Title: Link Popularity Ranking
DX - November 13, 2005 09:03 PM (GMT)
Traffic Rating for SMSomehow, we are beating SSCentral in this particular traffic ranking. Sadly when SSC still had sscentral.net, it had a score of at least 1000, 2000 at all times.
When I get our domain name, we will slip majorly in the rankings, and slowly build our way back up higher than we could ever be now. B)
Another Check 20 minutes laterI'm not sure how reliable this traffic ranking site is. iSoaker.com should be in the thousands, not 9. SM also could not have possible added more than 200 references in 20 minutes. It says that the stats fluctuate, but these are very strange.

I had a felling this would happen. With V2 coming and activity picking up I wouldn't be suprised if we become as big as SSC by early next year. B)

We still have a long way to go. v2 still needs to be coded, hosting/domain bought, forum transfered, articles written. There are already more than 200 SM pages and there should be more than 500 v2 pages, all need to be either created or converted to the new coding and backend functions.
One of my friends is going to install a firewire port into my comp, then movies will be imported and edited.
There's a whole bunch of work ahead, and seeing how it is mid-November, we are going to miss the January 1st goal by at least a month.

Woh. I have GOT to know how to do that...
Anyways, I like the new layout and all the articles so far. Can't wait! B)

What you see now is just the tip of the iceberg. Wait until we really get rolling on v2 articles, pictures, and movies!
Until I get the Firewire Port, I am going to import the footage at school, upload it to Putfile, download it to my comp, edit it, upload back to Putfile, and link from SM. I have been thinking that we might have all of our media linked off Putfile rather than use server space on those items. That way, we can also have bigger images with better quality. B)

Is that for the time being, until you get the new hosting, or is that for good?
DX - November 15, 2005 03:24 AM (GMT)
Probably for good.
This would allow us to get a 500mb plan instead of 1000mb, [which would save us a ton of money on our car insurance by switching to Geico]. It will now only cost us $37 total for the hosting. PHP, CSS, FTP, unlimited subdomains, unlimited email accounts, etc. for only $37 because the exchange rate is so good. [Solid Internet is based on Australia]
100mb for m15399's site
Roughly 50mb for SM pages
Roughly 50mb for the SM forums
Whatever's left over for movies larger than 25mb.

Nice to see that someone else finally is checking links! I thought I was the only one.
I'll tell you why this data seems low. You are using
http://domain.com as opposed to
http://www.domain.com. iSoaker.com and Super Soaker Central sadly destroy you the other way. I'm seeing you guys as 60 on this scale and us with a 6000 with iSoaker.com close behind. I checked again and you guys were about 600 with us at about 4000. I wouldn't use this tool for that reason - you need accurate data. I would suggest the one I am using right now because it tracks over a period of time and you can track keywords:
http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/keywords/ Just be aware that when you check more than 200 keywords a day, Google starts to really hate you.
Alternatively, just use Yahoo with the link: prefix on the URL. Google only shows a small sample of total links thanks to the work of black hat SEOs.
You also shouldn't "slip" much if at all if you use a 301 redirect because Google recognizes them as a page move. However, you will fall into the Google sandbox, so I would not expect good ranking until about one year after the domain is bought, so buy early if you have not already. You already rank fairly well for some things, just check page two for homemade water gun at Google and you'll find yourself. I'm thinking that they are relaxing the Google sandbox a bit as newer sites rank better, which is good.

Oh, there we go, SM at 56, SSC and iSC above 1000. That's where it should be right about now.
Know of any way to pay for a domain and hosting without using Paypal, other online methods, etc? I would rather not because I need to open a checking account and the whole process sucks due to age limits. Of course I cdon't want to send a money order halfway around the World either, so it may take a while to do this.
m15399 - November 16, 2005 12:57 AM (GMT)
If credit card is ok, that's probably the easiest. Easier and safer than paypal, but less trouble than sending cheques or cash all the way to Australia.
DX - November 16, 2005 01:41 AM (GMT)
Wow, do they really spell "checks" with a que in other regions/countries? That's the second time I've seen that, the first was from one of the UK members.
If I did use Paypal I would still need a credit card, or at least a checking account. All online purchases require some kind of payment in that manner.

Spelling was never my best subject... I have no idea which one it should be. I can never remember the difference between since and sense either
Can't you use a parent's card?
DX - November 16, 2005 02:50 AM (GMT)
At least "check" and "cheque" can have the same meaning. "Since" and "sense" couldn't be more unrelated...
Then again we try not to be that concerned with spelling and grammar. My parents won't let me use their cards. They have the obvious fear of me accidentally spending more than I have, although I've made it clear that I would be responsible. They have agreed to get me an account somehow [It cannot be in my name until 25 November 2006]. It just might take a while since my mom commutes to New York and she will probably be the one whom opens it.
m15399 - November 16, 2005 02:58 AM (GMT)
^I meant that I could never remember which is which ;)
Anyways, having your own account seems more professional... not that that matters.
DX - November 16, 2005 03:26 AM (GMT)
I haven't got any other choice. But it will be my account in my mom's name since I am not 18. The moment that is done, consider the hosting bought!
