Establishing Leadership Over Your Soldiers
This is a very important aspect of any commander's capabilities. If your soldiers are unloyal to you, or do not listen to your commands, the overall game play will become worse. This is okay if you are just playing a light game of soakfest, 1hk, or even a light team against team battle. But during those long hard fought games, it is important to recognize one's place in the team. In my team's example, I was unanimously elected leader due to my experience. However, we never fight many huge battles, and I allow my team the liberty of doing pretty much what they want. When I do give an order however, my team complies, and performs it to their best ability. This kind of a well working team, is an essential part to a good waterfight experience. So to help you out with attaining the leadership attribute, I have established 2 basic guidelines that must be followed if you want a compliant team.
1. Be nice
As sissy as it sounds, being nice to your teammates and fellow soldiers, is always a good idea. No, this is not the army goddammit, and you DO NOT need to scream at your soldiers because they need a good leadership structure. That's a bunch of crap. It's a game, and to have fun all around, you can't be too harsh or strict with your guys. IF you treat them with respect they will treat you with respect, and if you help them out when they need it, they will help you out when you need it.
2. Be smart
Remember this, your team will judge your leadership capabilties, be examining past dicisions. If you've made too many mistakes in the past, odds are that your team isn't going to trust you're decisions. How do you avoid this? Simple. Take it slowly at first. Be cautious, and really think out your move or decision before you order you're team to perform it. OFten it is a good idea to rely on the advice of other veteran soldiers. In some cases, these select group of advisors may become officers themselves, and thus your team will expand. Remember, you're team wil support you more if you make good decisions consitently, then if you make a few great decisions and a lot of bad ones.
If you follow these steps to the letter, you should develop a natural leadership ability over your teammates in no time. Hey, maybe next time you charge into battle, you will be leading the charge, instead of back at base, guarding the door.
