Title: Favorite Genre
Description: Which Type?
Hunter2049 - October 26, 2004 03:08 AM (GMT)
Which Genre of gameplay do you like the best for the PC? I personally like the Action/First Person Shooter genre, my absolute favorite being Battlefield 1942 and it's mods, especially Desert Combat and Galactic Conquest.

...bump.
Anyways, seeing as I am horrid at First Person games, I'll go with the Platformer genre. It's just such an awesome genre as it hits home to many "instant-classics" such as; the Donkey Kong Country trilogy, the earlier parts of the Mario series, Earthworm Jim, and Alfred The Chicken, to name a few.

The platformer genre is good, but for me I can't stand 'em on the PC. Games like Prince of Persia: Warior Within are good games, I mean, they have a good concept, but they're just lacking in something. I think that you can only have a good platformer game on a console.

RTS games. They're the only genre that really don't work on consoles, or handhelds until my little dual screened bundle of joy comes. ;) :D

First Person Shooter followed by Real Time Strategy.
You simply can't beat Half-Life 2... the physics, the gameplay, the realism of it all. I've almost dumped myself hundreds of times playing Ravenholm in the dark... it's THAT realistic. You would too if a bunch of zombies launched black headcrabs that took you down within an inch of your life at you, followed by really fast brown headcrab zombies coming at you to slash you to bits... other games like Simulations and Puzzle games just don't cut it.
Real Time Strategy is all aboot brainpower and a good storyline to boot. That's why the last good game to achieve both was Emperor: Battle for Dune. Most all of Westwood's creations were top notch until Big Brother (EA) came and bought them up. I cried for weeks.

MMORPGS I am currently on the WoW (World of Warcraft) Bandwagon, and have no intention on jumping off anytime soon... I also enjoy age of Empires... what other game can you spend 2-3 hours in multiplayer and not feal like you've wated your time, AoE my friend.. also Wow does the same thing.

Platformer.
...oh, on PC. Um... there're games for the PC? :o
Seriously, I'm a console gamer at heart. Action, Platformer, it's my bag. I do like the Adventure, though. Gotta have my SCUMM.

First person shooters and rpgs.
I would play the MMORPGS but I don't like to "Pay to Play"
PrinceofPersia - May 8, 2005 11:07 PM (GMT)
I like Action/Adventure 3person fighter games mostly :P
My favourite game is basicly Prince of Persia.. the new ones: Sands of Time , Warrior Within... Fable was nice also
Snood - May 8, 2005 11:24 PM (GMT)
Fable was good but way to short and didn't live up tp what Peter Moleniux said it would........like saying it would be online and that it would be the best RPG of all time...... but it's still fun to decimate villages.....
Payneos Maxamaian - May 10, 2005 01:00 AM (GMT)
^ That was me, by the way, lol
Snood - May 10, 2005 11:02 AM (GMT)
Peter Moleniux better not screw this one up............

For me, it's all about the first person shooter. Half-Life 2 is purely genieus. My favorite FPS of all time, thought, is Duke Nukem 3D. It was the first one I've played and has stayed my favorite for eternity.
Payneos Maxamaian - May 12, 2005 11:39 PM (GMT)
I hold out little faith... but it IS sounding better and better as time goes on.

FPS/RTS > You
Enough said...
cartooning_monkey - August 4, 2005 11:56 PM (GMT)
FPS by far, because those are usually the most realistic and intense games. (*cough* Half-life 2! *cough*)
Arma - September 13, 2005 10:50 AM (GMT)
All games are role-play
I like adventure and the dreams of the creator being set in place. Someones life's work, below what he has in his mind but now there for others. Places I can only see behind my eyes if not for graphics.
I hate GTA, I fucking hate it! It has ruined the concept of traversing a city and universe, done poorly by amateur intellectual children.
I have writtain a story for Wipeout 4 which I am proud of, somehow there should be another.
The characters have a purpose less existence like ours. They race to forget themselves. They can go anywhere and do anything but surrounded by people they are alone. They have apartments and museums, libraries, beaches, cafés, abandoned buildings, secret catacombs, skyscrapers, all enterable.
Driver 3 was a prime example of what could be. But it lacked doors that were open. Enough of stealing cars, we need to be confronted with humanity.

Fear rocked! ok now that thats done hmmmm... do i have to pick a fav? I suppose most of my fav are FPS or classic platformers. Platformers sure arent the same anymore.
And dont anyone for get Jazz Jackrabbit. That was a **** good platformer for pc!
Zyphyer - October 28, 2005 01:46 PM (GMT)
hmmmm... it's almost impossible to decide. I have favs from almost every genre (being i'm a pc nut more than anything)
I'lll take FPS for 500 Alex. I think i have more of those than anything (more becase they make more than any other genre) and have more favorites.
I think a nod needs to be given to RTS games. I still have not seen a rts brought to a console game well. (yes i know they made starcraft for 64 it suck compared to the pc)
True turn based i have seen on consoles work ok. Civ II was on SNES i believe. and even the first act raiser had some strategy to it .
hmmmm... no one does epic RPG's like pc's either. Baulders gate anyone? perhaps they figure console gamers dont have the patience to play one game for 100+ hours. (cept for Xenogears (pso) it was 90 + hours and very sweet)
