Title: Winter Marches Closer...
DX - October 25, 2005 12:52 AM (GMT)
Hurricane Wilma and a low pressure system from Ohio may converge to form a Noreaster here in the, well, Northeast. That means 6 inches of snow in the interior, and lots of rain on the seaboard since our temperatures won't get low enough for snow. We've already had enough rain this month thank-you-very-much, like we really needed 13 inches all at once! The Sun has been a rare treat this October. I think this will be one weird Winter, since we had a weird summer with a Hurricane Alpha, 3 of the lowest pressures ever recorded in the Atlantic, and leaf foliage 3 weeks late.
LIGHT ANNIHILATOR - October 25, 2005 08:08 PM (GMT)
I think were in for a very cold winter this year. I'm getting high's in the mid 50's, it usually doesn't get that cold untill next month. B)
NiborDude - October 25, 2005 08:30 PM (GMT)
I just want snow. Snow is just something that is essential for winter. Plus we get off from school if we're lucky.
Crashdummy - October 25, 2005 08:39 PM (GMT)
I wish it would snow over here. All we get is rain, and all that does is make school miserable. I don't mind rain in general though, as if it were to snow over here I wouldn't be able to play water polo. ;)

Man, I so want it to snow this year, it has snowed previous years over here, but we never got much, this year maybe one of those years over here where we get a lot of snow, usually happens like every 10 or so years. Snowball fights all round.

My dad has lived here in California in the same neighborhood all of his life and he says it has only snowed twice in his lifetime and that it was barely enough to cover the ground. :( I want snow bad. That and maybe some hills as the only hill in this town is about 5ft tall and is at the hospital, where you can't play with your soakers unless you want to get hit by an ambulance trying to save someones life. :P
Wild Boys - October 25, 2005 09:30 PM (GMT)
Wow, unlucky there. I just really want snow no comment. :P
Its so fun snowball fighting, we get more rain, and really can get depressing at the worst of times when you've not had a good day, with snow its completely different.
NiborDude - October 25, 2005 10:54 PM (GMT)
We generally get around 20 inches (50 centimeters) of snow a year. But the past 3 year's we've gotten 40 inches+ each year which is the first time it's ever happened on recorded history.
Some Guy - October 25, 2005 11:44 PM (GMT)
I think that we're going to have a bunch of wierd years for a bit now. There's been so much snow in my area for the last few years that almost every year when the snow plow came through the end of the cauldesack (please be spelled right...) there would be a mountain of snow. I can hardly remember a time when the seasons were routine.
In my area you are nearly garunteed at least a delayed start if it snows for a while overnight. My bus leaves at 7:05 in the morning, in the winter it's even before sunrise, not much time for it to melt.

I really need a Blizzard this year. It's been 8 years since my last, and this year was the worst in terms of fate. My old town, which is the last place I had a true blizzard [Blizzard of 1997], recieved 40 inches from the "Blizzard of 05" plus 5 more inches the next day from something unrelated. School was out for the week. Here in New Jersey we got 10 inches from that storm. I believe that I will not see another blizzard until I leave New Jersey. That's one curse I still think about, as its been nearly half my life since the '97 storm!
LIGHT ANNIHILATOR - October 26, 2005 09:23 PM (GMT)
I what I got in 2002. When I got 2 feet of snow in one day and school was closed for a week. B)
Hunter - October 26, 2005 10:37 PM (GMT)
Over here it seldom gets colder than 72 degrees, sadly.

You should come over to TN. It's already gone below freezing

Well, I live in Connecticut. We usually are in the single digits to mid-teens for all of January and February. We usually get about 4-5 feet of snow each year. About 6 or 7 days missed. Last couple of years, however, we've gotten around 7 to 8 feet of snow. Strange weather. And something tells me we'll get a lot this year.
Hunter - October 29, 2005 05:18 PM (GMT)
Can you mail some snow to me lol?
DX - November 5, 2005 08:50 PM (GMT)
So much for Winter-it is about 75 degrees here in New Jersey today. A big difference from the 40s we had last week. At least it hasn't rained in a while, which is very good. If all 16 inches of rain we got last month were snow...think of how much snow that would be!
Hunter - November 5, 2005 10:13 PM (GMT)
uh..17 inches? Taking into account that water expands as it freezes...
DX - November 5, 2005 11:16 PM (GMT)
1 inch of rain converts to ~10 inches of snow and vice versa. So we would have had 160 inches of snow, or about 13 1/3 ft. B)
DX - November 19, 2005 03:31 PM (GMT)
And yet another example of variable Northeastern weather:
It was 70 two days ago with heavy rain/wind. Last night it dipped below freezing. We have yet to see snow, but we're getting closer.
I haven't worn a jacket in over 400 days now! I'm one of those people whom finds running with a brisk wind in your face invigorating, rather than freezing. Although I don't know how I got through those below-0 days last year with practice continuing after dark with strong winds howling over the field and ice on the track. It sucked, but I bet this year will be worse. Which is good in terms of snow. B)
Some Guy - November 23, 2005 12:49 AM (GMT)
My area has a chance of snow predicted for tommorrow now, and it was colder this afternoon than it was this morning. Pretty wierd considering it was past the holidays when we go snow last winter.
LIGHT ANNIHILATOR - November 23, 2005 08:32 PM (GMT)
Yesterday I left my dogs water bowl out, and when I went to check this morining it was frozen so it must have gone below frezzing over night, and before I went to bed yesterday i could have sworn I saw snow flurries  . I do expect snow tommorow, because it's so cold I can smell it.
DX - November 24, 2005 04:03 AM (GMT)
Last night we got flurries, tonight we will get snow, maybe some small accumulation. Thanksgiving night we could get up to an inch if we are lucky!
wetmonkey442 - November 24, 2005 02:16 PM (GMT)
Well, I woke up this morning to snow on the ground. Light accumulation, about half an inch, but still very exciting. Any season that has snow before Thanksgiving is bound to be a great one later on.
LIGHT ANNIHILATOR - November 24, 2005 04:10 PM (GMT)
I got snow last night, and all of it melted by this morning  . A few miles to my west they got 6" of snow.
DX - November 25, 2005 01:55 AM (GMT)
We got some snow, but likewise it melted by morning. I was hoping for snow tonight, but I guess all we're getting is 30 MPH winds. :(
hotshotwithcps4100 - November 28, 2005 04:09 PM (GMT)
I got a bit of snow, but it all melted 2 days before Thanksgiving :(. I got (and still have!) plenty of wind though
LIGHT ANNIHILATOR - December 5, 2005 10:11 PM (GMT)
The snow is finally falling and it looks like school will be at least delayed if not closed. B) My area is expecting anywhere from 3-8 " tonight.
