Title: About A Girl (Official 2nd Single)

Aidan - August 2, 2009 09:45 AM (GMT)
Keisha confirmed to a friend of Mylan's (Suganet), that the title for the second single is About A Girl.

More info here: www.twitter.com/thisissuganet

:)

SugaNET.info - August 2, 2009 09:47 AM (GMT)
It's an old school Sugababes uptempo song.

Robert - August 2, 2009 09:54 AM (GMT)
So it seems that About A Girl is infact a track, after all of that confusion on Twitter. I'm so glad they realise they need to make the right choices when launching the album - upbeat is definitely the way to go!

Wow! - August 2, 2009 10:03 AM (GMT)
Lol of course it was a track. I dunno why there was doubt in the first place. Can't wait to hear it (Though it might be a while yet!) Upbeat is the best way forward deffo!

Robert - August 2, 2009 10:09 AM (GMT)
I think there was confusion because of the way Keisha phrased the sentence:

A track called "No more you", written by Neyo and About a girl!!!

She used inverted commas for No More You, but just a capital letter for About A Girl. Personally, I thought it was a track, but I can see why people were mixed up.

Wow! - August 2, 2009 10:14 AM (GMT)
I guess. I kinda type like that tho sometimes where I forget certain things like commas etc ha! If there wasn't a song called "About A Girl" then i guess it would of been something like "A track called "No more you", written by Neyo and Its About a girl!!! But anyways haha.

chilln_chick2002 - August 2, 2009 10:17 AM (GMT)
Whenever Keisha or any other member from Vol. 3 describes their new material as 'old school Sugababes', I get skeptical.

Going to try to stay positive, but the fact that Ne-Yo wrote it depresses me. Hope it's more on the lines of Freak Like Me meets Round Round.

AmelleLover26m - August 2, 2009 11:37 AM (GMT)
Good to hear we know the title of the second single already - at least it can build some anticiaption for it early doors.

Twitter really needs to incorperate a "bold" feature. Then you can put

the song title is About A Girl and its written by Neo.

Would make alot more sense :P

sugaste - August 2, 2009 01:56 PM (GMT)
A while ago when the 'Babes where in the studio with Red One, Amelle tweeted about loving the song they where recording, quoting the lyrics "You don't know about a girl."

This leads me to believe About A Girl is one of the Red One tracks.

Right. Keisha's tweet didn't necessarily say About A Girl was written by Ne-Yo. It was a confusing tweet...and even though one confusion has been cleared, it has created another one.

i think we should wait cos i think that everything can change
don't know what about AWDF but plans with their singles from each album always changed

Kiku - August 2, 2009 05:49 PM (GMT)
RedOne doing "old-school" tracks? hmmmmmm..... lol

Thanks 4 the info Mylan x

thisismethen - August 3, 2009 03:40 PM (GMT)
I love all these references to the past

I was dumb, I was wrong, I let you hurl
but I know how I feel About A Girl!

Face it boy we're through, and I aint got time for your conversation so sorry, No More You!

HeidiLoving - August 4, 2009 09:58 PM (GMT)
I'll make "About A Girl" the first sugababes single since "Hole In The Head" that I won't listen to until the video's out. I think it's more exciting if you watch a brand new video without knowing the song :P

OH MY GOOD GOD THANK YOU FOR POSTING! Love it!

chilln_chick2002 - August 8, 2009 08:57 PM (GMT)
I already prefer to Get Sexy.

It was made FTW cuz Heidi finally sings 1st and shares the middle 8 :P.

Wow! - August 8, 2009 08:59 PM (GMT)
On the first listen I was very excited. The music and the verses really make the song imo. The chrous is kinda weak. The song gets much better towards the end. Its quite euro-poppy, I dunno what other people think but thats what I instantly got. I didnt get USA vibe as much too which is great. I really like the song. I will probs love it by 2moro. ha

chilln_chick2002 - August 8, 2009 09:02 PM (GMT)
TBH, I was more afraid that they would sound like Lady Gaga or some other crap artist that he worked with. Definitely better than what I expected it to be.

Can't stop listening to it. Hopefully, the smae person uploads their other new track.

Wow! - August 8, 2009 09:04 PM (GMT)
Deffo. I don't get GaGa at all. I spose the music is kinda similar but thats it. I'm really excited now to hear the other song. I wonder what the song it was. (Maybe a possible 3rd single?)

Lol, Tommy. Get Sexy is a massive disappintment compared to this in my opinion.

The intro ALONE should be out of this world on the studio version. However, the RedOne shout out is hilarious!

Sugababes UK - August 8, 2009 09:14 PM (GMT)
Wow, the chorus is great. I love the ooh-ooh-higher---- bits, it's really catchy and the studio version should be even better.

I hope the youtube poster got the other track as well.

krajol - August 8, 2009 10:05 PM (GMT)
I don't like this song too much :( I hope it'll grow on me

Wow! - August 8, 2009 10:23 PM (GMT)
Lol. My post went :|
Oh well.

triakel - August 8, 2009 11:18 PM (GMT)
I like it.

Not sure about the lyrics though... it's almost TOO simple, if you know what I mean.

But I guess it's the same with Get Sexy, I adore that track, even if the lyrics are... well, not the best.

Catfights & Spotlights had fantastic lyrics. But it seems like that's not the most important thing right now.

However, the great melody makes me forget about the awful lyrics.

(Sorry if I'm a bit incoherent, I'm a bit drunk now, just got home from a party.)

chilln_chick2002 - August 8, 2009 11:27 PM (GMT)
I don't want to derail this thread so I posted another exclusive track Thank You For The Heartbreak in the album discussion forum.

lovething - August 9, 2009 04:25 AM (GMT)
I think this song is a throwback to late 90's dance. Like "absolutely everybody" and some other tracks. It's weird electropop. Strangely familiar but not. I do like it, but it does almost seem too simple...like they are dumbing down their existence to sell albums.

But on another side, it's freaking awesome feel good music. I just hope that the album is not full of fluff and has some depth that every album thus far has had...at least some tracks that make you think..."a girl group is singing this?"

As far as I am concerned, these songs thus far could have been sang by GA, Saturdays, etc....and do well, but I love those groups too so it is not necessarily a bad thing, they do sell lots.

I just think the first two singles are setting a bad tone for what we should expect from the album. With the credibility that they had for the past 6 albums, I'm afraid that this is just setting a wrong tone and could ruin them as the girl group it is cool to like...ya know? They are maturing vocally, but unfortunately the music is not.

Robert - August 9, 2009 09:32 AM (GMT)
I think this album is going to be one of my favourites. About A Girl sounds amazing, but I'm not listening to it too much because I'd like to save myself for the release, even though that's quite a while away...

Interesting point of view and that was a good read.

I think one reason you can tell that is due to the fact of the last album. It did flop and they had to go back to this sort of music to fit back into the scene. Although on saying that, they always do strive to be different everytime they come back, and as you said, you can see that in this new music.

If it does well for them and makes them a success then that is the main thing and of course we will always continue to support them as a group. You mention their musc is not mature but saying that which group music that does pop is mature?

The babes did try it last time and nobody gave two sods about it bar their loyal fans who did buy the album. The general public hated it and it wasn't main stream enough.

I think they will always try to fit into which ever scene the industry is going through, but you always know the Sugababes will do somthing their own way and always try to put their own spin on it.

I think I love this song, especially ooh-ooh-higher part :D

Taller In More Ways - August 9, 2009 07:15 PM (GMT)
Serious competition for Madonna's 'Celebration'. About A Girl brings back the rave.

Natalie.x - August 9, 2009 10:42 PM (GMT)
This is such a good song! Better than Get Sexy IMO.

Yeah, totally agree, love that part too. :D

Sugababes UK - August 10, 2009 10:36 PM (GMT)
I can't wait for this song to be massive like About You Now and for everyone to throw their hands up in the air at the "up, up higher" bits at gigs.

I agree with you. In a reply to the statement that it's not mature. I just meant in terms of going from heart wrenching ballads like "follow me home" then to "can we call a truce" to uptempo tracks with some meaning like "about you now" and "denial"....it's just hard to take them seriously musically when the substance of the songs has gone flat. I mean, other than the hardcore fan or those album buying public....if I didnt know the sugababes and heard either of the two singles Get Sexy or About a Girl, i'd seriously reconsider buying the music.

All in all, these songs arent going to reel in any new fans, and they may stifle old ones like me. I will always love the music they put out. I just get concerned for their direction. I want them to be huge, worldwide so they can continue to make music til they are grannies. But I just do not want them to lose the soul and individuality that made me like them in the first place.

I guess either way I end up looking like a grouch not happy with change and that is entirely not the case. I just want them to continue to succeed and not lose sight of what it is about. the music.

*edit...and I did some music research. The beat in About A Girl is definitely a rift of Vanessa Amrosi - Absolutely Everybody....whether intentionally or not, given the backlash that the "girls" cover was, then the "right said fred" rip and now this...people could start to doubt their ability to be original.

Rich - August 12, 2009 01:42 PM (GMT)
This song is brilliant. My friend saw them perform it live and said he is no longer a fan and they have sold out...
They're making great pop music which they always have, and I love this and Get Sexy as much as anything else.

I don't think this will have competition from Madonna. "Celebration" is released mid-September and "About A Girl" is released late October/early November.

Aidan - August 20, 2009 02:15 PM (GMT)
The release date is confirmed as 2nd November.
