Title: Getting the Douchenator Parts

gotlife - June 16, 2006 07:39 PM (GMT)
Hi, over the summer I am planning to make a new Douchenator. This will be my first time. I am having trouble knowing what the 3" to 1 1/4" reducer is, and the mal 1 1/4" couplers.
Could someone also help me with some helpful idea's, into making a succesfull douchenator. And could I get all the supplies in Lowe's, or Homedepot?
Thank You very much.

The 3" to 1 1/4" reducer is a PVC coupler that connects two different sizes of PVC, in this case a 3" section and a 1 1/4" section. That's a pretty big reduction, and most people step it down over two or three reducers, for example, a 3" to 2" reducer, and then a 2" to 1 1/4" reducer. The male threaded coupler is simply a PVC coupler, that is threaded on one side, so you can screw it into variour fittings, in this case, a metal ball valve. Make sure to use plenty of teflon tape around the threads to ensure a good seal.

Before making any PVC homemade, make sure you know how to properly prep and glue PVC. To prepare the pipe, clean it with a cloth, dry it, and lightly sand it (recomended). This will help the glue adhere better. After that, make sure to closely follow the instructions on the cans of glue and remember to use primer first always.

As far as availability is concerned, I find that Lowes has a better selection of pipe sizes and types than my local Homedepot, however the selection varies widely depending on area. Make sure not to forget local home supply/plumbing stores!

Good luck, and please update us.

Thanks for everything. Could you kindley show me a picture of the 3" to 1 1/4" reducer and male threaded coupler if it is possible. Thank YOu once again

I have a nother question. How could i use a coupler and fit it into a reducer?

They don't have a male 1 1/4" coupler, and i was wondering what would happen if i get a 2" coupler? Right now i'm just getting the items to get a douchenator. And i was wondering if a 2" would screw up the whole listings?

As long as you adjust the appropriate parts, it will be fine. Changing the size of the reducer[s] changes the size of the male adaptors and the ball valve. If they don't have 1 1/4", look for 1", 1 1/2" or 2", all good alternatives. Although 2" ball valves can be stiff, so make sure you buy one that someone else has tried turning. The newest looking ones on the shelf are always the stiffest.

As for the earlier question, most couplers cannot fit into reducers. However, a part called a "bushing" can fit into a reducer. You could have a 1 1/2" bushing, for example, that fits into a 1 1/2" to 3" reducer and bypass the need for PVC pipe in between!

I'm really nervous about gettin a wrong part, and just using up my money. Could someone show me some pictures of a 3" to 1 1/4" reducers, and a male 1 1/4" male couplers Please

I haven't got any on hand...if you user Google Images, you should be able to find those pictures. Or if you write them down exactly, a store worker should be able to help. Just remember it is 1 1/4" male adaptor, not coupler. A coupler and an adaptor are totally different fittings!

Don't worry, if you get the wrong part, you can simply return it for a refund or exchange.

Thanks for the major Tip. Right now i just want to confirm about the male adapter and how to fit it withthe reducer. Would somebody descirbe to me how they link togheter. Because the instruction that is wright below tells me that i should get a coupler instead of an adapter, and then fit it into the reducer.
"The Barrel:
First, saw the 3" PVC into a ~3 foot piece and a ~2 foot piece. Adjust these lengths to your own individual launcher and how long you want it to be. Take the 3 foot long PVC and attach one of the 3" to 1 1/4" reducers to one of the ends. Now take one of the 2 male couplers and fit it into the 1 1/4" part of the reducer. "

Could you give me a specific rule to follow under. I don't think this is much to clear for me to follow. Could you be so kind enough to tell me how to make the douchenator with the proper parts your told me. Thank YOu

^That should make it obvious. Actually, there are 3 reducers used there. They still get you from 1 1/4" to 3".

On the right side of the ball valve, there is the 1 1/4" reducer going up to 1 1/2". A piece of 1 1/2" PVC connects that reducer to the next one, which is 1 1/2" to 2". There is a piece of 2" PVC in that which you cannot see in the picture, but it is there. It connects to the last reducer, a 2" to 3" one. That then connects to the 3" PVC making up the air chamber. If you need to know how to connect these pieces, get a can of PVC Primer and a can of PVC Cement and read the instructions on the back.

I am considering making a Douchenator, but should I use a ball valve or a sprinkler valve? I still have to get the materials, so it is not much of a problem to buy different things than what was originally intended

Get a sprinkler valve if you can find one, and modify it. I don't know how, so read around.

I don't have much else to say, but here is an article on modifying a sprinkler valve.

I saw something that a guy did with a sprinkler valve, which was make it have an electric switch, and save the trouble of having to modify it, and just protect the wires well and all that stuff. See the image below (sorry if its a bit big)
