Title: How did you get into soaking?

Post here about how you got into soaking, or what first started your interest.

My interest started when I came across Aqua Nexus awhile back. I just got hooked. B)

Started in 1996. Got an xxp 175. Left soaking for a while until I got a MXL in 2001 I think.

I started in around 1997 or 1998. I had water balloon fights on my friend's roof, no guns though. Didn't buy any guns until around 2001.

Always loved soakers. Used friends since about 1996, only got my own a few years later.

Quality of the writing could be improved, but that's basically it. I really haven't been around that long.

Topic revived for the newer members-how did you get into soaking?

My dad got me and my bro super soakers when we were like 3. I think they were XP 35's. They broke and since the Storms were really hot back then, my freind gave me one for my bday!

I got into it when I wanted to start paintballing and was hopelessly out of pocket. So I bought some super soakers and have been trying to host paintball style battles since.(although all I can seem to manage are soakfests)

Well, one day back in August two years ago (2004), I remembered a guy (that I still know) who had this huge Super Soaker with a blue backpack and four nozzles. He used to use in when I was in 6th grade. I decided to look online and find out what it was. My parents had always been against me and my siblings using water guns, or I might have gotten some good guns back in 1999 or 2000. I found SSCentral, and looked around in the reviews. But I couldn't find the gun with a backpack (the CPS3000 pic that was there at SSCentral didn't have the backpack in the pic). So I did some more searching, and found iSoaker.com, and the review (by now I knew it was part of the CPS series). I had a lot more interest in soaking then.

In December 2004, (I had started looking on eBay for good guns, because by then I had read that good ones weren't made anymore, and eBay was the only place to go) I asked my dad to let me and my siblings have soakers. I had my eye on a CPS 2500 that ended up going for $10-15, that wasn't even labeled 2500, only large Super Soaker. My dad said it was winter, and that I should get guns in summer, not winter. He also aid he had some concerns about soakers in general.

Then, mid-June (or May, I don't remember) of 2005 I saw on the front of the Target ad CPS 4100's for $20 each. I was very suprised, because I knew they didn't make them anymore. So I conviced my parents, and me and my mom went out and got four Super Soaker CPS 4100's. Of course, I did not know at the time that they had a weak trigger. My brother's broke first, and he returned his and got a replacement, which he still has. Then mine broke. I did some researching and found what I thought was a repair. It worked sort of, but then it broke, and the trigger didn't have a spring. I gave up, and threw it away.

Soakers then went into a sort of hibernation for a time, because no one wanted to play without me. But I convinced my dad to buy to let me buy a gun on eBay. I decided I wanted the Monster XL (I sort of regret that now, but not really, the MXL is still pretty good). I eventually won one. I then had a few soaker fights in September. But my other brother's also broke, and so we stopped using soakers again. I, of course, was bummed out because I really wanted to drench them with my MXL. :P

Then my dad went away to China for a few weeks. During that time, I got my Grandpa to let me and my two brothers buy a soaker off eBay through his account. I got a CPS 2000 Mk. 2, my brother (who had the replaced 4100 from Target) got a CPS 3200 NIB, and my even younger brother got a Monster NIB. From then on, interest in soakers has increased. I know a lot of friends who have older CPS guns, and hope to get in some wars with them this summer.

Whew, was I supposed to write an essay, or what? That's really long. I hope it's all right, because everyone else here seems to have posted 2-liners. :P If people want me to summarize, I'll go right ahead and edit some stuff out.

In 2003-04 my Strom 1200's pump broke, and I searched online for a repair. I found Soakerdom, and have been attempting battles since.

When I was 3 or 4 years old I have seen a squirt pistol in a Toy store. That got me started. I think that was 1984 or 1985. As for soakers I have seen the Super Soaker 50 comercial on TV and that got me started on soakers. It basicaly just was a routine update from pistons.

SilentGuy - June 18, 2006 11:10 PM (GMT)
I got what I believe to be a piston powered soaker a very long time ago...it looked quite a bit like what the first SS soakers did, so maybe it was one, but I think it was piston powered instead of air pressure. Anyway, I guess I got my aging XP 270 during some random trip to a toy store, and that's all I had for a long time. A friend and I came across iSoaker.com once, and in the last two years I have acquired both an Argon and a SoakerTag CPS 4100. I went back to Soakerdom early this year after only viewing it the year before, and I joined only to be able to view an attached image in a thread. That was a decision I'll never regret...

I first joined iSoaker almost 2 months ago, then I joined SSC. Today I just got the email approval to join here. I think I simply found iSoaker when googling. To how I got into water guns, it's weird. I went to my first water balloon fight for the summer at a retreat and made the mistake of bringing only a squirt gun (other people had squirt guns and were dual wielding them, though good thing they had no soakers) though the only part where I got went was when a water balloon exploded on my right foot. I used a water bottle to get more shots out of it. Later I probably got tired of playing FPS's or something and wanted to get real so I started looking forgood water guns but was unfortuantely about 8 years too late. Yes, I was completely oblivious to Larami soakers at the time (well I saw my neightboor's 2500 but knew nothing about it, including it's name, I had an old SC400 as well but of course, didn't know it's name at the time) and thought 35ft was a good (well good enough) distance until a friend talked about the older guns. I took a search on google and found iSoaker, spending a night looking up stats of the older guns. Later on, I knew the old guns and organized my first water gun fight in years. I got a cheap piston gun, then a flash flood. I borrowed my neighboor's 2000 (mk2) and 2500 and the fight consisted of 3 player teams for a total of 6. There were water balloons and another friend brought his own gun. The hoses were also used. We had just barely enough for everyone (well I'm not actually sure if that's true) and got soaking. It was a CTF soakfest, the only thing you really had to do was find the flag/pringles can first, no rules about getting hit and returning the flag. Regardless, it took 2 hours and everyone was too tired for some king of the hill/free for all later. My next attempt was a complete flop, only 3 people showed up and 2 couldn't fight, so it was just me and my friend. We had a 1 on 1 while the others were inside playing gamecube. Later on, I got a leaky CPS 2100 from the same person, then me and my dad repaired most of the leak with epoxy. I also found an oozinator for dirt cheap on a clearance (specifically, it was $6.30, a canister was $0.95) so of course, I got one dispite how gimmicky it was. (the ooze is rather a mess to work with, but it's better if you can use it effectively like others have) Then my SC400 broke for no apparent reason, turns out an essential part of the air pump that pressurizes the reservoir got cracked, near the pressure relief valve. Also my 2100 was still a small bit leaky and had sime trigger issues. Recently, my dad managed to open it up (it was an mk2 and I shouldn't have to say any more) and now, I'm currently going to do a light K mod with 30 balloons that won't require a PRVF. I'm also going to submerge it in water to look for the leaks, and spray lubricant around the trigger system.

Sorry, this post was originally made in the "When did you join soakerdom?" thread and I copied it over without taking more time to make changes to it. I posted it in there first before I found this thread.
