Title: New Goals for 2006
DX - January 14, 2006 06:05 PM (GMT)
Self explanatory, want to set any new goals for 2006? The above are mainly tech-related, but if there's something else you want to see become reality, by all means post that!

I would vote for the second and third, but I'm only allowed one vote. :P
I think that homemades are a good place to push, because many people are not able to get their hands on an old CPS gun. If homemades had prectical triggers, many more would start using them. If designs were improved to be more practical, many more would start using them. The more people we have using them, the more research is done, the more progress we make.
I'm sure I'm not the only one, but I don't exactly have access to older soakers. New members might become frustrated that they can't do half of the articles on any given super soaker website. As time goes on, access to those soakers becomes more and more limited, and new mods must be written to fit the current blasters. No matter what we do, we are still limited by what soakers are manufactured.
Anyone in the U.S. will be able to build a homemade. The parts are easily available in the U.S., and can be shipped outside the U.S. PVC is never going to go away, meaning we will never have to start over and redesign a mod to fit modern soaking standards. We will simply progress, and progress.
That said, I think we should push in the direction of homemades. An easy affordable solution for those without soakers. (I sound like a commercial...)

I voted other, we want all that and more! Lol always be optimistic!

I voted all of the above. I can't find anything on the list that wouldn't be nice to have accomplished, or anything that people wouldn't try to do.

I'm voting for hitting the 70ft mark. The homemade trigger has already been designed (I think); "further improve homemade stats and designs" should be a given anyway; mods for the 2006 soakers may (or may not) be a waste of time; "spread tech and make it mainstream" is too ambitious and unlikely to succeed as a goal in itself; and I don't really think new WBL designs are necessary - we already have the Douchenator, although a fully automatic WBL would be nice.
So for me, it's hitting the 70ft mark - and beyond. ;)

The polls forum has been moved into this one. Just letting you know to look in here instead.

Right now I would like to see mods and homemades easier and more user friendly to do. I have interest in them, but they seem a too monsterous/risky task. :(

Homemades have a bad reputation for being complex and/or expensive. However, not all homemades are difficult to make, and some are cheaper than buying a stock gun! And in the rare event of a mess-up, you can just saw out the piece and replace it.
The APR and CPR lines of homemades were dedicated to being cheap, simple, and user-friendly. Read up on them somewhere in the homemades forum.
Mods are really simple once you get the hang of it. We are eventually going to make our modding videos which will show the user how to preform them. You can't mess up if you can see it done right in front of you!

This kind of thing isn't anything to worry about. Modifications and especially homemade water guns get a very bad reputation for being difficult. What is more difficult as far as I am concerned is using a water gun that is lacking.
When I first got interested in modifications, I was told that the K-mod was the hardest modification around and only the most experienced could do it. Far from true! Loads of people have successfully performed a K-mod since I posted my first guide. I also was told that homemade water guns were extremely difficult to make, expensive, and especially dangerous. Every single one of those "facts" have been disproven. My latest homemade water gun is cheap for it's size and potential performance, and also was the easiest one to constuct yet. If Hasbro sold this water gun, it would go for probably over $150, despite the fact that the parts cost only $50 - $75.
What I find hard to believe is the fact that I am one of the few who could perform these modifications without a guide. You think you might have trouble? You have nothing to worry about. I did my first K-mod and check valve freeze from an email to Dirtjump9 and nothing else. My first homemade water gun made from PVC pipe was really based on a few pictures by Pepper and posts by others. If I made a mistake, I couldn't ask anyone for help. Even still, I made it through the modifications and homemade water guns, and even started a website on the subject (perhaps you heard of it? heh).
There is a reason why plumbing uses PVC pipe - ease of repair. Repair would be easy in most situations, especially if you designed your water gun to have certain parts removed in case of the worst. That is why I put several inches of pipe space in between each fitting and use threaded valves. If one part fails, I only have to replace one part.
The hardest thing I have done was the Collusus modification. To be honest with you, that is the hardest modification to perform with the least results. I suggest using larger latex rubber tubing to slide over the pressure chamber, but no one aside from myself has eased the process that way. As you can see, hard parts can be easy with a little creativity.
In short, don't worry about a thing!

I wish we could simplify the collosus mod to make it easier, but it's probably never going to happen.

If you read the sentences after those ones, you would see that's exactly what I did. ;)

I think we should make a shell-fed WBL propelled by a small amount of gunpowder or similar substance...
m15399 - January 28, 2006 07:45 PM (GMT)
You can have the shells blown out the front since it would need wadding, too. You could just make a magazine loaded with paper cups with water balloons in them. You would need to use a trigger system like Drenchenators nerf homemade's, and the magazine could be made like a nerf magazine, except much bigger.
I think we need to find a smaller projectile that carrys water. Sponge bullets are a possibility, but they wouldn't deliver a big enough splash

Well, we've hit our posting goal for December 2005. Yup, 8000 posts more than half a year late. Oh well. Good times will come and a little bit of patience goes a long way.
