Title: Sweet 7 - New Album / Released: 23rd November
Description: Discussion Thread
SpiritRiser - December 9, 2008 12:48 PM (GMT)
The Babes were on This Morning a little while ago and Phillip Schofeild said "And you start writing for the seventh album soon," and they replied "Yeah, in January".
Just letting you guys know. :P
triakel - December 9, 2008 01:01 PM (GMT)
Hm... That's great news, but I still think they should take things a bit slow.
Wow! - December 9, 2008 01:49 PM (GMT)
I think its great news. Maybe during January time is when they will be able to work with those top producers. It's looking likely that only 3 singles will be released from this current record.
rmssw - December 9, 2008 02:51 PM (GMT)
While I certainly like the idea of getting new Sugababes music every year, it's not going to do much for their success problems they're having right now. These rapid-fire album releasing are risking market saturation and the less successful each single and album is, the more desperate the next single and album is going to seem. I'm not going to say no to a new album next year because I'll take all of the new music they want to give, but personally, I would have preferred that they waited until 2010.
AmelleLover26m - December 9, 2008 03:37 PM (GMT)
I was under the impression the babes were going to take a break before they started work on anything new?
Seems like plans have changed, unless they take the break halfway through recording then go back to it - judging by the production time, thats another one coming our way October 2009 then. I agree with the above comment, 2010 would of been better.
Keisha Beats Me - December 9, 2008 03:45 PM (GMT)
I'm relieved we should be getting an album 7, but I hope they don't come back to 2010. It's worth them taking them taking their time to make a great record, an incredible comeback, rather than rushing out an album just to try and reverse falling sales only to have it crash and burn again.
AmelleLover26m - December 9, 2008 04:38 PM (GMT)
Obviously Island have learned absolutly nothing from the flop of C+S. It seems they are fully intent to watch the babes fail again.
Whatever plans they have for 2009 scrap them and take a break. There is just no point getting so ahead of themselves for it to all fall to peices again, and that WILL happen if they continue to rush things.
Sombody needs to stand up and have the courage to tell Island where to go at the moment cause getting eveything "out of the way" is not going to create the album they need to get themselves back in the public interest.

This Morning - Sugababes
Sugababes
Named the most successful all-female act of the 21st century in the UK, the Sugababes are still going strong with their sixth album ‘Catfights and Spotlights’.
The video for the girl's new single, ‘No Can Do,’ shows them riding on a motorbike and in a car, but the modes of transport are slightly different in that they are made of men.
Amelle says; "I got a bit flustered doing the video, it was easy to put your hands in the wrong place, when you were Re-adjusting your position!"
In an interview with BBC, the Sugababes announced they were already planning their seventh studio album. The girls want to work with Gnarls Barkley and already have plans to work with Timbaland.Keisha said: "The first ever Sugababes album was quite raw and we have always wanted to go back to that - to being a bit dirtier. We all love going to live gigs and kind of touch on it with this album and definitely know in the future what stuff we would like to be doing.”

I think they should take their time with this album.#
And they shouldn't release it too soon after C&S because then there will be no anticipation and excitment for it than if it was a comeback.
Hyller - December 9, 2008 10:23 PM (GMT)
they should release their new album around April\May of 2010

why they don't work with Xenomania again? that formula work before for them, so..
In Denial - December 9, 2008 11:06 PM (GMT)
I really hope they go back to Xenomania and Klas.

Having an album with tracks from Klas and Xenomania would be amazing.
But I don't want them to rush the next album and I want them to write on the songs together.
On the other side saying that are going to start in January doesn't necessarily mean that the new album will be released soon. Maybe they will spend much more time on finishing it.
AmelleLover26m - December 9, 2008 11:29 PM (GMT)
I would be all for a Xeno - babes reunion if Higgins changed his sound and got more with the times of music.
The babes need a more raw sound and his choices of chords and instruments are not doing it anymore on that level. He is a skilled musician, so I am sure he is fully capable of it.
charmed247 - December 10, 2008 12:34 AM (GMT)
You know, as much as I think Island has screwed them over during the years, I think that they may have learned from Catfights. Obviously they see that this project is pretty much dead. No Can Do will not be a massive hit. Girls was the biggest thing from this era, and look how well people like that.
If they are starting to write a new album in January, than that pretty much means no third single and no tour. And really, that is probably the best decision for them right now. Why would Island invest in a third single, when the second is doing terribly, and not even helping the album during the busiest time of year? They are losing money on this project and they want to drop it. It really isn't that surprising.
And if they don't release a third single or tour, and are just writing and recording for ten months, don't you think that would be enough time for people to miss them? People don't even really know that they have new stuff out now. So by starting in January as opposed to the summer, as they usually do, it actually is giving them more time to make a great record. I understand that everybody is concerned, but really? Come on. They have TEN months. That is plenty of time to make an amazing album. Look at Catfights, five weeks. And it was rushed.
You need to have a little faith, and be happy that they are going to be making a new album after the huge flop that they just released.
And by the way, I love Catfights. I think it is there most consistent album. But let's face it. Its a concept album that a lot of their fans may not have "gotten" At least they can say that they were able to make the album that they wanted to make.
SugaNET.info - December 10, 2008 06:50 AM (GMT)
I agree, they made their favourite album and the fans liked it .. now it's time to hit the charts again ALSO in Europe!
Taller In More Ways was also written in the early 2005 and it was a great album so they can do it! Three was released in the same year as the latest single of Angels With Dirty Faces .. people didn't care .. Three was amazing.
Look, if the babes are dropping C&S now than they could work on Record 7. After releasing 4 singles is a break needed.
But I think that the babes CAN make a 7th record for 2009, look ... they are full of energy.
blaketat - December 10, 2008 08:50 AM (GMT)
They should stay away from Xenomania.
I think they should find different producers, like they dounf Klas.

I agree. Xenomania are well past it. Catfights and Spotlights is, by far, the best album they have ever done. And I think to go back to Xenomania and the electro-poppy route would be a big mistake. Yes, I love it. About You Now is one of my fav songs of all time, but with this album they have proved what they can do. I really think that they should continue with the route they have taken musically but build on it. I deff think they should work with Klass again, and Steve Booker. Sound of Goodbye is genius and I'd like to see what else the Babes could make with him.
I really think that Klas has brought out the best in the Babes. Most of Catfights is pure amazing. I hope they do work with him, and I also do what this Timberland thing to come off. Yes, he's a bit repetitive now-a-days but I think that whatever he does with the girls would be fresh, exciting and just brilliant.
Only time will tell I suppose, but I dunno if I want it in 2009. As long as they are happy I am, but its like they said, they want people to miss the tour a bit so that its exciting when it eventually happens, but perhaps if they didnt release anything after a third single next year then that would be good as people would begin to say "Hey, where are the Sugababes?" And then when they come back. BAMN! It's like the good old days. Massive sales, number 1's ect ect.
I really don't understand why the album isnt picking up. No Can Do is brilliant. The British Public is mad... end of.
SUGA-QUO - December 10, 2008 01:44 PM (GMT)
I love the fact the Sugababes are committed and working very hard bringing out new material every year. Top bands in the 70s/80s did it. Why should a band/artist try and live off the success of an album by releasing every song like Rhianna has done and then announce they will do anotrher album in 2-3 years time
After listening to Catfights religously i have to say its got some of the babes best material. I love the vocals in You On A Good Day. Sugababes at their best B)
Cant wait for next October then :)
Natalie.x - December 10, 2008 06:54 PM (GMT)
It's good to hear that they are keen to start writing again.
But, like others have said, in a way I hope they don't come back with the next album until 2010. I'll have to wait then which will make me want it more, and I'm sure a lot of other people feel the same. :)

Heidi needs to dress younger. They look like office workers in that interview. Amelle's the only one consistenly looking fierce.
Keisha did say that they'll take the whole year writing, so hopefully that means they won't be back until 2010, but I predict September 2009 because they're so damn predictable these days.

Completely agree.
Anyways aren't they suppose to work with Ne-yo as well  :'( ? Can't stand that prick.

I really hope they do not work with Timbaland - than man's ego is bigger than his head and he is not the be and end all of sucess like he seems to think he is.
I just hope you are all correct about them starting early and finishing late - I do not want an album october 2009 - I would like it mid 2010, and no tour is not such a bad thing really, if we do not get one, cause they cannot really tour a flopped album so I do see the sense in that.
I very much doubt we will even get a third single, if we do it will be in the new year, feb time I predict - and I so hope it will be EHB like they wanted, it all rests on No Can Do really.

I agree April/May 2010 is the best idea, they definitely should wait a full year.
Wow! - December 13, 2008 06:00 PM (GMT)
There quite friendly with Ne-Yo and the Timbaland stuff has been going on for ages so its looking likely. I'm not that happy about them working with Ne-Yo too especially coz of his material hes done recently. It seems that he keeps the good stuff for himself and gives the leftovers away.....Has anyone else noticed that? :S

Let the 4th single be a huge Christmas ballad!
freakintheevening - January 13, 2009 05:33 AM (GMT)
I have to admit that I am really looking forward to a new album and am happy to forget that C&S ever existed. I have really tried with over 50 listens to the album and I just don’t like it. I can’t imagine playing it years after the fact like 3, AWDF, One Touch or Change. I agree that it won’t be too soon to release a new album as most people may think that that Girls and No Can Do may be a continuation of singles released off the Change album. When appealing to the masses and getting a number 1 single most people couldn’t give a toss about the timeframes between albums (the masses don’t get on sites like this and analyse every move that the group makes like us freaks do LOL) as long as the song is hot and we haven’t had a hot track from the babes in a while.
I personally would love a collaboration with William Orbit to create something like Spiral all over again. That is a sound that the babes haven’t put out to the general public and one which I think works extremely well for them. Collaborating with Timbaland or Ne- yo would only give them a sound that they wouldn’t be able to make their own as that sound is saturating the charts at the moment and wouldn’t grab you like it should.
I know we all have different ideas on what would be best for them but I am sure that what we all want is success for the babes and for them to keep making amazing records that w can all enjoy. I suppose it is just a scary time as we all know what happens to artists after a flop album or 2………

charmed247 - February 2, 2009 05:39 PM (GMT)
Wow I haven't been on here in ages. It seems like No Can Do just kinda came and went, like most of this era. It seems that most of the public has kinda forgotten about them already and they really have been gone for only a month.
I think if they really are working on a new album now, I think coming back in October would be fine. I miss them already, and they have ten months to work on new material. I don't think I could wait until next year for new stuff. That's too long. They just need that massive single to help sell the album.
And plus I really want them to release a single this year. If they do, then they can say that they have released a single every year for ten years.
2000 Overload, New Year
2001 Run For Cover, Soul Sound
2002 Freak Like Me, Round Round, Stronger/Angels With Dirty Faces
2003 Shape, Hole In The Head, Too Lost In You
2004 In The Middle, Caught In A Moment
2005 Push The Button, Ugly
2006 Red Dress, Follow Me Home, Easy
2007 Walk This Way, About You Now, Change
2008 Denial, Girls, No Can Do
2009 ?
I just think it would be cool to have released something each year for ten years straight.
AmelleLover26m - February 2, 2009 06:10 PM (GMT)
I agree, although personally I feel october 2009 is too early really. The pubic need to miss them, and we need a bigger gap than 12 months. After the flop of C+S era it does seem Island hit the panic button cause of the loss of revenue so sent them to work on a new album recoup losses.
I do know if the album was 2010 then it would be a killer of a wait, but that has more positives then negatives. The public are lilkley to think "where are the Sugababes?" in over a year, rather than see a new album on the shelves so soon again and resent buying it.
Promotion-wise it needs to kick everything they have done previously, this next comback needs to beat AYN but it it certainly not beyond them. I am just a bit worried Island have pushed them into releasing october again to fill their own needs, not what the babes wanted to do.
krajol - February 2, 2009 07:46 PM (GMT)
I think that they are gonna release something new this year. Sugababes are hard-working. Besides the label will surely want babes to have new material before Chrostmas as then album sales are so much bigger.
charmed247 - February 3, 2009 12:13 AM (GMT)
I can understand having them wait until 2010 but also, it could also be like oh the sugababes? They are still around?
And they could be seen as the new kids on the block by that time. What with girls aloud riding higher than ever before and the Saturdays increasing their popularity with each move they make. I'm just saying that the longer they wait, they may not be as welcome.
But I don't know. All of this is speculative of course.
I hope there is room for all three girl bands to have success, at the same time
Keisha Beats Me - February 3, 2009 12:41 AM (GMT)
You can't predict success though, who would've thought the Saturdays would do so well? Plus if you compare About You Now being the highest selling single they've had and a year later they came back and flopped like they did. Who would've thought that?
It all works in mysterious ways. So as long as the material is good, it doesn't matter when they come back. They need to take a break anyway, even if it is just for themselves. I just don't think there's a connection there, and they need a better image for a start. Less mumsy, more cool.
charmed247 - February 3, 2009 03:26 AM (GMT)
You're completely right. Let's just hope that whenever they do come back, its bigger and better than ever.
babes aloud - February 3, 2009 12:43 PM (GMT)
i would really love if the lead single was released for a christmas number 1
every year their second single is in this time released, + all of the new tv winners are releasing thier offerings while the second single doesn't stand a chance.
GA may have realised this + they released The Loving Kind in january, their first ever january release. this may be because they didnt want to compete.
Maybe if No Can Do was released last month it would have been top ten
The lead single would have all of the hype anticipation + maybe a new b-side to help the sales along.
SpiritRiser - March 26, 2009 04:39 PM (GMT)
So, the Babes started work on the album this week. Excited much? :D I cannot wait. I'm already missing them like crazy!

@jarktown RedOne hmmm maybe we will be in a few weeks ;-) Or maybe not lol

Ha ha :P
She is good at doing that aint she?
Still it's good news, and it keeps us all on our toes and looking out for more news :D
