Unofficial Transcendence Posting Rules & Guidelines

As member of our forum community, you must participate responsibly. If you have any questions regarding these Rules, please contact any of our forum moderators via the board's personal message system or by email.

Prohibited Activities & Related Policies

Spamming

Unless a thread or forum is designated as a place for spamming, you may not spam. Spam includes, but is not limited to, the following:

* Posting nonsensical messages
* "Flooding" the forum with similar meaning messages
* Post count farming (posting for no reason other than increasing your post count)
* Messages without content
* Free ____ links (i.e. free iPods, free PSP, etc.)

Advertising

Please do not use these forums as purely for advertising your own site (or forums). Linking to your site in your signature is alright, as long as there is no accompanying advertising (i.e "why my product is great"/slogans, etc.).

If you are affiliated with a site that is relevant to the Transcendence community or would simply like to link to it as part of a discussion, however, feel free.

We will not tolerate new threads for every weekly update on your site, however. We will also not tolerate forumers who use their accounts exclusively to promote other sites.

Forgery or impersonation

Attempting to impersonate any person, moderators or users, is prohibited. Impersonation includes using forged instant messenger names or similar usernames (i.e. "FluffyDragon_El", "fossaperson", etc.) in an effort to deceive or mislead.

Profanities

You may not use profanity in these forums. Some slang may be considered profane when used in certain contexts.

Harassment

We have no tolerance for personal attacks as determined by forum moderators, whether public or private, towards any user or administrator of the forum.

Do not bait users or moderators. Baiting is posting with a clear purpose to provoke incendiary posts and behavior that might result in other users violating these Rules.

Offensive Images / Shock Sites

* Do not post or link to shock sites, or any such excessively obscene material. If you are unsure whether what you want to post may be such, please email a moderator first before posting.

* Do not post or link to sexually offensive materials. Again, if you are unsure whether what you want to post may be such, please email a moderator first before posting.

Privacy

* Unless a user has first permitted it by express consent, don't disclose any personal about them. Examples of personal information include real name, email addresses, IP addresses, physical mail addresses and phone numbers.
* Do not post any private/email messages or instant messenger messages ("chatlogs") in an attempt to harass another user, regardless of consent.

Signatures

Signatures (whether made using the forum software or manually by the user), just like posts, must not violate any part of these Rules.

Moderation & Bans

* You may not evade a ban. Doing so will drastically lengthen your ban. If you have a problem with the banning or feel it was inappropriate, please email a moderator with the reasons you feel it was so. We of course reserve the right to refuse such a request.
* You may not re-edit a message that has been edited by a moderator, without express permission.
* Repeated offenses are usually needed before permanent banning in most cases, but particularly disruptive behaviour may warrant more drastic action.

Miscellaneous

* Do not post multiple negative posts with identical meanings. If you feel the need to say something, say it once and then move on. Do not disrupt discussions just to get your point/view out. Your view is already out, anyway, do you really need to annoy everyone by repeating it?
* You may not abuse your ability to post in HTML in the forum.
* We would appreciate you not posting in a manner that is harmful to the Unofficial Transcendence Forum. For example, "These forums suck. Go here!".
* Do not register multiple accounts in an attempt to violate these Rules.

Encouraged Activities

There's too many of these to list. Essentially, almost anything that's not in the Prohibited Activities.

You can also get a good idea from how other members act -- if you "lurk" (read without posting) for a bit you can get a pretty good idea of what's useful/good/interesting posting and what's not.

IMPORTANT NOTE: These Rules aren't supposed to cover everything. We may act in any way we feel necessary if, in our judgment, you are acting counter-productively to the forum community.
