Well, I was thinking about it, Pete. But I guess I could do some programming and in addition work as a freelancer making graphics, but I am not sure yet. Maybe your idea is also good, I should think about it, too :)
Anyway I have already earned a bit money thanks to making graphics and html sites. Not too much but always it's a something for me and I have a bit experience :) I wish I was really good at graphics as I love doing it and doing it professionally and having money for it would be really amazing :)

The more you practice = the better you get = the more experience you gain = the more chance you have of impressing the right people.
If you really want to do it proffesional it all depends on what path you follow. You say you like HTML PHP script sites, so you can always keep designing them and make a portfolio of your finished images.
On the actual code size, the most basic would be:

But the above is C/C++ - most graphics are created within a pre-made GUI like Direct X or OpenGL, but saying that you still have to learn how to intergrate what you have done into the GUI. If you are able to create your own pixel ( sprites ) you have full control over the size, name, colour and width and dimensions. Most major ARCI's draw the simplist graphics. Paint is just one script running of the Windows engine.
