Title: The Cockroaches of Pop
Description: New York Times article

The Cockroaches of Pop

Less-than-flattering nickname for The Sugababes – a British girl band which has prevailed despite numerous line-up changes.

Commenting in The Sun on the departure of the last original member of The Sugababes, Sean Hamilton observed:

The Sugababes are the cockroaches of pop – they could survive a nuclear war.

Singers come and go but the band lives on. It almost doesn’t seem to matter who the members are any more. A bit of styling and a slick video and they’re all the same.

LOL it actually made me giggle but this is so true: "It almost doesn’t seem to matter who the members are any more. A bit of styling and a slick video and they’re all the same." Quite wierd they're making bad news on the US b4 starting promo there...

It's not bad news. They (the american people) don't know Sugababes' history.

Still its not making anything positive for it innit? lol

And we're on internet era now, so as soon as people start to get interested in them it'll be a couple of days till the whole "all the original member's been replaced" will come up.

I Guess it doesn't really matter to a new fan how many members are original and how many members have been brought in since the band began

It can work both ways too. The old saying "no news is bad news" applies quite well here - yes the babes' have been in termoil these past weeks but that is in the past now and people are beginning to move on.

I do not not know much about the American market but what I do know is not many of them have really heard of the Sugababes - so it will make interesting reading for any protential new-commer fan to the band to learn a bit about the before and after of the history side to it.

On a positive spin, it could even endoudge one or two to think - "Let's see what they come up with,,," prolonging longetivity for a protential fan.

I live in the US and I can tell you all that the Sugababes have NOTHING to worry about in terms of bad publicity. No one knows them here. At all. When they come here, they will be a completely brand new band starting from scratch. So, this article will be ignored entirely. It means nothing.

Lmfao. That comment was funny.

The American public WILL NOT care. Being American, we are the most fickle market. Im sure the word will get out but since there is no attachment to version 1.0 - 3.0, it'll be fine.

Lets hope they are like cockroaches. I want my grand children to be fans of Sugababes 18.0

What I dont understand is that when Amelle joined the band she said she was a "Sugababes fan" and yet I heard words of mouth that she messed up so many of the lyrics and now Jade says she was a "Sugababes fan" but I am sure she will mess up too, why do they say that when they dont even know the lyrics? A "fan" to me can recite all the lyrics.

I became a Sugababes fan when Amelle joined the band, so I did not really understand how people felt regarding Mutya's departure. But now that I have been a fan for awhile, and see that Keisha left, I understand how you feel. And to be honest, I will miss her very much, it is going to be weird to hear Jade singing Keisha's lyrics, especially for the old songs.

i'm a sugababes fan and i can't recite ALL of the lyrics. and yeah amelle made mistakes..but wouldnt everyone now and again when you're nervous singing live in front of huge crowds. even keisha and heidi mess up songs now and again! it's natural

i don't have to know ALL the lyrics of all the bands i like..i'm too forgetful! doesnt make me any less of a fan

mitsuhoney - October 2, 2009 01:29 AM (GMT)
I guess thats true! lol! :angel
