Well recording new songs is a first step into a new record deal and a sophomore album. So I'm glad that Mutya is busy.
kal1ch - April 21, 2008 06:29 PM (GMT)
Someone on Popjustice said she probably wants to record the whole album before approaching a label. Wise move imo

I also think that this is a wise move, cause in this way she can show her possibly new record label what she has to offer before she actually signs.
kal1ch - April 21, 2008 08:08 PM (GMT)
And she actually chooses what songs will be on her album.

Ahh!
I'm loving her ideas, so if she does succeed, the album will be OFFICIALLY her's (to an extent)
CLASSY!

that's great :) can't wait to hear new stuff
Keisha Beats Me - April 23, 2008 09:37 PM (GMT)
If she chooses what songs are on her album then how come half of her demos weren't on the Real Girl album? And she had to release Real Girl as her debut single, a song that was farmed out to her at the last minute? The record company was right in the end, Mutya wouldn't have even put Song 4 Mutya on the album. <_<
kal1ch - April 23, 2008 10:48 PM (GMT)
God you're a fool. <_<
THIS TIME she gets to choose what goes on her album!
When did the record company say Mutya wouldn't have put S4M on the album? Making up stuff much?
And how do you know Real Girl was 'farmed off' to her at the last minute? Real Girl was recorded and talked about waaay before the release of the album, a remix of the song was available in November 2006, which would mean it was recorded even earlier.
Check your sources ;)

I hope Mutya goes commercial this time instead of making music "she" likes, she shud make music everyone would like (more upbeat songs wud b cool)

I donīt agree with you there. She shouldnīt go commercial and not do her īthingī anymore. If she canīt do her thing, then why even bother releasing an album?
I mean, if you had the chance to make an album, would you go for commercial stuff that everyone puts out or make your own music, and create your own style?

I agree.
That senario can be placed on many things. If I was in a class and given a program to write. and told I could either make somthing up, define it, debug and release it using all my inititive, or copy sombody else's idea just for the sake of it fitting in with the usual market, I would easily chose the former.
Back on topic, having your own ideas and designs is vital. It doesnt matter what you do, be it music, creative arts, computing, or even dancing; everyone has ideas of what to do, and you need freedom and time to express these ideas. You could be sat a block of gold of an idea, and never know it.

Good point kal

I miss Mutya. She needs to get on some mix-tapes because I just curious as to what sort of music direction she is going for.
Real Girl in my opinion didn't sound like an album that Mutya would EVER release. It was so watered down to the point that she had no creativity on it. And thats a shame because Million Different Miles was amazing (which she produced :D) - I was expecting that sort of direction.
The label was definately trying to draw in the 'older' people which back fired. Now hrray up Mutya and make some amazing stuff.
LittleSugababe - April 25, 2008 02:07 PM (GMT)
But if she doesn't go commercial, her new label will just drop her again <_<
Besides, she's had the chance to do "her stuff" in the first album, so she needs to expand her music genre to a wider audience... I mean, people who arent really hardcore fans won't really like songs like "Wonderful", "Just A Little Bit", and "My Song".. I mean those were amazing tracks but they don't really appeal to most people. I think she should do more songs like "Not Your Baby" and delve into her edgy grunge side a little more and record songs with attitude and bitchiness (which worked real well in Angels With Dirty Faces)
kal1ch - April 25, 2008 08:12 PM (GMT)
God get some brains!
"Her stuff" is stuff like Addiction, edgier r&b/urban tracks!
And look at Shiv - her sound isn't commercial but she got a label. There's a place for everyone out there ;)

Again soo right!
Robert - April 25, 2008 09:45 PM (GMT)
There is a place for everyone out there, but at the end of the day, labels want to make money, and Mutya deserves to be a massive success anyway. I think if she goes along with material like Heat and Addiction she'll be a big hit with album #2.
AmelleLover26m - April 25, 2008 09:53 PM (GMT)
I dont think labels have a clue what a target audience is somtimes. I agree they are good at that they know and operate well as a business. But like many have said before. its the artist who know what their fans like, so why not give them a bit of beathing space?
Instead of listening to the man upstairs who makes all the choices, give the arrist, the person who has to promote and preform the songs, the chance for self-expression.
Look at Microsoft. How many versions of Windows XP did they need before they amended all the bugs? Had they listened to the comsumer, it would of sorted much sooner. Its the same sort of prinaple.
LittleSugababe - April 26, 2008 03:13 AM (GMT)
if "her stuff" was like Addiction (my fave Mutya track by far), how come she didnt record any more songs like that?
TBH, i think "her stuff" is more like Slow Jams..

oh and u say i shud look at Shiv 'cos she's not commercial and she's still got a label... but what good has it done her?
she didnt even sell a lot of records and im sure if u ask random ppl who Siobhan Donaghy is, they wudnt even kno her
AmelleLover26m - April 26, 2008 06:07 AM (GMT)
Siobhan and Mutya do totally different styles of music. Her Revolutioh In Me and Ghosts are excellent albums. The only reason they didnt do wel is because she had poor label who failed promote and expose her tallent, there is nothing at all wrong with her vocally.
Mutya really can sing, she proved it for years as a Sugababe and she can hack it solo, she just needs the appreciation from a decent management/label to give her the room to show it.
LittleSugababe - April 26, 2008 09:21 AM (GMT)
Of course there is nothing wrong with Siobhan's voice ! She's got one of the most beautiful vocals in the music industry! I was just saying that her particular style of music isn't something that people would consider "hot" at the moment which is a shame, I know, but that's just how it is

You're very wrong there. Mutya recorded many upbeat/urban tracks: Not A Love Song, Call Back Or Drop Dead, To The Limit, Heat, Darkside, If We're Ever Gonna Be (not that upbeat, but not a slow-jam either), just to name a few. She's also recorded tracks with other artists which aren't slow-jams: Give Back, Keep Your Head Up and She's Just A Remix.
I also remember when Mutya had just started gigging with the album, and someone asked if she would be performing Addiction, and she replied with 'I wish'. I think that tells you she wishes it was on the album, and the very fact that she put demos like To The Limit and Darkside on her MySpace page tell us that she liked these kind of tracks too.
I think 'her stuff' is very diverse, and although she loves a good old slow-jam, she certainly loves to do upbeat stuff too. And before you ask why none of this material got on Real Girl, you'll need to ask Island Records, because they're the ones who fucked it up.
krajol - April 26, 2008 10:16 AM (GMT)
I wish she put Darkside adn 2 The Limit on the album :(
chilln_chick2002 - April 26, 2008 11:21 PM (GMT)
I don't know how you can compare Mutya to Siobhan they have two totally different styles.
Mutya more urban; old school RnB, garage, bassline and hip hop.
Siobhan taste in music is all over the place; but her sound is unconvential pop.
You don't have to be commerial to be successful Lily Allen, Klaxons and MGMT spring to mind.
With the right team around Mutya would dominate the world (lol) without having to compromise what she stands for. Real Girl wasn't what Mutya wanted along with her fans.
As long as she makes quality music I will completely support her. But I am begging her not to make too many slow jams.
Did anyone see her two new tattoos: Princess (on her neck) and One In A Million (on her arm). The latter is huge and kind of ugly looking in my opinion. I wish she would stop its getting out of control.
kal1ch - April 27, 2008 04:05 AM (GMT)
I love both new tattoos. And she said the one on her neck will be her last so you can rest assured :P
AmelleLover26m - April 27, 2008 03:18 PM (GMT)
I dont think I could ever have a tatoo... the needles look so painful, I commend Muyta for her bravery :P
