If any body has a helmet that needs to be painted black let me know. If you bring it to practice today i can have it painted by sunday for the game. Also if you know anybody that needs their helmet painted let them know.

is this STILL an issue after all this time? I remember getting a batch of all sorts of colour helmets and spray-painting them in the car park at City's Milton Road ground, with a rattle-can from Halford's, in 1985..... I still have that helmet although it looks pretty scratched up!

out of curiosity, where did the red uniforms come from? I was surprised to find when I went there with my younger son a couple of years ago, that Cambridge rugby club are now in red, not the sky-blue with white shorts of my playing days...
Ours were black and white. George liked the Chicago Bears and his idea was that we should play in white jerseys, black helmets and black pants.. but we preferred the all-black look and that became the usual turn-out. The white shirts were lettered CAMBRIDGE on the chest, the black ones didn't have that.
looking at my old helmet, it has been rattle-canned black and has a "cats" bobcat sticker on each side, a big "just say NO" sticker - an anti-drugs campaign we supported at one stage - and half a dozen small 'bobcats' on the back, by the seam. from memory these were for wins one season?

ok well i was with the cats first in 94 - 98 and we were in red shirts and pants with black lids , before then when it was the crunchers it was the same, only their was abit of blue trim involved, you best bet is with Chris Wilson who has most club history stats etc

I would guess it was when they changed the name to the Crunchers. It could well be that the old black-and-white wasn't available by then, those uniforms belonged to George Z

hi bryan
i'm sure you won't remember me at all (chris wilson), but i've been involved with the cats continuously since back in 1986, when i did the chains a few time and helped the two stats guys (who went to college with). the following year i took over the offence stats, then the defence too a couple of years later. been doing stats ever since.
the black and white colours changed to red in 1989, when the team received sponsorship from the washington state apple commission, based in seattle. we changed our name to the 'crunchers' and this was our logo:

.
it was supposed to be a 3-year deal, but some kid got poisoned, or something along those lines, and it was cancelled after the first year as the wsac needed the money for the lawsuit. we became the wildcats in 1990.
the red colours remained, with various changes over the years. our current jersey style is based on the indianapolis colts.

Hi Chris
I don't remember anyone doing the stats, although someone must have, because we certainly had them from the very beginning.
from memory, I played in 1985 and 1986 and occasional appearances in 1987 - I remember playing in a demo game at the East of England Show, and two games at Alconbury, a play-off and a mid-week game against Alconbury Novices the following season, where I made an appearance at tight end, and got issued with the #84 black jersey which I still have! I remember there were problems with players because of the mid-week date, which is how I came to be playing; I worked on the rigs at that time and I was on off-shift.
I played all my home games at Milton Road. I remember the first game being against Basingstoke ( Cavaliers? ). Crowds then were in the hundreds, filled up that small stand quite nicely, and we used to run on in formation for stretches and warm-ups beforehand and then line up and wave to the crowd after the game.
I stand to be corrected if someone has any stats, but 1986 was one of those years you remember for me, and it was around then.
