Title: Hosting is getting bought!
Wild Boys - September 27, 2005 06:04 PM (GMT)
Well, my dad was nice enough and said he would now get me the hosting since I had proved to him that I can sell things on eBay. I'll probably buy it on the Saturday as that's when Hunter and I are both in and able to talk since there's no school. If you reading this Hunter, I'll probably see you on AIM this weekend and once that happens we can get down to business and get our site on the road! :)

Cool. I can't do anything on sunday though, because I'm going to a big game with my airsoft team; but Saturday is great, I'll try to be on.

Sorry again, but my dad has been very busy this week so he has not been able to put the money into my account. I could persuade for him to do it today but if that happens it probably won't get to my account by Monday. :(

Ok, hosting should definately get bought this weekend, I'm very sorry for the delay Hunter, but I have been pretty busy lately and as time goes on I won't be around as often, so lets hopefully get it done this weekend. :)

What's the point of "buying" hosting anyway?
Doom - October 12, 2005 08:51 PM (GMT)
You buy hosting for several reasons:
- Pay hosting has no advertisements.
- Pay hosting gives you a much smaller TOS, allowing you to put things on your website that free hosting would not allow you to.
- Pay hosting almost always gives you more space and bandwidth.
- Pay hosting gives you more features such as PHP and web site statistics.
- Pay hosting lets you use a domain name, while most free hosts do not (though the numbers that do are growing).
- Pay hosting gives you FTP and/or SSH, while most hosts only give you a web upload form.
There's many more reasons than what I have listed here to get paid hosting, though I listed the main reasons from the top of my head. Once you get paid hosting, you never turn back. Free hosting is great for beginners, but once you start wanting a little more, you have to pay money usually to get it.

Dam! The hosting price seems to have gone up from £70/$140 to £100/$200 a year, it must have been on some special offer. What's worse, my dad still hasn't put money in, this is really pissing me off to the full with a few other things at the moment!

You might want to try another host. The price seems really steep. The plan I'm buying has the same amount of space, 1000mb, and similar features, but for $70 USD. That's mainly since the host is based in Australia, and the exchange rate works heavily in our favor.

Ok, I just bought the hosting, I got a great one from GoDaddy for only $7.96 a year in one great, reliable package. I just need to wait for Hunter now since we need to create a unique user name .etc. for the account to get setup.

Wen't they the ones who did that superbowl comercial witch the FCC complained about?
Anyway that's a great deal. Although I don't see how the package can be great when it's $8 a year, while Dux and Nibor are paying $150 a year.
Wild Boys - October 15, 2005 07:57 PM (GMT)
Oh, I mean monthly. Made a mistake. Its got 2000MB disk space, 100GB monthly data transfer, PHP and lots more.
It costs $95.52/£55.36 a year.
LIGHT ANNIHILATOR - October 15, 2005 10:56 PM (GMT)
^ Now that makes more sense, still a good deal though. B)

Yes, and I intend to put all that space to use...and I've already coded the current pages in php.

The new SM hosting will cost $70 a year. You're forgetting to add the $25 for a 3 year domain name and $70 for a forum license.

I've already got a video of someone shooting my MXL uploaded and put on a page, but you guys cant see it until the site is released :P.
DX - October 17, 2005 10:33 AM (GMT)
I've already seen it...nothing gets by Duxburian! By the way, you've got the site news and copyright info on your links page, and the home page doesn't exist yet.
Wild Boys - October 17, 2005 03:22 PM (GMT)
You may have seen that video, but you haven't seen any of mine yet.
Hunter - October 17, 2005 11:04 PM (GMT)
I know, it reverts to the homepage instead of giving out 404 errors, I thought that would be nice.
