History: Aran Dagra was born in the alleys of Coruscant, in the slums and darker ends far away from the senate and the brighter lights of the sky. Down in the underworld where even on Coruscant, there is crime to be done. His mother was Raiyne Dagra, a cantina dancer who spent her youth dancing and server customers with more than just drinks. This resulted in Aran, bastard child of the gutters. His early childhood was rough, pregnancy did little to help his mother’s career, and after she never got her shape back, and without the wages to pay for childcare she descended to lower means of occupation.

For Aran, much of this time was dark and troubled, a youth shrouded by resentment and bitterness, there was little hope left for him. When he was 14 his mother got him a job hauling cargo at the nearest spaceport. From there he met Giarri a twi’lek with disreputable contacts. After a few drinks at the cantina they became friends, and Giarri put helped Aran get other jobs, protection, a cantina bouncer, mostly violence-orientated. Wherever you were in the galaxy, someone could use another blaster. So Aran took up odd jobs and gained skill and experience. He never did cross the line from thug to murderer, eh killed in self defence or to protect his bosses, but never took a job to kill. Something always stopped him there.

During his time working with Giarri, he had found his own place, however small, and his own income, gradually losing touch with his mother. He wasn’t exactly sad, she had been less than perfect, and leaving to become his own man was a step away fro the life he was born into, if only one layer of scum above.

He spent his spare time at the cantina, watching races, playing cards, and drinking, enjoying the many pleasures of life as well as he could afford, never really aspiring to anything beyond the contentment he felt then. That was, until he met Jana. They first met over a table in the cantina, an open game of pazaak. When she sat down in front of him, he was taken aback for a moment. Eventually, he dealt and they played. The first game they drew, and then the second, and then the third, finally on the fourth Aran managed to wrestle the win by a difference of one. From there the two hit it off, and now, Aran’s spare time was spent mooning after Jana.

The next year was good for him, a girl he loved and a job he was good at, it was enough for him. Content and happy for once in his life, now positive with his outlook he went to search out his mother, if only to repair their damaged past. But when he finally tracker her down, she was dead, and Aran didn’t want to know how.

Refusing to let the news trouble him he returned to his career doing odd jobs. That night he received a good paying contract from Giarri, A protection job at his local cantina, late work but well paid too much to pass up. The previous night he had asked Jana to marry him, and she accepted, and he needed to make up more money to start a family.

It started well, covering a few shifty characters as they discussed business, Aran was on the entrance to the private corner of the cantina, Jana had just walked in and spotted him, coming over to kiss him.

Aran didn’t know if the thugs had been waiting for him to slip up or it was just fate but as he was momentarily distracted a group of three scumbags made a move to storm the private corner. Aran reached for his blaster and pulled Jana out of the way as shots were exchanged.

But it was too late, Jana had taken a shot in her back, and the blood was everywhere. He couldn’t take her to safety with the thugs shooting at him, he was trapped in a corner, with Jana dying slowly in his arms. He tried everything he could do to stop the bleeding, he covered it up, ripped his sleeves to use as bandages, and by the end he was praying and clutching her tight, trying desperately for anything he could do to help her.

The rest was a blur; he had either blacked out or had a concussion, the next thing he knew he was in a cell at the local detention centre. Jana’s blood was on his clothes. Eventually he was cleared of any charges, what he did was self defence and the whole cantina saw him. But he was a broken man as he left. Everyone he loved or even had ties to was dead. There was nothing left for him on Coruscant.

RP Sample:

Aran shuffled along the deck out from the shuttle. It was early morning and the light was just glistening over the tops of Coruscant’s many towering buildings.

He had spent the night drinking and his throat was raw, his eyes bloodshot and his face a wreck, stubble and dried tears. In his had was a half empty flask of juma juice, the other held a pack with his meagre possessions.

Ahead was the spaceport of the old district, if it could be called that. Docklands used by smugglers and spice freighters. Where people didn’t ask questions and didn’t care who you were.

Aran took a swig of his flask and wiped his mouth with his sleeve before stepping forwards. He had been in these parts before and knew what to look for. Crates, being loaded onto ships; a good sign of a departure. Captains in the old district were eager to get away with whatever goods they had, mostly because they were stolen, illegal or alive.

After a few tries he got lucky and found a human willing to take passengers.

“Where you headed lad?” the old man said.

Aran took in the surroundings. “Anywhere your going, doesn’t matter. I’ve got the credits and I want to leave.” He frowned and the man took his message.

“We’re just loading up the rest of these crates then we take off for the rim, you in a hurry you can help load, then I’ll show you your space.”

Aran took another look at the junk-pile ship, good enough for a washed up fool, if it crashed going to light speed then all the better. Aran couldn’t stay on Coruscant, whatever the alternative.

He took another drink of juma juice from his flask and picked up a crate.

(Note: my intentions, if allowed would be to have aran take up jedi training.)

Very good, I approve...Just a few things...you said you worked as a bounty hunter and mercenary, but if you start your training of course like everyone else you start from scratch. The chestplate is allowed, it's thin so it doesn't give you much advantage over others. The pocket knife is only to be used as a tool, not as a weapon, I hope you understand why.

As you know Jedi are picked, so you can't start training as a Jedi immediatly but if you prove that you are a skilled writer/player in this RPG then you will get the potential to become either a Sith or a Jedi.

Very good application, approved.

Righto, no problems with what you were saying,

as fo the bounty hunter mercenary stuff, that was only just to detail some of his past doing odd jobs to make money, its the formation of the backstory so I thought I'd put it in. wont really create any conflict as it can be seen as unprofessional and low key and not on a scale with current people int at profession. again just filling out the history.

And yep, pocket knife is a tool, it wouldnt even make a veyr good weapon in the future when other people have blasters and whatnot.

So Thanks for the approval, hope to have some fun wandering around. just have a few questions more.

I know jedi are picked, but obviously if my character were to become a hedi he would have to be force sensitive, which is an angle I'd work on before the jedi business happen, nothing major like jedi powers, just a general sense of mystery and granduer that comes from a connection to the force.

I thought I'd ask for approval on that too, just incase its a problem, as i dont want to break the rules.

Anyway, untill then I'll go have a look round and get to grips with the rest of the RPg before i post.

Thanks again.

Padmé - March 15, 2007 06:38 PM (GMT)
You see, Anakin is in charge of picking Sith and Im in charge of picking Jedi to be trained. Everyone is Force Sensitive in one way or another. If you want to give your character little hints that he is potentially strong in the Force, then that is alright, just don't overdo it. I must point out though, if you are going to be a bounty hunter, then your chances of being selected as a Jedi are very limited due to the acts you must perform in that profession.

Normally I'd be looking for candidates for Jedi to be from professions such as politics, rebels, royal duties etc... Those who do good. The very principal of being a criminal and desiring wealth is not favourable so it's up to you what you think you need to do if you want to become a Jedi eventually...

To be honest I think there are a lot more Sith potentials among the members than Jedi. I would have made mother_confessor a Jedi by now for sure, but due to personal reasons she can no longer be online unfortunatly.
So let us know what you intend.

Crusader - March 15, 2007 10:07 PM (GMT)
Well thats the things, it al adds up to nice plots

For instance, my character was a thug, and mercenary etc, but wont be taking that path anymore, he saw his mother die in the cesspits of crime and his only love die because of his work. Its put him in a position he cant deal with, so he's running away not knowing where to go or what to do, turning his back on who he was, and looking for some kind of peace. And hopefully if you approve that will lead him to the jedi (Though eventually, and also if allowed, he would be a grey jedi).

i think the sith to jedi ratio is also ripe for plot exploits, now outnumbered it could lead to desparation in te ranks which is enough for interest between the two groups, and maybe that desperation leads to the jedi taking risks with recruitment. They are after all, as human as the rest of us, and have made their share of mistakes in the past.

Anakin - March 15, 2007 10:20 PM (GMT)
ok, that's all fine

about gray Jedi tho...depends what you mean with the concept.
If you want to be a completely independant Jedi, then the answer is no for now...the concept is not far from Dark Jedi and at the moment there are also not really dark Jedi either...they come under the name of "Sith".

Now Qui-Gon Jinn was a presumed gray Jedi, simply because he was very rebellious, onorthodox, but he was still a Jedi, loyal to the order. So if you think of it that way, then Padmé doesn't have a problem with it.

Padmé - March 15, 2007 10:23 PM (GMT)
Personally I do not like the concept of Gray Jedi, and normally I don't recognise it, but as long as you were loyal to the Order as Anakin said, then that is fine. But in my opinion, the fact that the Jedi are in such a dire situation after the purge, rebelious students would not be accepted as it would be seen to be a waste of energy on someone who could turn from the light. So if you wanted to call yourself a Gray Jedi, I'd accept it..... Of course, if you are selected for training based on your posts, but if you swayed too far from the light then you would be kicked out of the Order without a doubt.

So it really depends on what your plans were for your character.

Crusader - March 15, 2007 10:32 PM (GMT)
Alright, thanks for the input, and ill just clarify my intentions when i say 'grey jedi'

I dotn mean rebellious (or at least not outright)

What i mean is not accepting the traditional restrictions of dark and light, and that both sides are equally flawed in their restrictions.

the essence comes (though this will be defined in post) that aran discovered his force sensitivity when his lovde died in his arms, to him, it was his emotions that brought the force to him, but at the same time, it was death and despair that aided him. Then he wouldnt be too convinced if he were restricted in his feelings, as they were what set him free (the duality of this is what i hope to explore).

while at the same time he wouldnt be a 'dark jedi' as you put it, he doesnt seek to kill or do wrong, the contrary, he wants to help stop suffering across the galaxy, he just doesnt want to let go of the feelings he has.

Anyway all this is still speculation, So i'll go make a post somewhere since all this jedi business is for now just contemplation.

Padmé - March 15, 2007 10:43 PM (GMT)
Well from what you have described, I think that would be fine then..... But first you need to focus on making yourself a good candidate for choice ;) I should point out to you that there are professions and planets I do not look into because they are Anakin's responsibility. At the moment Coruscant is the only neutral planet, as in Anakin and I both have interests there. To give you a guide, here's a little list.

Anakin

Korriban
Mandalore
Ryloth
Tatooine
The Death Star
Kamino

Padmé

Naboo
Alderaan
Dantooine
Yavin IV
Bespin
Taris

The planets each of us control, represents the occupations we look over. Anakin takes care of the Bounty Hunters, Imperials, Sith, Smugglers etc Whereas I look over politicians, royalty, Jedi, Rebels etc.

That is because at it's essence, Anakin is in charge of the Sith so is looking for "dark" candidates, I am in charge of the Jedi so I am looking to the "light" side.

That is why I was concerned on you being a Bounty Hunter, because to do that you must train on Mandalore, and that planet has nothing to do with me. And I don't check up on it. To be sure, politicans and royals can be dark as well, but it is less likely for a Bounty Hunter to "see the light", than those of political arenas.

Crusader - March 15, 2007 10:47 PM (GMT)
Well thats all good then, as i said, I'm not going for a bounty hunter, my character just worked a bit as one before, but not anymore. Anyway i'm off to write a post and get into the swing of the rpg.

Padmé - March 15, 2007 10:53 PM (GMT)
Have fun :) Look forward to seeing what you come up with!
