The older sister of Sugababe Amelle Berrabah yesterday admitted stealing cash and two store cars from patients at the hospital where she worked as a healthcare assistant. Zakiya Berrabah, 35, used the House of Fraser cards to buy clothes and other goods worth £3,220. She admitted theft and obtaining property by deception and asked for 20 other offences to be considered. Berrabah, who worked through an agency at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford, appeared at the city's Crown Court in a smart black skirt and jacket and white blouse. She was bailed to be sentenced next month. Berrabah, who sister, 24, is a big success in the sex pop trio, was said to suffer panic attacks.

I wish the media would get the facts right before spreading bull about people. Its hard to know what to beleive.

I remember when the 'story' surfaced last year and I was really shocked as it's such a discusting thing to do. But, it's nothing to do with my love for Amelle. It's none of our business what her family do either.

There is a source laying around that states Zakiya was sentenced to three years "Supervision". - Just so we can all be rest assured this is all over with now.

I will not post it, or a link to it, it is bad enough the media have to be so nosey in the first place, and I feel Amelle doesnt want it made public as much as Zakiya does.

Zakiya Berrabah stole more than £5,000 from hospital patients

The sister of Sugababes singer Amelle Berrabah stole thousands of pounds from hospital patients, a court heard yesterday.

Zakiya Berrabah, a 35-year-old nurse, took cash, bank cards and store cards and spent some £5,000 on clothes, shoes and other items.

She claimed that 'little men' in her head told her to do it. Yesterday she was spared a jail sentence after the court heard that she is on medication for bipolar disorder and episodes of mania.


Berrabah, of Aldershot, was working as an agency nurse at the Royal Surrey County hospital in Guildford when she targeted patients and their visitors, as well as another nurse.


At Guildford Crown Court she admitted three counts of theft, and two of obtaining property by deception. She was given a three-year community order with a supervision requirement.


During the hearing, Berrabeh claimed she was having a panic attack. She collapsed in the dock and begged for a glass of water, holding up the hearing by 10 minutes while she regained her composure.


Brian Stork, for the prosecution, told how she stole money and a House of Fraser store card from hospital patient Gillian Thompson before going shopping.

Then, in November 2006, she stole £100 and 83 U.S. dollars from Dianne Gore, whose husband was being treated at the hospital.


Later that day, she stole another House of Fraser store card from a colleague.

In her defence, Louise D'Arcy described how her client was mentally unstable at the time of the offences.

'It's not who it is she takes money from, it's the fantasy of spending it. She has told doctors about the 'little people in the box' talking in her head', she said.

Judge Peter Moss ruled out prison because of the defendant's state of mind but said he could 'hardly imagine more serious versions of stealing.'

'You were employed in a hospital and abused that position of trust. Not only did you steal from nurses, but also patients,' he said.

'In any other circumstances, you would be given an immediate custodial sentence. You are a lady who is suffering, aged 35 years, with a severe mental disorder - you have been treated as an in-patient who is diagnosed withe bi-polar disorder and you are very clearly unwell.

Her younger sister, Amelle, 24, - the newest member of the Sugababes - has also allegedly been found on the wrong side of the law.

In April 2007 the singer spent the night in a police station after being arrested for an assault on an 18-year-old on a dancefloor at Bar Med in Guildford, Surrey.

She was also arrested in January this year on suspicion of smashing up a car in her home town of Aldershot but later released without charge.

What the hell is wrong with her?

I feel sorry for amelle she is great at singing and her sis gets in trouble.

Whatever issues any of the babes family are having, has nothing to do with us or the media.

Why the think its great fun to print somthing so personal is beyond me. It has nothing to do with Amelle, and it has nothing to do with them either.

In the future I hope they keep their noses out of other peoples business when it doesnt concern them.

Pete - I can understand your frustration with the media, especially, considering that the thrive on attacking Amelle. However, her sister was in the wrong stealing from patiences that need help.
