The Daily Prophet
September 7th, 1976
It seems that every Wizard and Witch has one person on his or her mind during these dark times.  He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.  Even Muggles have begun to notice changes in their lives.  Muggle News Reporters blame recent catastrophes like typhoons and deadly snowstorms on the shifting of tectonic plates, and global warming.  We know better though.  Everywhere around the world, there have been increasing deaths.  You-Know-Who has been finding ways to kill Wizards, Witches, and Muggles alike in the masses.  He’s gaining supporters, which he calls Death Eaters, slowly and steadily.  These Death Eaters have been aiding Him in killing hundreds of people.

We know of these Death Eaters due to the recent capture of two wizards, Audley and Roscoe*. Both were caught late last night near the scene of a brutal murder (see page 5 for more details). Sources claim they had spotted the two using the renowned Killing Curse at leisure. They, of course, deny any sort of involvement, and Roscoe even went so far as to claim ‘they were under the act of the Imperius Curse’.  The Ministry has yet to decide how these people should be tried, and until then the wizards will be inhibiting Azkaban. The prison is a horrific place, guarded by Dementors that feed merely on pleasant emotions.  People go mad in there…After Azkaban no one is the same.

Because of these recent mortalities, many people are taking extreme precautions.  People don’t go on the streets at night, and no one goes near Knockturn Alley.  Students are being encouraged to stay at Hogwarts, where Aurors have been sent in large numbers to protect the school.

But even Hogwarts isn’t as safe as it once was.  There are rumors of Death Eaters plotting inside the walls of the Castle.  No one has been found yet, but all professors are on the look out for suspicious behavior.  Perhaps the Aurors can weed out those who ar-

Crumple.

A mob of flames engulfed the Daily Prophet, slowly chewing it to ashes. Aurors? You had to be joking. A villainous chuckle elapsed from between the lips of a dark-haired male. So the Ministry was finally catching onto these antics, were they? What a shame, it was way too little, way too late. Did they not realize how many supporters You-Know-Who had gained in the time it took them to realize just what had been unfolding under their noses? They were everywhere. Bloody everywhere. And more recently some had even migrated near school boundaries. The Hog's Head was a common meeting place, and well, for once the reporters weren't feeding the public a load of rubbish, Death Eaters were indeed lurking inside the walls of the Scottish castle as mere students at that.

Silhouettes debate then they test their fate
Pride is on the line the signs are dangerous
Hands too number to feel wrapped around the wheel
Tonight they face the fact some are never coming back

In a rugged movement the boy shoved up his sleeve, revealing an illustration similar to that of a muggle tattoo. Clear as day, there it was -- a snake slithering in and out of a maleficent looking skull. The Dark Mark. Staring wildly at it, the boy traced his fingers over each and every curve, swirl, and circle, leaving no part of the serpent untouched. This mark -- it was a sign of dedication, dedication to an extraordinarily powerful wizard.

Silhouettes in Disguise leather hearts lawless eyes
Dancing shadows over rock and under fire
Some will cry "table's turned."
Some will die but none will learn
Silhouettes in Disguise crash and burn

Yes, the Dark Lord was getting stronger. Soon. Soon it would be the time. He would prevail the Wizarding World, Death Eaters by his side. And what praise this boy would receive along with some of his fellow peers. They had been successfully maintaining the dangerous lifestyle of a Death Eating while still attending school. No one had been caught yet despite those dimwitted Aurors’ efforts. He had to admit though, with them scattered throughout the castle for protection, it made things considerably more difficult. No one wants to get sent to Azkaban at the ripe age of seventeen. No one wants to get sent to Azkaban period.

They pick the time and place then they fall from grace
They're riding on a rail trying to chase the dragon
Engines never cool trade their sins for fuel
That's what they're running on
When they're blown to kingdom come

The male hoisted himself off of the olive couch situated in the center of the Slytherin Common Room, his eyes narrowed slightly as he focused on the dimming fire in front of him. “If only they knew what He had in store for the World…” he murmured in a deep voice, shaking his head from side to side ever so slightly, “They would not be wasting their time with silly Aurors.”

Another snicker, and the boy pulled his sleeve back over the forbidden image. It had been a long night, and much as the way the flames had slowly diminished, he too decided upon retiring to his dormitory.

The life he lived was not a restful one. A silhouette in disguise.
