Title: Need a Firewire Port Driver

DX - December 22, 2005 01:27 AM (GMT)
Well, a friend opened up my computer and put a Firewire port into it. Only problem is that I need a driver to make the computer recognize the port. The driver should come with the operation system, and I checked, but it wasn't there. I do have a drivers disk, but there's tons and they have numbers, not names, so I can't tell if the necessary one is there or not. Help?

What type of computer (model number)? You might be able to find one on the company support site.

Dell Dimension 3000. Doesn't come with a Firewire Port, so I don't think they would bother to include a Firewire driver.

Do you mean that he put in a PCI card, or used an internal connector from the motherboard?

Try looking for a dell driver online and see if it works.

PCI card.

In that case, do you know the manufacturer of the card? If not, can you find out through My Computer?

Already checked their site, they offer certain drivers, but I couldn't find the one I need.

Is it an older computer or did you select the cheaper one with less ports? It's always worth the money for the extras. ;)

If it's an older computer, there's probably not much you can do. If you got one with less ports, you may be able to find someone with the same model who will email you the driver. You can also try that on an older computer with a driver from a similar dell (the one that replaced it).

I got a DVD converter thingy for Christmas. It can capture the video via USB instead of FireWire. Yay!

Very good news tonight! The DVD Converter device works perfectly. I can now import video via A/V cables into the device, which connects via USB to the computer. Hours of good footage is now on the way in. B)
