Title: Deciding on a price for a site...

sportydude - June 5, 2007 12:53 AM (GMT)
How do you guys who make sites decide on the price for a site you make? I am making one for someone and I am not sure how much to charge. The layout is posted here as well. Thanks!

First you have to figure out what your clients budget is: Do they have money to burn are they looking for a deal etc.

Then you have to figure out what an hour of your time costs. So do you believe on average your time is worth 40 dollars an hour? etc

Then you have to figure out how much time you will spend on the project and work it out from there.

Considering its a web page design you won't have any expenses I wouldn't think.

If your using your own photography you can charge more.

Also you have to set in your contract that you will only include say two revisions. So say your done the website and he doesn't like something you change it, only allow two revisions because otherwise you will be spending all your time trying to make it perfect and it will cost the client too much money.

For sure if its your first job and you don't have a portfolio to prove your worth then I guess you can't overcharge.

Still I wouldn't do it too cheap unless your going to put very little time into it. If you only charge him 200 bucks but it takes you more than 10 hours then thats less than 20 bucks an hour.

I would suggest you overcharge your initial quote, so say you want to make 350 then initially quote him for 400 or 450 and negotiate down to 350 that way he feels like he got a deal and you get what you really wanted anyways.
