It is a sad fact of life that some people are always looking to create trouble and to abuse others in all walks of life. That is true on the Internet also.
To try and ensure that everybody can enjoy this facility safely and without being pestered by salesmen and worse we all need some form of security, just as you have a lock on your front door at home. Well the registration process is just like that lock, it ensures that only those who are entitled too can actually post messages but everybody can read them.
All registrations have to be approved, to make sure they are not submitted by those who just want to cause trouble, or problems, for other members.
To register for the DPS forum is quiet simple really, here is how to do it.
Near to the top of the opening page you will see this Welcome Guest ( Log In | Register )
Just click the word Register with your mouse and the process starts.
A new window will open up on your screen with the title Registration Form. You treat that just like any paper form…. no you don’t throw it in the bin.
First you need to pick a user name. This can be whatever you want but anything obscene will get deleted. Most people choose to be known by their own name but it can be whatever you want.
You then have to decide on a password for yourself. This must be longer than 3 letters or numbers, or a combination of them, but must be less than 32. Nobody else will know what that password is and you can change it later on if you want to or you forget what it is. Just to prove that you can remember it, you then have to type it in all over again. If it does not match the first one then you will have to choose another password all over again.
The username and password are your key to the front door and they let you into the forum so that you can post messages and images. Now for the lock and bolt.
Next you need to enter a valid email address. This so that we can send you an email, to which you must respond, to prove that it is valid. This is the same as asking the meter reader for his ID card when he calls. It provides a link to the person registering, so that if it proves to be somebody with malicious intent they can be traced if necessary. Its not fool proof but neither is the lock on your door.
Lastly there is the legal bit. At the bottom you will see a section Terms of service. I suggest you read them and then click on the little box at the bottom to say you agree to abide by them. Finally click on the bit that says “Submit my registration”.
Your registration now joins the queue, along with any others, for one final check and approval.
The registration will now be checked manually to see if it is a valid one, usually a straightforward process. If you have chosen a strange username or you are using an email address that is a little odd or if anything does not look quite right you may get an email requesting a few more details just to ensure you are a genuine user and not some con merchant or trouble maker, fortunately to the experienced eye they are easy to spot.
:) That’s it you should now be able to fully enjoy the forum :) .
I check for new registrations at least once a day so please allow a little time between registering and contacting us because of any problems.
