help. And by submitting a profile, we see that the member has put alot of effort into their character, and in the RPG sample, we have an idea of how they are going to perform, and thusly can correct or approve it.
Can my character be from any planet in the galaxy and be of any species?
For the moment, the RPG here is still young, so we prefer that your character is one of the species that we specified and also that they come from one of the planets that we have listed in our RPG. In time, once we have more members, the RPG will grow, and we will welcome more species as well as planets to the forum. So then you can alter your profime in that instance if you wish.
Can my character be of any age?
Yes, but it would be wise to think of the consequences of certain ages. If your character is a child or a young teen, then you are going to be unable to do almost anything, so it is best to avoid such ages. Also if you are very old, you are going to be limited also. But remember, no character can be immortal ;)
Can I play as one of the main characters?
As I said previously, Anakin and myself each play the main characters as a tool of helping members. In time however, we will be electing the best of our members to select from a list of main characters of who they would like ot play. You would not be able to use this character to benefit your own, but instead it would give you some power on the forum and also with the planet that the particular character is identified with.
Can I chose any occupation?
Yes, but you can not start as a Jedi or Sith. Any occupation you begin with, you start at the basic level eg stormtrooper, handmaiden, bounty hunter etc And no higher. That will require training. But for policians, you must go to university, but state the planet you would wish to serve as senator.
Can I study more than one course at the same time?
No, once you've chosen a course or a career path, you must stick to it. You can of course change your course, but you won't of course graduate from the course that you quit from and you will have to inform us if you want to quit. If you did complete your course or career path, you will graduate and have the option to study something else, but that depends on what profession you chose for. For example, if you became a stormtrooper it's unlikely that the Empire will allow you to devote your time to something else during your duty. And because of great secrecy in the Rebellion it would be hard to study a course too.
With politics the same applies, cause if you are a senator it's unlikely that you want to study to become a handmaiden is it;)
Once my profile has been approved, where do I start?
The best place to start is probably your home planet, but it is really up to you. The first thing you should look into is finding work, or going into study. If you chose to go into study then you must go to a university, check out the courses available and then see which you would like to pursue, all the information is on the pages of the university itself. When you study it is best to find a job to support yourself. You can either go to one of the shops, ask at a bar etc However, most study options provide you with an opportunity to work and be paid as part of study, so it is best to ask about that when you are applying for university. If you want to go straight into work, then you have to search around and see what is available to you.
Why do some locations have passwords to gain entry?
This is simply a feature of fun as part of the RPG. Most of the password related areas of the forum are that way cause only trusted members may enter. The Rebelion, The Empire, Senator's, Royals, Criminals etc all have hidden locations, so to emphasise this, we have given them passwords. You must gain the trust of someone related to that area to gain access. However, Lars' Homested on Tatooine is locked off because of Luke Skywalker's presence there. This is 3 years before A New Hope, so any visitors to that area would be very few, but if you have good reason to go there, then you must ask myself and Anakin for permission. As any events that take place there cannot interupt the timeline.
Can my character die in this RPG?
Well yes, we already have one deceased character already, but that is because the member's time has become so limited to the internet, so she killed her character. You have that option too. But to conquer death you can clone yourself on Kamino, although this is very expensive. You will return with all your posessions and your experience, when you give your DNA sample on Kamino, will be reproduced. All weapons, items, money you had on you, will be gone. But we have banks, so I would store as much of your money as possible. Also, the experience you had in the game will depend on when you gave your sample. More can be read about this issue on Kamino.
How do I fight in this RPG?
Your fighting will be purely descriptive. Just keep your posts realistic, and do not make yourself all powerful. For example, if you only have a vibrosword and you're fighting someone with a heavy blaster, you won't have a great chance to win. But of course this depends on the skills of your character that you have learned in training. We ask you to be FAIR when fighting and remember your character will not die unless we say so, same goings for others. But remember, no god modding, you cannot give another character injuries, or explain their actions in fighting, as with the rest of the RPG, you can only describe your own. But explain your own injuries, cause everyone would have them. Remember, stay fair and realistic, otherwise real forum conflicts will appear, and we will have to interfere.
How do I steal from another character?
This is very difficult. If you wish to break into a property to steal items, that will depend on the security of said place, and the realism in what you steal. If you steal a 10,000 credit painting, we will not grant that. You have to be fair and realistic, just as with fighting, and we will approve the credits you would recieve. With stealing from an actual individual, you can only steal items they have on their person, in their inventory. Any credits they have in the bank can not be touched. This also depends on skill, it would be more likely to steal from an untrained senator in combat instead of stealing from a trained soldier or Bounty Hunter who of course has faster reflexes and would catch you while stealing. If we see that the theft is unfair or unrealistic, we will again interfere.
Can I get married/ have children?
Well as in real life, of course! But you would need to have a 'union' with an existing character from the RPG, so of course if you develop a relationship with them, as in life, you can both team up. We allow any kind of marriage (male-male, male-female, female-female) except with under-age characters (under 16 years). Concerning children, again you would need to remember this is set 3 years before A New Hope. So they could not become newborn to adult in just a few weeks. They would remain babies for a long while. But both parent members have full control over that character, however small they may be :)
Can characters who are not Jedi or Sith trained have lightsabers?
Technically you can buy one if you wish, but it would be useless to you unless you were trained. The Lightsaber would just be a posession, nothing more. It cannot be used as a weapon.
What are the highest career paths we can expect to achieve?
Well as with any job, it takes alot of hard work to get somewhere. People often like to say 'the sky's the limit', but in this RPG, there is a glass ceiling ;) You could never replace main character functions such as Emperor Palpatine, Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Bail Organa etc as well as other main characters. The highest you can achieve is by being second to them. Which is indeed a great honor.
For example, in politics, the highest would be a Governor of a sector which would include a few planets. Second to that would be Senator of a planet.
With the Jedi, the highest you can achieve would be Council Member.
With the Sith, it would be Dark Jedi Master, as there is no Council.
With Bounty Hunters, would be trainers as Boba Fett is, who also gain the best Bounty contracts. We're talking about BIG money here.
With the Rebelion, you would become one of the leaders.
In the handmaiden career path, you can go down different routes, to either security careers or politics. With security you can become a Captain, and on the politcal side, you can again become Governor, Senator, but you also have the option to become Princess and then Queen.
With Black Sun, the highest you can expect is to be a Vigo of a planet.
And so forth, these are just some examples of what can be achieved. But the same with all, the higher you get in rank, the more power and credits you will recieve.
Can I use RPG samples from other forums for my Character Profile?
No, we allowed this once and we thought it was unfair to members who already applied their character profiles. You must create on based on your character that you have here. You can use it as an introduction to the character.
If I buy a slave, will that count as a secondary character?
Yes, but slaves can first of all, not be educated. Their soul purpose is to serve you, whether it be entertainment, service, protection etc. But either they stay at your side all the time, or they stay at your home if you have one, same counts for starship.
We are not allowed secondary characters, but can I make a character for the sake of one scene?
Well it depends, if you are wanting to purchase something then Anakin or myself must be involved and play the character you wish to speak to. But if you are investigating or wanting a conversation for the sake of one scene then you may create a character for that soul purpose. If it has anything to do with your education or how you spend your moeny on weapons, homes, starships etc, then Anakin and myself must be involved. But if it is part of your own personal story/ journey, then it will be accepted of course. Note that these characters are mostly for information or guidance on your journey. These are not to be used for any more advantages such as giving you objects of great worth. They cannot give you money of any kind. These characters are to be played fairly and simple manner. They also cannot tell revelations to do with the main characters of Star Wars, they also cannot have connections with them. If you wish to learn of a main character then you must speak with those who know them (controlled by Anakin or myself) or the character in question.
MORE WILL BE ADDED AS THEY APPEAR
Jin-ho - March 31, 2007 12:40 PM (GMT)
More of a suggestion than an actual question...
...But how about we add political standings to this thread? Kind of like:
Alderaan:
- Jedi's: Unfavorable
- Empire: Favorable
- Rebels: Very Unfavorable
Coruscant:
- Jedi's: Very Favorable
- Empire: Unfavorable
- Rebels: Favorable
...That kind of thing. Only for all the major planets and factions... ^^;
Anakin - March 31, 2007 12:58 PM (GMT)
It's not that black and white...it all depends and I think if you know something about star wars and you know the rpg, then these kind of rules are not necessary and would only make it more complicated than it needs to be.
Padmé - March 31, 2007 01:01 PM (GMT)
Yes exactly, also if we did something like that, then it would only confuse people about where they can go and where they can't go.
In actuality, a character is welcome almost anywhere in the galaxy, unless specified otherwise, so we do not need more complications I think. Everyone knows the present situation in the galaxy.... The Empire rules, then Rebels lurk in the shadows to defeat them, as well as the Jedi. That knowledge is all that is needed.
Jin-ho - March 31, 2007 04:07 PM (GMT)
Ah k, guess i've just gone and started thinking too hard on political standings again, haven't i? ^^;
My bad (again).
Anakin - March 31, 2007 04:22 PM (GMT)
Suggestions as these are always welcome. It shows that you are motivated for this game, so don't hold back! ;)
RayCaptain - April 1, 2007 12:25 AM (GMT)
this may not be a frequently asked question but how is there an Alderaan if the EMpire is here...You know it blows up in the movies but I'm not sure when it did blow up.
Anakin - April 1, 2007 12:31 AM (GMT)
Alderaan was destroyed in episode IV: A New Hope. In timeline that is 0 ABY (0 years after battle of Yavin). This RPG as stated several times is set before A New Hope. It takes place -3 BBY (3 years before the Battle of Yavin) so Alderaan still exists.
RayCaptain - April 1, 2007 12:34 AM (GMT)
oh ok I knew when THIS rpg took place but I didn't know when Alderaan blew up
Anakin - April 1, 2007 12:41 AM (GMT)
I think you should watch A New Hope again, cause by coincidence it happens in the movie itself;) That's why we always say that the RPG is set 3 years before A New Hope or 3 years BBY (Before Battle of Yavin). Don't worry, I think we know enough about Star Wars to put any flaws like this in it....
Jin-ho - April 1, 2007 01:01 AM (GMT)
Hmm...
*plans to evacuate my characters from Alderaan*
...But anyway, i was wondering about NPC use. In the thread where i'm applying for the University, i've had an NPC cousin come along for moral support (simply because she hasn't been on Alderaan long enough to know her way around the Capital yet).
I was wondering what the rules on that are, and if i got it right?
Anakin - April 1, 2007 01:07 AM (GMT)
It's fine, but you know the rules. This character can't give you advantages and can't be playable on their own, so I would avoid using that character too much, try to stick with your own character as everyone else does.
The Hunter Do'Urden - May 19, 2007 04:46 PM (GMT)
Ok I have a question. If I would like to have a space pirate character then wouldn’t I need transportation? A land based space pirate wouldn’t be much of a space pirate.
And if I can’t be captain as that would be a main character could I recruit others to join the space flying buccaneers?
But this is all according to character approval. Just having some thoughts. ;)
Padmé - May 19, 2007 08:31 PM (GMT)
As a pirate you have a ship, but you work alone to begin with.... When things proceed you can either gather more men to join you, or join another.
Olly2007 - July 16, 2007 11:24 AM (GMT)
Is there a way to get credits besides stealing? and if so how do we get them?
:)
Kalin Thalis - July 16, 2007 11:39 AM (GMT)
sure... get a job ;)
You said something in your profile of becoming a part of the Rebel Alliance, try to find them and become a Rebel Soldier. You'll get the minimum wage then probably of 500 credits every week.
lewy - July 20, 2007 10:54 PM (GMT)
A question I have considered for som time now...
AGING PROGRESS:
When will our characters become one year older? One year after you joined? When you want to? Never?
Kalin Thalis - July 21, 2007 12:00 AM (GMT)
Until this moment we haven't really decided if this RPG will progress to the battle of Yavin meaning 0 ABY...At the moment it still stays at 3 BBY (3 years before the battle of yavin) which means that indeed nobody ages. This can be debated of course...We can still age people while the RPG still takes place in the current timeline if you prefer and we can still come closer to 0 ABY, but to enter in the timeline when the classic trilogy starts is dangerous, it would require a lot of changes in the rpg itself
lewy - July 21, 2007 12:06 AM (GMT)
True.
Well, I'm happy with having a never-aging character! :D
Olly2007 - July 21, 2007 04:58 PM (GMT)
i was wandering if my character enters a building and talks to someone else do i need to wait for an admin to take over as the random npc or can i do it, im currently on dantooine and have been for about 5 days as i was not sure if i was suppose to be waiting or not.
just wandering
lewy - July 21, 2007 05:06 PM (GMT)
Unless the NPC is someone big, like the Emperor, Boba Fett etc., then I believe they are encouraging doing it yourself.
If it is for instance Boba Fett, my experiences tell me they are not überhappy if you do it yourself... ;)
Kalin Thalis - July 21, 2007 05:34 PM (GMT)
Indeed, it depends on the importance of the character, we especially play main characters cause they are important, and we don't want to walk off the path that leads to the films...we can't allow to make changes that would have concequences to the storyline of the movies...we like that the rpg is still kinda canon, though in many aspects it isnt.
But with npc it also depends how they benefit you, if they are to guide you a little, then you can play it yourself, but you can't use them for getting extra money, extra items, things like that.

gaaraofsand13 - November 29, 2007 03:49 PM (GMT)
Yeah, something I happened to ponder, but if someone got tired of their job (saying that one person is a Senator, and decided to give up his position) can he quit his/her job? Also, if a person wants to be a Jedi/Sith later on in the game, do they have to wait until one of the mods decides to let them become one, or do they go somewhere in the forums to try and apply to become one? Thanks :)
Kalin Thalis - November 29, 2007 05:51 PM (GMT)
yeah you can quit and take another job. The Jedi thing can be complex. First of all you have to be a motivated member, those get selected first. You have to be a good writer and active a lot so that we know that you are devoted. But that isn't the only thing which makes you become a Jedi or not. It depends how good you are, cause a bounty hunter has less chance to become a Jedi, but more likely a Sith. And it also depends in what situation you are so you are more easily approached by a Jedi.
gaaraofsand13 - November 29, 2007 10:04 PM (GMT)
Ok then, so since I'm a smuggler, and I decide to be chivalrous, such as saving pretty girls and defending the weak from those who would harm innocents, does that affect me being able to see Jedi or Sith more? I'm just curious is all.
Kalin Thalis - November 29, 2007 10:15 PM (GMT)
Well if it's about saving people then most likely you'll be approached by the Jedi...
gaaraofsand13 - November 30, 2007 02:07 PM (GMT)
Thanks alot! That really helped ^^
