Title: Alternative battle tactics
Description: For smaller armies

False front line

Using a front false line is a good tactic against a larger army, when they believe they can always win in a pitched battle.

Make your position known (e.g. throw a couple of water-balloons at them from it). Choose an obstacle say a wall (anything that can be hidden behind, but can be assaulted from the front). Then after drawing attention, snipe at the enemy from behind it, make them use their numbers in a largescale frontal attack. When they start the charge, hide. Don't leg it, hide behind a second wall, or have a trench, or hide behind a tree.

Now the enemy army will have focused their attack on the wall, they may well be tired after the charge, they will have wasted water and pressure to keep your heads down and then after they jump the wall. Also their charge will have run out of momentum.

Now leap out of hiding before the enemy can repump, and then you will have all of them with their backs to the wall, out of water and out of energy. But don't gloat, otherwise some may get away, pop up and soak the lot of the buggers... then RUN!

More to come!

Good article. Some parts are a little unclear, but I can understand the general idea. How about writing more tactics articles, I'll keep going with the positions. Not only are articles good for the SM site, but they also generate more interest and activity on the forums! B)

I intend to write more.

What parts are unclear? Tell me and I'll change them.

Anyway, next one:

Confusion

We're going to use this one tomorrow in our battle. The idea first cames to me when I was musing about building a mud wall from the loose soil from mole hills.

Use this when you have been routed and need to catch your breath. Build up around 4 mounds per person, not big mounds, just big enough for one man to hide behind. Or use existing scenery like trees or something.

When you are running, run towards your mounds, and just hide, If there is only a 3 to 1 chance of finding someone behind a mound, your enemies aren't going to rush down quickly. While your enemies are wondering where you are and how to get you, catch your breath and re-pump, maybe keep some water-bottles there to re-fill. Your enemies won't know what to do, they will be confused in the face of a tactical nightmare.

Eventually, your enemies will decide on the only real plan left to them, a full-frontal attack. Unfortunately this plan is only to stop your retreat, but when they start the charge, you could try the false front-line technique, or just stay and fight if you aren't that outnumbered (you have a couple of easily defendable mounds).
