White Noise
Rating:(1-10) 8.5
I just saw this with my friend, and am seeing it again with my girlfriend soon.
White Noise is a very good scary movie, in my opinion. In my mind there is a difference between a horror movie and a scary movie. White Noise combines the heart pounding thrills and chills of a horror movie with the never ending suspense and suprise of a mystery genre oriented movie.
Basic Plot Summary:
The main character is John Rivers, a succesful architect, with a son, and a beautiful second wife. One day his wife mysteriously dissappears. John does not want to accept the fact that she is dead, and continues to hope that she is alive. One day, he notices a man following him. When he confronts the man, the man identifies himself as Raymond, and tells Rivers that he has been getting messages from the dead from Rivers wife. Rivers refuses to believe it, but when police find his wife's body days later he decides to confront Raymond for his help. Raymond informs him that he has contacted Anna (his wife) through E.V.P. or electronic voice phenomena. Basically, Raymond can hear dead people through radios, see them in tv static, and record them. Thus the title White Noise, which basically means indiscernible (sp?) noise like static from your radio. So John is able to talk to Anna. However he keeps getting these messages from her, and three ghostly figures appear to be stalking him. When Raymond is found dead, John decides to take matters into his own hands by attempting to contact the dead by himself. The dead however aren't as friendly as they had appeared earlier. John keeps getting disturbing images, that lead him to bizarre deaths. He is convinced that Anna is trying to lead him to murders, and this will eventually lead to the major supernatural horrorifying ending.
All in all a good movie, and definently worth seeing if you don't mind scary movies.
White Noise is rated PG-13 for violence, disturbing images, and language.

Monty Python and The Holy Grail
R
This movie, IMO, is the funniest movie ever created. It is Monty Python at their comedic best, and is their best film again IMO. the entire plot (or lack thereof) focuses on a parody of King arthur's quest for the Holy Grail. this is a great movie, and sould definently be watched if you like funny movies.

This isn't a new movie, but today I watched Battle Royale, it is in japanese with subtitles, but basically the Japanese government get so stressed about the behaviour of school children (stabbing teachers, constant truancy et cetera) that the pass Act BR. Basically a random class (of around 50) is chosen every once in a while to go on an Island until only one remains, that person lives, but generally becomes a psychopathic killer (obviously). Anyway, this Battle Royale is covered live on TV and everyone is given a weapon and some basic kit. The weapons range from semi auto shotguns to dustbin lids (some poor sod even got a bottle of water as a weapon).
This isn't a movie for the faint-hearted, however it isn't all the blood that's so scary, it's the whole idea. The fear comes from the cheerfulness in the film, the grinning video instuctor who tells the kids what's happening to them. And the films ending is a masterpiece, it scared the Sh*t into me. I won't spoil it for anyone who wants to watch it.
The way these poor kids are just left to die is really horrible, the way the person making them kill each other sits in his office eating cookies while he reads out the lists of the dead on the loudspeakers. And the way he goes out into the island and walks up to a kid who is crying over the dead body of a friend and then gives her his umbrella and says he doesn't want her catching a cold.

Run Away Jury:
Great movie about swinging the jury in a gun case. One of the jurors has the power to sway everyone in the jury to vote his way, and then blackmails the layers to pay him 10 milion dollars to sway the jury their way. In the end you learn that this guy is not all he's cracked up to be.
I found this movie to be very interesting an edge of your seater. The ending you were like, WOAH I didn't see that coming! Anyway I give this movie a 9/10. Very enjoyable.

Constantine:
Saw this on Sunday. Changing the lyout a bit on my top ten favorite movies list! This movie was awesome. Incredible. Really good. The basic plot is a bit hard to follow, but it doesn't take two trips to figure it out (you might want to take two trips anyway). Basically, this exorcist named John Constantine is struggling with an alcohol problem and the realization that he is destined for hell. However, that all chnaged when the son of the devil inhabits a mexican treasure hunter who has found the Spear of Destiny, or the spear that killed Jesus Christ. The son of the devil can only come into this worl through a pyshic, who happens to be a detective (can't remember the name), any way, she (the detective) comes to Constantine, unaware of her physic ability. She has come to ask him to help her to discover the reason why her twin committed suicide not long ago. When Constantine agrees to help her, he finds out that she is the pyshic who the devil is trying to come through. The entire thing is a big good vs. evil struggle, and for many people this movie may be something they may not want to see simply because of the content. I am a devout Catholic, however I appreciated the different aspect of good vs. evil in this movie, and found the overall plot extremely interesting. The special efects were awesome too!
Constantine is rated R for language and demonic images.

I've seen a couple movies lately.
One was the Ring two which I thought was pretty good. The scare effect wasn't as great, but it was really good for a sequel. The story is that the family moves to a small town. When they get there something terrible happens involving the tape. Rachael takes the tape and burns it. Samara wants revenge and posesses rachaels son. Anyway, I wont spoil the ending. You have to watch it yourself. Very good movie for a sequel. 8/10
The other movie I watched was Robots. Yes, childish, but hey it was good. Basically theres a family of robots which have a baby robot who's called Rodney. Rodney is inspired to become a robot and see this mystical kind of robot who lives in robot city who takes inventions from other people. But somthing goes horribly wrong and the greatest robot in the world goes missing. There's a plot to melt down all the robots in the city, and Rodney is faced to save all the robots. Good movie 9/10

I saw The Amityville Horror. I thought it was pretty good. I found the funniest part was the babysitter. First off, damn she was hot. Secondly, it was so funny when she was using the bong in the bathroom. Thirdly, she asks the kid if he frenches. He's like 12 and shes like 18. Wow, what a slut. :P Then she goes into the closet and the little girl Jody is there and takes her finger and puts it into the bullet hole in her head. Oh my god that was hillarious.
But yeah it had it's scary moments. My girl friend started to cry at the end. This one part, one of the little kids is in the bathroom looking in the mirror and looks to the side and theres like this bloody person or something. And when Mr. Lutz finds the torcher chamber in the basement, its pretty freaking messed up. The movie stuck true to the book pretty well. And the phone call in the begining is the actual transcript from the 911 call from when the murder happened. Over all it was very well done. I want to make a trip to Amityville now. :P I give The Amityville Horror a 9/10.

I just watched Gettysburg for the millionth time. I am plain addicted to this movie. The battle scenes are probably THE best in any Civil War movie ever made. Period. Plus, unlike other war movies, this one was filmed on the actual battlefield, no sets at all.
If you are obsessed with older Military History like I am, you will also enjoy:
Helen of Troy
Glory
Cold Mountain
Gladiator
Spartacus
I draw much of my water war tactics from the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War. Gettysburg has given me some new ideas for next season.

I liked Gettysburg too. Gods and Generals wasn't as bad as most people say it was (IMO). I saw Gladiator and loved it. A really good war movie however is *gasp* BRIDGE OVER THE RIVER KWAI. That movie is great.
LIGHT ANNIHILATOR - December 13, 2005 09:35 PM (GMT)
The best movie I have seen this year so far is the Coach Carter. Anyone who play's basketball, or any sport for that matter should see this movie. There's lot's to learn from it.
These also look good:
Doom
Syriana
Jarhead

Dawn of the Dead scared the Sh*t out of me. Usually I get scared by a movie during the movie itself, if it's scary at all. This movie is just crazy. First time I saw it, I was scared for months. Watching it again it wasn't as scary, but sure hell brought back some memories. It's deffinately one of the better Zombie movies I have seen. Good acting, and pretty good cosmetics too. I'd say its an 8 out of 10.

I got Gods and Generals for Christmas, so:

I thought it was great, but when some call it a "prequel to Gettysburg" I know why. For some reason, the battle scenes and social scenes lack the realism of Gettysburg. It is hard to describe, but compared side by side, there's something in Gettysburg not present in Gods and Generals. Same director, same cast, totally different movies.

V for Vendetta is a wicked movie. In a time where directors try too hard to make a movie good, V for Vendetta takes the pie (pies better than cake). Written and directed by the Wachowski brothers who also wrote and directed The Matrix series, this movie has a plot unlike any other. The acting is superb and the action/fighting scenes are amazing. Everyone living in this world should go see V for Vendetta!

Wow. You're going to endorse that movie? I'd discuss why I am very opposed to it, but some of the things I'd be talking about I don't think are allowed on this forum (i.e. religion, politics, and so on). So I'll just say I am opposed to it and find it very offensive. One thing I'll agree with, "the action/fighting scenes are amazing". But that's it.

V for Vendetta is a political thriller. It's supposed to be set up like that so it's got a decent storyline. And the reason why I'm giving it so much praise is because where I live it's the only movie that doesn't suck thats been out in theaters for a long time.
NiborDude - April 18, 2006 03:19 AM (GMT)
Has anyone here ever seen Donnie Darko? Great movie. I asked litteraly around 40-50 people today if they've seen it and only 1 person confirmed they saw it, but they weren't to insightful about it.
Plot Outline: A troubled teenager is plagued by visions of a large bunny rabbit that manipulates him to commit a series of crimes.
Yes I know, but believe me its good.

Stay Alive: A bunch of kids get a video game and somehow you die after you play. Sound familier?
It's supposed to be scary and... it's not. A few scenes at the begginning were scary, but it's not something to pay 6 bucks to see.
