Title: 4100/WL
DX - May 3, 2006 09:33 PM (GMT)
Possibly the most odd idea I've ever had. Yesterday I was looking at the parts of my broken, unfixable CPS 4100 and then it hit me. What if I could have ITWL [inverted-T water launcher] tech hidden inside what looks like a CPS 4100! It would still have a 4100 case, tank, trigger, and pump. However, the hollow inside would contain a pc, ball valve, and barrel, and be capable of shooting giant streams long range. I would have the schrader valve attached in the back of the reservoir, or possibly in an even more discreet position, such as coming out of where the trigger should be.
The only real problem is the ball valve. A ball valve sticking out of a huge hole in the front of any gun is a dead giveaway that someone's been doing some special work on that gun. :ph43r: Trigger-like operation would allow me to fire it from a normal trigger in the normal position, a huge plus. However, with the space limitations, and shape of that area of the 4100, this would be very, very difficult and tedious.
If worst comes to worst, I would be fine with a ball valve in the front. But if it could be trigger-operated, use of this sidearm during special situations would be absolutely devestating, especially when enemies are expecting 8.5x, not 70+.

If you need to have a ball valve in front, just make it look severely broken and say that you were barely able to savage after it got dropped out a treehouse or something. Then people would think that it was just a broken gun that barely works.
Have you built an inverted T design yet?

If you're confident about your water launcher, then go ahead and "mod" this. Otherwise, as I think m15399 hinted, you should try the ITWL first. That would give everybody a simple design to follow (though it can't be that complicated anyway).
I have a CPS 4100 (my only CPS, actually) that I haven't even opened yet. I was thinking about the colossus mod, but I'm not too sure now because you have to saw off part of the plastic. However, I really want to open it now.
I don't like the CPS 4100: the reservoir is really small, and it will never be enough for an ITWL. However, the other problems, such as the low power, etc. won't be a problem in your ITWL version.
You can add a backpack to expand your reservoir; this will also allow you to disguise a Schrader valve pipe by pretending it's just the backpack reservoir hose. You can keep the actual Schrader valve in your backpack with your reservoir, and take off the backpack to pump. In addition, I suggest removing the pump parts but leaving the sliding piece as a disguise; then, you can add the metal ball valve where the pump was. You might even be able to open and close the valve by sliding the pump!
This is truly a crazy idea. If I hear positive test results, I will definitely perform this mod. My CPS 4100 doesn't really live up to its name anyway, and I could use some parts like the CPS bladder if possible.
Maybe you should call this an upgrade, not a mod or a homemade.

Ok, I phrased things badly. When I said it would still have a 4100 trigger, tank, pump, etc. I meant as decor and not actually as working parts of the launcher. They are there to cloak the real insides. Picture a 4100 with nothing but the casing and the reservoir. Now add a pump handle and a trigger, but the inside is still empty. Now put an inverted T, ball valve, and barrel inside. That is the design, with the placement of the ball valve the only variable. The inverted T portion will be 2" pipe and will fit inside the 4100 tank, the sides drilled to have it go through. If the top must be higher than the top of the tank, it will be painted black like the rest of the gun to help hide it.
Since I hate backpacks, the schrader valve will be placed near the bottom of the reservoir, and on the side facing the user, so enemies won't see it.
I would love to find a way to put the ball valve in the middle and have a link right to the trigger or pump area for trigger or pump opening/closing of the valve. Sadly, I am not good with designing things like that, nor have the materials/tools to do so. My parents are not that handy, so I have a most basic set of equipment and tools to work with.
I could just say the ball valve in the fron is a replacement for a broken trigger valve. Plus, I could make this a muti-shot gun by having a valve in front and one in the middle, but now I'm making things too complicated.
@m15399: I've used the inverted-T in one homemade and 2 of the water launchers that are in progress. To finish them, I need a working drill to make the schrader valve holes; mine recently broke.

You could use a string to pull a valve inside the PC casing. If you tied a string to a metal ball valve and let the string dangle through a hole in an inconspicuous place, you wouldn't have to put the valve out front.
You could also make your own valve with a trigger, but that's more work.

m15399's trigger idea is okay, but it's still sloppy. String is not the most durable of substances, and even duct tape cord (my reinvention, at least) is going to be sloppy. However, the CPS 4100 already has a working trigger to valve system, so you could try utilizing that.
Getting the ball valve trigger to stick out through the pump shaft shouldn't be that hard; my suggestion of using the pump handle as the trigger was getting too fancy. It should be easy to cut a hole or use the track hole to allow for a long trigger level to poke through. If you can get the ball valve to be right over the pump, then IMO, that's the best thing to do. I'll open my own CPS 4100 up and see if anything else comes to mind.
