Title: Keisha on MySpace - about MySpace
Description: Does myspace ruin relationships?

SugaNET - June 26, 2008 01:47 AM (GMT)
After several months of being a part of MySpace community Keisha decided to post her first messege on a blog:

Does myspace ruin relationships?

QUOTE
Hey everyone, ive been on myspace for a while now and i never really had anything that i thought was worth having a group conversation about until now…..
I will have a new blog posted every week (Hopefully) so please give me your opinions on them  LETS GET STARTED!!!!!!!!

When i first caught the myspace bug i understood that you had to make your page look dope, choose your song, let people know about your self and except or deny requests from strangers…. I was then told that i could feature stuff like videos, pictures and most importantly my close friends and family on my page.
At the time i thought great! I was single so the first names that came into my head was my best friends Zayne and Naz…. so i put them in that order and all my other friends after that. A little later, naz brought it to my attention that she wanted to be “number one” and mentioned that she had known me for at least 8 years before zayne so i swapped them round. LOL

A while later i met my boyfriend and he also had a myspace aswell! I checked it out (being nosey) and noticed he had his brother second, his best friend first……then…. at number one i saw a girl…..HIS EX GIRLFRIEND. I cant lie it did get me thinking….BUT
Being that it was all knew between us and im not a stressy chick i never asked questions. As we grew and got close, i did notice that one day she had gone out of his top friends. Was it that he was now in love and i was the new number “ONE” in his life?????? What if he moved me, would i become number two in his life? They had broken up way before we got together so why not keep her on????? Was this now an extension of how he felt for me?. Its crazy what myspace does LOL

Naz ended up being in a relationship too and gave me the OK to put my boyfriend first and she did the same with her page. Was i now second to her new love? Would this effect the friendship?……Here’s the answer…..

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Although i know there are some sneaky people on here that lie and cheat :-p I dont think that myspace kills relationships. Your man or women are either faithful or not faithful…. Your best friend will either be your girl/boy for life no matter what or they wont be.

Myspace to me reveals the truth about the unseen………What do you think?

Wo! Thats a big blog just on top friends and shiz haha. Its true though, you can tell by people's top friends if they think about you or value you. (i think the whole number 1, number 2 shiz is bullshit and childish. Who actually cares where you are!)
There's top friends everywhere e.g. myspace, facebook, bebo etc.
But having said that, i find the top friends thing too much sometimes, i do get people saying why haven't you added me there etc.
If you have too many friends and family. My advice is DON'T have top friends.

Top friends isnt what you think it is.

Top friends is the people you vist most via myspace. It doesnt matter about the the fondness you have for these people. Your best friend could not be in your top friend list, but that doesnt mean you have any less respct for them.

The top friends is calculated on how many hits each myspace account gets. If, the computer calculated and moved your top friends around by how many clicks each one got, I can gaurntee everyone who had a myspace account, their top friend list would change dramatically.

As account gets older, the log moves down and the push_back() of myspace deletes the primary addictivness of a certain account.

Top friends keeps track of how many hits certain accounts have.

People like Keisha and a few others use top friends for what they beleive it means, which is a collection of who the "like" the most, when in fact all it is, is a hit collector system for myspace.

Yes, good point.
There is a option that says that you can keep it Random by each visit

* I changed Top Friends yesterday, I had the option Random and Keisha was always on number 4,5 or 6 ... so that means that she is visiting my myspace?

Its done via a bubble sort algorithm.

So when a site gets a hit, it moves it above the others if the number is primary to the others.

Any account with a negative value could be considered as important and the program will shift it and move it above say #1. But the member has primary control. not the program. If a myspace account is left dead and unused, it will eventually drop off the scale, much like posts do in forums.

Awww yay, I'm glad Keish has decided to post blogs weekly, I'll be looking forward to them :]

Did any of you post comments? I posted this:

Keish, you're my number 1 friend too! But my friends have never even questioned it, it just shows some people can be affected about their placement in your top friends and some people aren't bothered at all.

You shouldn't worry about it babe, you know that your b.f will always love you, and hey, at least your his number 1 friend now ;)

Looking forward to seeing more of your blogs =]

x

If anyone complains about their position in my top friends, I take them out completely for being a baby.

SugaFran - June 26, 2008 07:04 PM (GMT)

Its nice that she will blog regularly to hear what she has to write.That is a rather long blog on top friends lol.My own personal opinion on is that real friends should know that your already a top friend without having to whinge about it being on the internet.

Erm not really :blink:

YOU decide how to arrange your top friends. There is no such system on myspace that logs every user that visits your page. The only thing it does is count the page visits. Where do you get this stuff???

LOL at you two, how is that funny? No need to be mean about it..

*rolls eyes*

AmelleLover26m - June 26, 2008 07:49 PM (GMT)
Thats fine, im just saying what I know. You dont have to beleive me and I am not forcing anyone too.

Alexis - June 26, 2008 07:58 PM (GMT)
But whatever you know is wrong.
You edit your top friends and you can put anyone anywhere you like.
It's not based on how many hits or anything like that, you're in complete control.

AmelleLover26m - June 26, 2008 08:13 PM (GMT)
Ok fair enough, maybe things have changed since I studied account processing applications. When I was on the third year of my course, we studied how messaging and friends accounts are created, and I was taught that the computer programs sorts the list by hits.

Il explain what I mean here. This is part of the program I wrote for a lab assignment

CODE
std::string getMessage() const
{
  return *pMessage;
}

char checkUpdateAndPosition( *pMessage, const int SIZE )
{
  /*this array holds each message sent*/
  std::string messages[ SIZE ] = { "" };

  while ( *pMessage != '\0' )
  {
     if ( *pMessage = islower ( *pMessage );
     *pMessage = topupper ( *pMessage );
     pMessage++; /*go to next message*/
  }

  int i, j;

  /*now we have the location and case - we can sort them via hit*/
  for ( i = 0; i < SIZE + 1; i++ )
  {
     for ( j = 0; j < SIZE + 1; j++ )
     {
        if ( messages[ i + 1 ] > messages[ j + 1 ] )
        {
           int temp = messages[ i ];
           messages[ i ] = messages[ j ];
        }
     }
  }

  if ( !messages )
  {
     char *error[] = "No accounts to swap!";
     return *error;
  }
}

I appoligise if what I was taught was incorrect on this occasion.

Alexis - June 26, 2008 08:32 PM (GMT)
You don't need to apologise for it.
Just try and at least verify things before you state them as fact.
People believe what you say, because you come across as this uber intelligent person.
It's misleading to let them believe statements that aren't true.

kal1ch - June 26, 2008 08:35 PM (GMT)
Yeah, you shouldn't apologize for what you know. It's just not like that on myspace. Didn't you have an account there? You should know lol ;)

Rich - June 27, 2008 03:29 PM (GMT)
They're right, Pete... you choose your top friends. The thing you were taught is true but unrelated to the top friends feature.

That's true, Pete. It used to be that the people that appeared first on your friends list were the eight people who'd had their account for the longest amount of time but you can completely rearrange them yourself now and choose how many people you have. Example, I have 12 'top friends', #1 being my boyfriend, #2 being my sister, then two of my closest friends, then 7 other friends in no particular order, then the MySpace of McFly's official forum because I'm in charge of the forum.

I remember when I moved my boyfriend to the #1 spot above my sister and best friend. I felt guilty but they didn't care! Keisha's right, it doesn't change anything.
