Title: UK War
Description: Would it be possible?

Forceuser - March 21, 2005 03:57 PM (GMT)
Well I brought this up briefly on High Command but I decided to carry on the discussion here as we have slightly more UK members. Would a UK war be possible? We would have to find somewhere to have it, which would preferably be near where someone lives (that rules me out, there's nowhere good of the required size near me). There would also be sorting out permission, etc.

Do you think you would be able to come if there was one and roughly what are of the country are you in? Before anything is organised, we need to find out the level of interest. This is probably the wrong time of year to sort this out, a bit too late for this year and a bit too early for next year.

Hopefully, I would be able to go; I'm sure I could eventually persuade my parents! As for the area of the country, I'm in the South-East in Sussex.

Commander_Gaunt - March 21, 2005 06:36 PM (GMT)
I think we should push for this year if we're going to have one, otherwise it would just be put off. I'm in warwickshire, and I have plenty of places to battle in. Parental permission could be a problem but I could work on it.

Forceuser - March 21, 2005 07:16 PM (GMT)
You would be about two and a half hours away from me by train (although I'm not sure how easy that would be to get to). As it happens though, I should be staying at Warwick Uni for three weeks, 24th July to 13th August, for a summer school. If it were at the beginning or end of that it would make transport easy, although I may have a problem with taking soakers - I don't know whether I would be allowed them at summer school! However, that is a lot of ifs. I would need to know more first.

Commander_Gaunt - March 21, 2005 07:35 PM (GMT)
Yeah, as for soakers, I might be able to lend you one, but I have a few people around me who would join in and might need a soaker. Could you get away from the Uni for a day? Or isn't that how the summer school would work? If anyone wants a more precise location for multi-map or whatever, I'll be living in/around *PM me* (I'm moving there very soon).

I have a couple of friends with very laid-back parents there, maybe I could get them to host it specifically (easier than getting parentals to agree) I'll see what I can do.

What exactly would the job of the host be? I would quite like to know before commiting myself.

EDIT by Spinner: I think it's safer not to reveal such precise whereabouts openly. ;)

Forceuser - March 21, 2005 08:48 PM (GMT)
I wouldn't be able to get away for a day, there's stuff basically all the time, plus it's too strict for that.

The job of the host would basically be to organise the battles and to provide information about where to stay (if necessary).

Commander_Gaunt - March 21, 2005 08:52 PM (GMT)
I'll arrange a battle with my friends on the decided day and then you guys can join in, that way my parents couldn't complain! But about places to stay, It would depend on how much people wanted to spend.

wetmonkey442 - March 21, 2005 09:07 PM (GMT)
Sounds like a great idea. At least in the UK, a total country wide battle isn't really really hard to coordinate like here in the states. A regional war is the best we could do.

Commander_Gaunt - March 21, 2005 09:09 PM (GMT)
We need to mail everyone in the UK. Like Dark Elite, Wild Boys (even though he's probably seen this already (hint hint hint)) etc etc. We need to have a load of people there.

Spinner - March 21, 2005 09:44 PM (GMT)
I could probably drive there, since I'm not too far away. I could also bring a soaker for Forceuser. An XXP 175 - I know how he loves that gun. Just kidding.

Commander_Gaunt - March 21, 2005 10:18 PM (GMT)
Well I think that we need to try and generate more interest, maybe mail everyone who's location is the UK on SSC?

Spinner - March 21, 2005 10:24 PM (GMT)
That might come under Spam laws, I'm not clear on them. A better idea would be to PM each member. There aren't that many worthwhile ones, so it shouldn't take too long. ;)

I might also be able to bring my friend, an inactive member of SSC.

Forceuser - March 22, 2005 08:08 AM (GMT)
Who else is in the UK? I can think of Nick, Welliotdude, Dark Elite and Wild Boys.

Thanks for the offers of guns, although I may have come up with a way to take mine. How far away from Warwick Uni are you CG?

Spinner - March 22, 2005 10:21 AM (GMT)
There's olorins, though I don't know where he's based.

Commander_Gaunt - March 22, 2005 07:43 PM (GMT)
Warwick Uni is a 5 sites, and they are a long way from each other... I would need to know which one you were at, but not too far probably.

And by mail I meant PM, but email could be better because some are inactive.

Forceuser - March 22, 2005 08:20 PM (GMT)
I think it's at the main site. I could probably bring my soaker and leave it with you, which would be good.

Commander_Gaunt - March 22, 2005 10:26 PM (GMT)
Main sites in Coventry I think, thats not that close to me (under 30 mins, but still a way).

Forceuser - March 23, 2005 08:16 AM (GMT)
If it's south of you then it would be fine, but otherwise it would still probably be fine. However, I don't even know yet whether I'm in the summer school, confirmation should have come through by now but it hasn't. Anyway, I should know by the end of the week.

Commander_Gaunt - April 2, 2005 09:54 AM (GMT)
My parents won't let me host a war. :(

Well I don't think so, they said no to a war with just me and people my parents already know so they're hardly likely to let people they don't know come... :(

I'll try to get some of my friends with more lax parents to start soaking more, then they might let everyone come but I don't know if that will happen.

Sorry

Forceuser - April 2, 2005 11:24 AM (GMT)
Well that would be a major setback. Somehow I don't think there is going to be a UK war this year.

Commander_Gaunt - April 2, 2005 11:26 AM (GMT)
No, to be honest we need more people. Maybe the noobs we get this year will have improved sufficiently by next year.

Forceuser - April 2, 2005 11:36 AM (GMT)
I think there are enough people this year, it's just that not all of them will be able to go.

Spinner - April 3, 2005 02:41 PM (GMT)
Well that's a blow. Unfortunately I don't think there's anywhere here I could realistically hold a war, even supposing you could get here, which would be unlikely, considering I'm not really central.

I can't think of anything positive to say apart from...Forceuser, is there anywhere near you where a war could be held? I might be able to make that, just about.

Forceuser - April 3, 2005 07:34 PM (GMT)
Not really and I'm also not central, nor would I be able to get enough of my friends here to go to make it actually worth it.
