Ok, I was talking about this in the general discussion forum. I'm interested to see how many people would participate in a game like I described there.

Here is a rough outline of how it would work:

Each user has a team
You will have 24 hours to email me your manouver.
When I recieve your manouver, I will reply with your current situation. E.g. "Team member 1, 2, and 3 heading North. You are about 1/3 up the battle field. No sign of the enemy. Team member 4 and 5 keeping look out at base. 3 enemies are spotted south-east. 1 carrys an XP 310, 1 carrys a Douchenator and a backpack of filled water balloons, and the last carrys a Max-D 4000."
Every user will recieve an email like this and will reply with their next move within 24 hours.
I will do some crazy random number/dice thing to determine what happens in battles and how successful manouvers are, then email back your current situation. I will only reply with the situation when I have recieved both emails.
When one user has won, everything will be posted (not decided how this will work).

Let me make one thing clear: I am not trying to compete with ZOCCOZ, steal people from his game, or anything of the sort.

If 8 or so of the 10 members here vote yes, I will most likely start a forum about it to discuss the rules etc. I want this to be a community project, not me running an RPG.

Would you be interested in playing this type of game? All you would have to do is to "fight" a battle each week or so. Depending on how good you are, they could last for a week or two, so make sure you are going to be willing to do this.

This is not a foolproof plan. If you don't agree with something above, but you still would like to do something of this nature, vote "yes". There will be much discussion before a permanent set of rules is established.

The reason I haven't posted this on iSoaker or SSC is because I want to test it with a small group to work the bugs out, then try a larger version with perhaps 2 battles going at the same time.

I think this would be fun, given that it would survive the test of time. Time has been brutal to everything in soaking. Forums, Newsletters, Webrings, RPGs, etc. have risen quickly and fallen just as quickly. It may take months to fully organize something, but one week is all that is necessary to kill it. So for me to throw my weight behind it, it has got to survive. I'm tired of seeing things fail. I would gladly participate and try to keep it going. I wouldn't turn down a water war, actual or virtual.

The emails should keep people going. Unless you stop checking your email, there's no way you can forget about it.

This sounds like a good Idea to me, though the dice idea may not take into account experience gained over the course of the battle (or it might, depending on how complicated the dice system is). It would be cool if someone made an rpg of this, though that would be really hard to code.

Ya, it would. :(

For the dice, I'm thinking something like
Manouver: Sneak behind team at 30 ft. distance.
Dice rule: Must role higher than total mobility rating. Each team member has stats, assigned at the beginning of a round with an RPG point system, e.g. You can add 5 points in any area to each player. The areas would be something like "mobility/stealth" "speed" "aim" etc.

I'm going to start a forum pretty soon where we can discuss rules.

I like the idea of rolling dice and getting success if the number is higher than the stat used to do the manuever. Of course, there are still problems and exceptions, like how "mobility" is often gifted to those with "speed" and vice versa, and "accuracy" often involves more luck than skill, etc. Although those problems could be ironed out.

The main problem is that if you have 5s in certain stats, the chance of success would be slim, and in real life it would increase dramatically. Perhaps success should be a roll lower than your ratings?

Oh, DRR!! I meant to say lower.

I have the forum running. Will post new thread ;)
