Title: CPS 2000 Legend

Okay, we just recently recruted a member who has the mark 1 CPS 2000 and had an interesting story to tell me. I asked him if he had any guns. Not knowing anything of the fabled story about the kid who shot his eye out with the CPS 2000, he told me about his something or other 2000 super soaker. He said he was out playing with it a while back. He shot it at a girls face from, what he said, was 20 feet away in the face. She went blind and had to go to the hospital. She eventually got her eye site back shortly after.

Even if the CPS 2000 super soaker could not shoot someone eye out, it could do some serious damage to the eyes. Let that be a lesson to everyone.

Personaly I think that same damage could have been done with a hose or any 20X stream from that distance. Getting hit in the eyes with any foreign object can result in damaged vision.

On Jay Leno some teen actress from some show(I think it was the OC or something) mentioned that she got hit by a 2005 Super soaker and start crying for loosing her eye sight temporarly on a birthday party.

Thats an interesting story, and undoubtedly true.

It brings up a good point. It really doesn't take much for a human eye to lose sight temporarily. Simply pushing at your eyelid with a finger will make you vision go dim for a second or two. Even a average strength soaker shot at the face will pose some sort of danger. If you think about it, a stream of water probably has more mass than a standard pellet from a pellet gun. Water is pretty heavy. Also debris in the water can cause that kind of temporary blindess. I know that when I first shot my CPS 1000, the stream was soapy.

Ive only seen this exact same post at at least two other websites related to super soakers.
I have also heard about the legend that a kid blew his eye out with his CPS 2000.
If the CPS 2000 really had that much power, why would they let younger children play with them?

Especially here, we encourage the free-flow of information and ideas between forums. I often post the same exact topic at at least 2 of the 3 largest forums, if not all of them.

Anything can take an eye out. Air even. It could have been a CPS 1500, or a 2100, or even a dollar store pistol. But the most enduring rumors are older ones, and this was with an older soaker, whose power was unmatched back then and the whole concept of CPS new.

The second part of the legend is the part that says they discontinued the CPS 2000 for that reason, so little kids couldnt blow their eyes out. Id personally be surprised to see a little kid even manage a CPS 2000. At my (younger) sisters birthday party one kid had a CPS 2500 It was kind of wierd, he couldnt pump (at all) and asked me to do it for him.

Eye damage from 20ft away? Whoever got hit would have to be directly looking at the stream and the stream would have to have stayed together quite well for that to happen. I guess I'm rather surprised because everytime I've fired a water gun (even though the 2000 I've used is an mk2) or hose, the stream breaks up quickly, and to cause any eye damage, the target would've been very close up and would dodge to avoid getting hit in the face anyway. (I do that myself) I think it's just a matter of making sure people in a fight are aware of what's going on, and to never shoot at one without a water weapon.
