I'm EXCITED about new Mariah! I dunno how I feel about the song yet,I've only heard it once.

Natalie.x - July 25, 2009 01:22 PM (GMT)
Only just listened to this now.
I love it straight away! :)

chilln_chick2002 - July 27, 2009 12:59 PM (GMT)
The song is meh ;) while the video is bloody awful. No wonder it's flopping already.

Aidan - August 1, 2009 03:06 PM (GMT)
The album release has been delayed until mid-September. :(

AmelleLover26m - August 2, 2009 01:09 PM (GMT)
Her new single is somthing a teenager at school would write about - all it is, is a comback at Emenim - and fully deserved as he does go too far with his songs and insullts people.

Personally I feel she should of not got so distracted by his antics and used her abilities to do somthing new and fresh. Her new single is very bland and somthing we have all heard before.

I really miss her Day Dream era and before that, 1995 and before was deffinatly her peak in my view. I know alot of people disagree.

Aidan - August 4, 2009 09:42 AM (GMT)
I agree, I think I'll always prefer her music from the 90's. :(

Rich - August 12, 2009 01:48 PM (GMT)
I wish Mariah would just go away.
She does the 90s stuff well, anything since then is just a bit.. tacky
(Don't kill me Heather! lol)

Aidan - August 18, 2009 02:52 PM (GMT)
The release is now been pushed back to September 29th. I think she's delayed it due to the bad reviews from the listening party.

The official second single has been confirmed as 'I Want To Know What Love Is'. I am glad about this, although it hasn't leaked, it had been praised in the reviews from the listening party.

ALBUM TRACKLIST ALERT.

'Angels Cry'
'Betcha'
'Candy Bling'
'H.A.T.E. U.'
'Impossible'
'Inseperable'
'It's A Wrap'
'I Want To Know What Love Is'
'More Than Just Friends'
'Obsessed'
'Ribbon'
'Standing O'
'Up Out My Face'

They've not ordered the tracklist yet but those are the 13 songs that have made it, in alphabetical order.

'Angels Cry' is an honest-to-god ballad a la Vision of Love. 'H.A.T.E. U.' stands for 'having a typical emotional upset'. 'It's A Wrap' is 'doo woppy'.

Mariah Carey fans who go to the store to pick up her new album on September 29 better bring extra cash.

Island Def Jam will release a three CD collector’s set the same day as Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, Rap-Up.com has learned. The box set will include the songbird’s first three Island albums, 2002’s Charmbracelet, 2005’s The Emancipation of Mimi, and 2008’s E=MC², and be sold at a special low price. The packaging will have space for a fourth CD (hint, hint).

In addition, those who purchase the collector’s set will receive a Mariah poster to remind them of all the money they just spent.

'Obsessed' climbs back to #11! Top 10 seems almost certain for next week now. 11-20-17-14-14-11. :D

Ok, I don't like her new stuff really but that box set is tempting... I love box sets!

Sounds great but it's not on the album.
It's on the soundtrack to her new movie.

Listening party review from BET:

QUOTE
Earlier this week, L.A. Reid held an exclusive album listening event with various members of the press for Mariah Carey's upcoming "Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel" album, due out on Island Records in late September. The room listened attentively to the tracks that were previewed in L.A.'s candle-lit corner office.

After the album's prelude, "Memoirs" leads off with MC's first single "Obsessed," which has already reached #1 on BET's "106 & Park" countdown show. But the song is followed by a powerful blend of uptempo dance tracks, mid-tempo R&B jams and heartfelt ballads.

L.A. Reid confirmed that Mariah's second single will be the remake of Foreigner's classic "I Wanna Know What Love Is," where Mariah exercises her vocal range. On other songs, Carey continues to show off her unique talents, singing her heart out on "Angels Cry" and "Ribbon."

Written and produced entirely by Mariah, Tricky and The-Dream, the album's strongest selling point is its musical consistency. The tracks seem to flow into each other nicely, and as usual, Mariah has more than enough potential singles. The writing on songs like "Standing O" will keep all-time Mariah fans happy, while a younger audience will appreciate the down-to-earth rawness of songs like "Up Out My Face" and "It's A Wrap."

For most of the album, Mariah is belting out notes that only she can hit, and by the end of the session, the entire room was applauding her efforts. L.A. thanked the attendees for their time, before insisting that the album was what he believed to be a "classic" ("and I don't say that too often," he said).

14 songs including the prelude/intro then. No mention of H.A.T.E. U. at all so presumably it's not a contender for a single.

Mariah is living in a fantasy world. She needs to take a que from Whitney Houston and acknowledge that her VOICE is no longer the same.

When she tries to do vocal gymnastics, especially live, she ends up looking like a dumbass. I knew she was delusional, but she has hit rock bottom since she married that joke Nick Cannon.

This is bound to flop!

The remix of 'Obsessed' has been released to UK iTunes and is already at #30. :o

From Amazon's review of the album:

QUOTE
The no-nonsense "Up Out My Face" captures a similar caustic mood, dismissing a former lover with the send-off, "When I break, I break, boy." "It's a Wrap" delivers a similar message about the end of an affair: "When it's gone, it's gone." "Standing O," with its irresistible chorus, sardonically applauds a faithless ex for his signature achievement: "You played the one that loved you the most." "Betcha Gon' Know" foresees karmic revenge for a wayward lover, but, once again, the clever lyrics ("Oprah Winfrey whole segment for real, for real / 20/20 Barbara Walters for real, for real") encourage a smile amid the pain.

The ballad "H.A.T.E.U.," meanwhile, finds the singer seeing life in the wake of a breakup and longing for the moment when loss and regret transform into a cleansing anger. But the title of the song doesn't necessarily stand for what you think it might. "H.A.T.E.U. is the first song I wrote for the album," Carey says, "and it stands for Having A Typical Emotional Upset."

Always a brilliant technical singer with an extraordinary vocal range, Carey rises to new heights on that track. "I sing a recurring melody in the upper register of my voice; it's not an ad-lib, but an integral part of the song's hook," she says. "That's not something I've done before, and when listening back to it, it reminded me of how Minnie Riperton used her upper register on her hit song `Lovin' You.' I thought how ironic that her song was called `Lovin' You' and my song is called, 'H.A.T.E.U.' - and both use that upper `whistle register' as a major part of the melody. So it's sort of an homage to Minnie Riperton, a tribute to her since she has been so influential in my singing style."

On a tender note, the wistful "Candy Bling" beautifully evokes the blissful realm of young love ("Anklets, name plates that you gave to me/Sweet tarts, ring pops had that candy bling/And you were my world"), while "Inseparable" aches for a love that went wrong for reasons that seem impossible to comprehend. "More Than Just Friends" floats off into a fantasy of what a casual relationship might become ("Permanently paint me in your picture like Picasso/Love me down till I hit the top of my soprano!"). "Ribbon" and "The Impossible" swoon with happiness and thankfulness over redemptive love that has returned to make life rich again. "You did the impossible," Carey sings. "You rescued my love."

Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel ends with a spectacularly powerful gospel rendition of Foreigner's gorgeous ballad, "I Want to Know What Love Is." Carey's voice soars into the heavens as a soul-stirring choir makes it clear that the search for love is the closest that any human being ever gets to the divine.

Which brings us back to the angel of the album's title. "I had written a song called 'Imperfect,'" Carey says, "but it didn't make it onto the album. The lyrics of that song address the fact that the world puts so much pressure on us -- especially on women -- to be perfect and look a certain way, and that is impossible because nobody is perfect. Only God is perfect. I know I've tried to be a good person, but I am definitely no angel!"

"But after I put this album together and decided to name it Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel," she concludes, "I remembered that the Minnie Riperton album that contained 'Lovin' You' was called Perfect Angel. So I felt in so many ways that it was meant to be."

I flove I Want To Know What Love Is.
It's amazing.

chilln_chick2002 - August 28, 2009 06:54 PM (GMT)
Don't know what to think about the song. Needs a few more plays before a conclusive decision can be made.

Aidan - September 1, 2009 12:00 PM (GMT)
Charted at #56 in the UK this week, down to the remix alone. But apparently it's been cancelled here?! In the release schedule thread on here, it's been said that Amazon have taken down the pre-order for the single and it can't be seen elswhere?

Surely this is wrong? Though with the album having no firm release date and Radio 1 not playing it, perhaps it's been further delayed or just plain cancelled. Seems a bit silly to me as it's managed to chart now.

Omg "I wanna know what love is" is absolulty average in my own personal view - give it her due she starts the song well and does do the verse' justice..

But the chorus - it on a level only dogs could hear her... I mean she may as well not be singing at all.. its so high pitched she sounds awful. Totally ruins the rest of the song for me.

Overall it isn't too bad, but I prefer the original any day.
