History: Darth Vader began his life as Anakin Skywalker. When Qui-Gon Jinn was on a mission to secure a peaceful settlement for the Naboo, this led him to the desert planet of Tatooine, where he found Anakin Skywalker, a slave boy. He won his freedom by winning the Boonta Eve Pod Race. Qui-Gon gave him the option to become a Jedi Knight, which he accepted. Though Anakin struggled to leave his mother behind, they both knew this was the best life for him, and he swore to return one day and free her.

On Coruscant, the Jedi Council tested his abilities, and though he was exceptional considering he had had no training, it was the decision of the Council that he would not be trained. Qui-Gon debated this as he was certain Anakin was “The Chosen One”. The one who would bring balance to the Force. But because of his duty Qui-Gon had to accept the Council’s decision.

During the Battle of Naboo, Anakin proved his skills as a pilot by destroying the Droid Control ship of the Trade Federation. Though with this great victory for the Naboo, also came great tragedy. Qui-Gon was killed by the first Sith Lord to emerge in a millennia, and as a dying wish, he asked his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi to train Anakin. Obi-Wan kept his promise and the Council granted Anakin as his padawan learner.

As a padawan, Anakin proved himself to be very powerful but also very rebellious, especially against his master. They often disagreed and Anakin felt like he was held back. When one tragedy ended, another one was about to come. When Anakin was assigned to protect Senator Padmé Amidala, after 2 assassination attempts, he fell in love with her, which was forbidden according to the Jedi Code. During his mission, he struggled with his emotions and had visions of his mother in pain. He felt he had no choice but to return to Tatooine.

Accompanied by Padmé, he went back to his home planet after 10 long years, only to learn that she had married a Moister Farmer named Lars, and that she had been kidnapped by Tusken Raiders. They believed she was already dead, knowing the Tuskens as they did. But Anakin felt that she was still alive and swore himself that he would find her.

Invading the Tusken Camp, he was reunited with his mother only for a brief moment. She was dying in his arms, declaring her love for him. She died and the Dark Side swarmed inside of him. And overcome by his hatred of those who had caused this. This resulted in the massacre of the entire Tusken Camp.

He returned to the Homestead with his mother’s dead body, and there she was buried. He confessed his sins to Padmé, and she tried to comfort him. He then swore to himself that he would never “fail” again. This promise would come back to haunt him in years to come, and be a catalyst to his undoing.

In the rescue attempt to save his Master Obi-Wan on Geonosis, Anakin and Padmé were captured and sentenced to death along with Obi-Wan. As they were being taken to the execution Arena, Padmé confessed her love for Anakin.

The three of them where rescued by Jedi Knights who were sent along with the new Army of the Republic, the Clonetroopers. After this, Anakin and Obi-Wan followed and confronted Count Dooku. This resulted in Obi-Wan and Anakin becoming overwhelmed by the Sith Lord’s abilities, with Anakin losing half of his right arm. They were rescued once again by Master Yoda, who fought Dooku. However, Dooku escaped, this was the day the Clone Wars began.

After his recovery he was left with a bionic arm, he still struggled with mixed feelings, both of love and hatred. He escorted Padmé back to Naboo, and here in secret, they married.

During the Clone Wars, Anakin proved to be a cunning warrior, and in desperate times there was need for more Jedi Knights. Which resulted in Anakin’s ascension to a Jedi Knight.

For 3 years the Clone Wars raged on, but he and Obi-Wan were called back from the Outer Rim Sieges to rescue Chancellor Palpatine, who had been kidnapped by General Grievous. On the General’s flagship, Anakin took revenge on Dooku by decapitating him on the influence of Palpatine.

They escaped with a crash landing on the surface of Coruscant. Anakin was once a hero again.

He was reunited with Padmé after many months of being away in the Outer Rim. However, the future was now in question. Padmé was pregnant but in his dreams he saw her die in childbirth. Anakin promised himself that he would not lose her as he did his mother.

Palpatine took advantage of the situation. Luring Anakin with a solution to save his wife from certain death. Anakin saw through him and it became clear that Palpatine was the Sith Lord they had been looking for. Though he hesitated to kill him, he revealed this revelation to Mace Windu. Anakin was ordered to remain in the Temple as Mace and a group of Jedi went to arrest Palpatine.

In the Council tower, Anakin sat in his worries, hearing the voice of Palpatine luring him ever more. And the fear of losing Padmé caused him to act against the Jedi. In Palpatine’s Office, he was in conflict over the fate of Palpatine. Mace Windu saw no other choice but to kill Palpatine as he was too powerful. Anakin did not agree and wanted him to stand trial. As Mace Windu lifted his lightsaber to execute Palpatine, Anakin struck and chopped Mace’s hand. Mace was then consumed by the wrath of Palpatine’s power, and was struck with Force Lightning. He then fell to his death.

With the promise to save Padmé’s life still present, Anakin gave in to the Dark Side.

Darth Vader was born.

His first mission as Vader was to destroy all the Jedi Knights at the Temple. With the 501st Legion at his side, no one survived the massacre. And throughout the galaxy, Anakin’s betrayal spread as Order 66 was executed.

Master Yoda and Obi-Wan survived the Jedi Purge and discovered Anakin was responsible. Obi-Wan refused to kill his former apprentice, but there was no other way. Obi-Wan revealed the truth to Anakin’s wife, Padmé, but the truth was too overwhelming for her, and she could not grasp Anakin could’ve done as she was told. In desperation to save him from himself, she left secretly (she thought) to Mustafar, where Anakin had said he was going to end the war. Obi-Wan stowed away in her Naboo Skiff, knowing that she would go to Anakin.

On Mustafar, Padmé saw with her own eyes what Anakin had become, and begged him to come back to the light, and to her. Obi-Wan emerged from the ship, and Anakin in rage believed Padmé betrayed him, and brought Obi-Wan to kill him. He choked her almost to death but dropped her on the ground.

To Obi-Wan, Anakin said he would create his own Empire as his lust for power was still growing. Loyal to the Republic and democracy, Obi-Wan had to stop him and they duelled to the death over the lava streams.

Ultimately, through his overconfidence, Anakin fell to his doom. He declared his undying hatred of Obi-Wan, who was still in denial that Anakin was now dead, and that he was staring at Lord Vader. Obi-Wan watched as Vader was engulfed in flames and burned horrifically. He left with Anakin’s saber which he intends to one day pass on to Anakin’s child.

After his fight with Yoda, Palpatine felt that his new apprentice was in danger and took off to Mustafar, arriving just after Obi-Wan had departed. There, he and 2 Shocktroopers rescued him and brought him back to Coruscant.

Vader was reconstructed and placed in a black, bionic survival suit. And also placed with a mask, as his lungs had been gravely damaged by the fumes and flames on Mustafar. On his recovery, he inquired to the fate of Padmé, to learn from Palpatine that she had died then because of his actions. His anger erupted destroying the room completely. He cried out in despair at his “failure”.

In actuality, Padmé died of a broken heart on the colony asteroid of Polis Massa. Unknown to Vader, she gave birth to Luke and Leia, their children. She died moments after. The decision then came to separate the children of Vader to protect them from him and the Emperor. And thus, Leia was sent to Alderaan, hidden within the Organa Household. And Luke, accompanied by Obi-Wan, was taken to Tatooine, to the Lars Homestead where Anakin and Padmé had stayed a few years previous.

Vader still believes that his wife and child died through his actions. However, he did not accept complete responsibility for her death. He blamed his former master, and still swears revenge.

Shortly after the Imperial transition, Jedi Knights attempted to kill Vader by spreading the word that Obi-Wan Kenobi was present on Kessel. There they awaited him, having prepared a trap. Although, Vader proved to be too powerful and he survived by the help of his Legion. Palpatine took advantage of Vader’s disobedient actions and spread the word that he assassinated a nest of 50 Jedi, which was untrue but so a legend was born.

The Jedi Purge continued over the coming years. Vader still hunts the scattered Jedi until this day…..
