Hi, Angela, I borrowed a tens machine for a while when my back was at its worst, about 6 yrs ago. I found it did not help me at that time.
Technology has moved on so far since then, that the newer ones may be much, much better.
When you are in pain, anything looks worth a try. You could ask at your Doctors, they may have one you could use for a time first, that's how I got mine,
Hope this helps
David :)

I have a friend who use one, he swears by it. I tried one, but it did not make much difference to me, too thick skinned.

Hi Angela
I used a Tens machine for many years after my back injury. I found it really helped me a lot. Do your research to get a good one as some are better than others. Mine was recommended by the Physiotherapist at the hospital.

:o :o I used one for quite sometime and found that it did help but really as that little extra not unfortunately as a substitute for painkillers.
Just a point. I had my car broken into when I was still employed and they stole my work bag out of the boot which contained mt TENS machine. When the incident was reported to the police they were concerned that if the TENS machine was used incorrectly it might cause harm! Ah, those poor little thieves. I thought I was going to be charged with breaching health and safety.
I hope it works for you.

Hi
I used one for phantom pain when I had an above knee amputation back in April 07. It worked when the painkillers alone didn't. Maybe it was a combination of the 2 treatments?
I've just bought one on eBay from Hong Kong - under £12 delivered but listed elsewhere at £30 + P&P. Hope it works when/if it arrives! :D
Cheers
Mike

Interesting, John went to see the physio dept at our local hospital this week to get a TENs machine and when they assessed him they said that he could not have one as there was too little sensation in his arms to make one viable. You apparently have to have some feeling in the limb before they work. They are now taking him through a course of acupuncture, to see if that helps him. So it may be a good idea for anyone thinking of buying a machine privately to try through the local physio first. After all you don't need to waste money on a device which is unsuitable, do you?
