Title: Queensberry | ON MY OWN

Taller In More Ways - November 6, 2009 05:42 PM (GMT)
NEW ALBUM ERA: ON MY OWN

user posted image

The Queensberries Gabby, Vici, Leo and Antonella have made their comeback with the incredible new studio album On My Own. With a little help from songwriters Karen Poole and Kara Dioguardi they've achieved a new sound universe, moving away from the bubbly 60's pop on to a little more profound pop music.

I dont think theres any Sugababe fans here....
haha

I'll give them a go
i adore the pre Amelle/Jade sugababes.

Taller In More Ways - November 6, 2009 05:50 PM (GMT)
Do that! Download their record if you can find it. :D

Their vocals might not be as characteristic as the Sugababes, but soundwise I think "On My Own" definitely IS the second THREE.

Plus I can safely say they're HELLA nice!! Gave me a couple great laughs during the interview! :D

BostonJames. - November 6, 2009 05:52 PM (GMT)
I saw the album on a blog a few days back
it interested me slightly
but i passed by it!
i'll give it a go after i'm done watching Modern Family.

You definitely missed out on something! :P But to be honest... if I weren't asked to interview them I would have overlooked it as well. XD Didn't follow their career so far.

And yeah... it's BETTER than Monrose's 'I AM'! So everyone who was disappointed will find satisfaction.

BostonJames. - November 6, 2009 05:56 PM (GMT)
Dont tell them that!! haha
Im sure you've done your research.
My lil special man - grabs marks cheek -

I did - the evening before I had the interview. XD I've spent hours watching their videos and downloading the albums. *lol*

Personal thoughts on the album:

TOO YOUNG I feel is definitely their anthem so far! It's very strong (I just wished they would have had stronger vocals to really OWN the song) and the melody's slightly nostalgic. Kinda feel it, as I was the same when I look back. :P

ON MY OWN I find very disappointing, especially after Vici has mentioned that it's her favourite song off the record when I've asked them about their favourite tracks. I've expected some HUGE 'Too Lost In You' kind of ballad. But it's definitely not.

I FEEL YOU must be the best uptempo track on the album! It's definitely screaming to be the second single. Love the chorus, though it's a bit corny. The 'I've got nothing left to hide' part is hip!

LOVE ON THE RADIO is the pure pop version of 'Nasty Ghetto'.

CHANGES is another standard-type ballad. But it's slightly better than 'ON MY OWN' in my opinion but definitely in the same manner. So we have two totally equal ballads which is meh. but yeah... can't help it.

HELLO (TURN YOUR RADIO ON) is a cover! A very good one, no wonder it became the second single. Clean but professional pop song.

GIRL LIKE ME (NONCHALANT) is fun! XD I love it, it's so cheesy! It's like something you'd expect in church on Sundays. A little bit of gospel, a little bit of reggae... sounds lovey-dovey!

LIFELONG LOVESONG IS the standout ballad on the album! Finally a ballad which hits me harder than the dry-washed CHANGES or ON MY OWN.

SELFISH is Christina Aguilera-ish Back To Basic-like. ;)

REPLAY sounds dusty but it's pretty amazing! Sooo smooth and their vocals match the sweetness of the song. The chorus is a little melancholic. Love it!

EVERY NOW AND THEN is another single worthy track. Very melancholic dance-pop song in the style of NEVER GONNA DANCE AGAIN by the SUGABABES.

Well, i just watched the videos you posted
and i'm not sure
The instrumental and production is great
but their vocals and lyrics are nothing short of appauling
its all very standard
They're real pretty girls though

You're lucky your no bearded clam lover
Your member might get excited interviewing them!

Yes they're vocally not that outstanding, but soundwise it works for me.

They're still improving me thinks. There's still a little bit of the old Queensberry sound on the new record. But overall they drift into the direction of Sugababes' old pure pop back in the day.

I love TOO YOUNG. :D

BostonJames. - November 6, 2009 06:41 PM (GMT)
Yeah, out of the four Too Young was my favorite.

Taller In More Ways - November 6, 2009 07:01 PM (GMT)
I think REPLAY, EVERY NOW AND THEN and I FEEL YOU are almost as good.

Mr. Ace Reject - November 6, 2009 11:31 PM (GMT)
This album is boring as hell. For me it definitely doesn't come any close to Three or I Am. I would offend those two great albums if I'd say this.
Too Young is a nice song, but it was already available on the deluxe edition of Volume 1.

It's not better than THREE but definitely comes close to its sounding. And considering I AM... I thionk that's very arguable. I don't think I AM was particularly amazing. It had its three to four striking hits, but ON MY OWN has them as well.

I still enjoy listening to I Am. I only skip A Love Bizarre. I don't think I will listen to On My Own again.

I've had TOO YOUNG, GIRL LIKE ME (NONCHALANT), REPLAY, HELLO (TURN YOUR RADIO ON), EVERY NOW AND THEN and LOVE ON THE RADIO on repeat today. :)

Like it very much. It gets slightly unspectacular towards to end though.

This album is downloading so slowly, really want to hear it though, thanks Mark!

Wow! - November 8, 2009 03:59 PM (GMT)
I personally think its unusual they've done a cover of a shakespere's sister song. It doesn't really suit them tbh! But I guess i feel this way because I'm so used to the original.
