Sugababes rock CIA

SUGABABES certainly pushed the button at Cardiff International Area last night.
I was dragged along by my 13-year old daughter Gemma and ended up gazing at three stunning women strutting their stuff – I’m told they sing as well you know!
For all I knew about the individual Sugababes – apart from a couple of catchy tunes – it could have been Girls Aloud in front of me and it wouldn’t have registered, an admission which brought a hard stare from a very excited teenager.
But from the concerts I’ve been forced to attend with the kids over the years this was one of the better ones. The three girls had plenty of energy, lots of fun and there was a real party atmosphere in the room.
It’s that sense of fun, combined with their street-savvy pop sensibility, that has propelled Sugababes to three triple-platinum-selling albums and four number-one singles, making them the most successful girl band of recent times, above even Girls Aloud.
The three-piece might have had more character changes than Dallas but the current ‘Babes (Heidi, Keisha and Amelle) entertained for around 80 minutes.
Unusually, most of their costume changes were done on stage by their dancers, which was an inventive touch.
Sugababes’ current album Change is their fastest-selling to date, a feel-good album typified by its lead single About You Now, and my daughter doesn’t yet own it.
Judging by how much she enjoyed this concert, it looks like dad will be shelling out again.

“Sugababes have lasted the distance because they can adapt and that's the secret of keeping on top. While they are producing decent music I will keep going to watch them.”
Linda Butler, 14, of Rhiwbina, Cardiff
“I loved every moment of it. I've been waiting weeks to see them and they didn’t disappoint. I like the dance routines and costumes.”
Gemma Bloom, 13, of Thornhill, Cardiff
