BBC websiteI was shocked to hear about this. Very sad for the sport of rugby league.
Condolences to his friends and family.
Rest in Peace.
The way he fought the illness reminded many of the bravery he showed on that field. It is a tragedy, and the awareness he raised may well have helped save others in future.
Also, well done to Wigan for paying him more than they had to. They set out to prove in court that they had paid up his contract, yet when Gregory dropped the claim (which he only made out of financial necessity), they paid around 20 grand that they didnt need to.
Rugby league is basically one big family. The minority status of the sport means even rival fans often come together to discuss all things RL, without any danger of it being marred by violence of any description. Losing our own in such a manor is one which affects the whole sport.
RIP Mike
Very well said Andy.
