Well, summer is about to start (school ends next week) and I wasn't able to get my normal large amount to start off my summer projects. So now I have 6 dollars to my name and quite a few things I want to do. So, I have been looking around for ways to make money. I can't mow lawns around here (a professional company is doing them) and I can't get a job yet. I have been thinking about selling some of my stuff, but I can't do that all summer long, although I could probably make around $75. I can do chores, but it's always cleaning. It gets boring after a while. I am good at making things and am mostly good at simple programs.
So, any suggestions? Maybe something you do in the summer?
I really need the money. I can't fund all of my cool projects without it. ;)
I do yard/lawn work and am a counselor at a summer camp. I also may start tutoring a neighbor in Latin.
What you could do, is build up whatever you can and lock it in a bank CD for a month and get the ~4% yield on it. Longer wait times have better yields, but it can be hard waiting for that long.
Or you could buy a few shares of stock and cross your fingers that it goes up enough to sell them for a profit. However, I would suggest the former.
You can and should compete directly with the local lawn company. How do I know? I do compete directly with our local companies (all 5 or so of them). I charge less than half the price that they do and I do make quite a bit of money (over $60 this week for 3 - 4 hours of work).
The stock market is actually very easy to make money on. Since the world economy is constantly growing, if you invest in random conpanies all over the world, your portfolio will grow approximately 10% a year. My dad used this strategy and the $80,000 to $100,000 college money I started with around 14 years ago grew to $250,000.
EDIT: If you're old enough you could get a job at like a hardware store or something...and get discounts on stuff. I'm just gonna have to be happy with my current allowance(~$5 per week) until I'm 16 though.
