A scout trooper is an Imperial stormtrooper that has been specially trained for scouting and reconnaissance.

Scout troopers wear specially modified lightweight armor with greater flexibility than standard stormtrooper armor, and often use light repulsorlift vehicles, such as the 74-Z speeder bike, in the course of their duties, earning them the nickname "biker scouts". Although not wearing the best camouflage for a forest/jungle environment, unlike the Grand Army of the Republic clone swamp troopers, the scout troopers made up for it with speed and flexibility on a speeder bike.

Scout troopers are very different than a normal stormtrooper. They have a special visor that helps them see better in their environment, as well as concentrating their attention directly ahead so they can steer better. However, some people do seem to have trouble with this, as at least one stormtrooper was heard talking about how the helmet impaired his vision.

Training involves the use of light blasters and speederbike training.

Later Scout Troopers can train to a second level which involves more complex weapons such as thermal detonators and sniper rifles. It also includes moderating probe droids on distant planets.
