Got this from Penny Arcade. Liefeld has a webpage, babies weep, and it has his own hi-larious comic strip called Shrink, which I guess is about a sex hooker who has hooker sex with super-heroes to power up her sex hooker space ship which is fueled by eroticons.... hooker.

thank god my eyes exploded the very second I clicked on that link and thusly didn't read that terrible, terrible pun based comedy of awfulness or my intestines might have strangled my brain in an attempt to save me from the nightmares that would surely come.

Okay, Shrink is really bad, but Liefeld is more known for his art than his writing. So let's look at some of his art:

Look at Cable's eyes. You'd think he'd at least check with the character's creator to get those little details right. Oh, wait...

I know a lot of people who didn't buy C/D because of the Liefeld covers. They assumed that he was the one drawing the book. Thank God he wasn't. C/D remains Marvel's funniest book, and Liefeld still can't Cable's glowing eye right.

seriously Cable has a tent rolled up on his back and is weilding some kind of uber-thermos

meanwhile Deadpool is giving him a horsey ride

I've seen plenty of Liefeld discussion this past, what with the Titans announcement and all. Here's some interesting stuff i've come across.

http://www.dreamers.com/adlo/estudios/comparativas.htm

Now I know this is in Spanish, but from what I've heard this is a site that is actually defending Liefeld's work. I have no idea how they're managing that when they have a page devoted to examples of him swiping other peoples work.

Then there's this, the infamous Cap's boobs pic. However, if you click on the next few pages, you'll notice some photoshop editing has been done to the pic. The next page will make you laugh. However, going beyond the second page is like entering into a realm so horrible, you'll wish you never clicked on the link and possibly wish you'd never been born. You have been warned.

I also saw this pic of Liefeld's X-Force, complete with circled examples of WTF? anatomy. Enjoy!

well at least he's improved since that X-force pic, youngblood was bad but leg and arm widths didn't randomly change halfway down.

that caps boobs pick is hilaious, what editor actually let him publish that.

I think some of those page swipes are a little unjustified. The X-Force/ Titans one are similar but it's a pretty generic image that it could be coincidental (The same goes for the Youngblood/GL panel.) I don't think using a photograph as a model actually qualifies as a swipe either. But Rob does indeed suck. I really do wonder how popular he actually is. I mean have you ever met anyone that likes Rob Liefeld's work or finds it tolerable? Me neither.

I used to like it when I was getting into comics i'll freely admit but then I wasn't exactly clured up on the betetr stories/art at the time.

and I would never have liekd anything as awful as that X-force pic, I know he's bad but dear god the anatomy doesn't even approach human.

I suggest running the comparisons page through a webpage translator. Then you get to read how Liefeld fans try to justify some of the images.

Seriously, they're calling him god-like in some instances, it's ridiculous.

I don't think using a photograph as a model actually qualifies as a swipe either.

If you've got the Kingdom Come trade paperback, in the back Alex Ross talks about how he draws using human models. Most of them are friends posing for him, but for Green Arrow he used Sean Connery in "First Knight." It even has a picture of Connery standing with his arms crossed, and next to him is Ollie in the exact same position with the exact same facial movements, and the clothing was nearly the same as well.

But if somebody (in this case Alex Ross, the artist) hadn't pointed that out to me, I wouldn't have gone "Dear God, that's Sean Connery!" There's enough of a difference for it to remain the artist's work still.

Of course I'm saying all this without having looked at this site yet so...

lots of artists use photo reference, anyone who tends more towards the "realistic" like Greg Land, Alex Ross and I think Jim Lee is bound to use them.

It's no biggy.

Photo reference isn't a problem. Swiping poses and other artwork might border on plagiarism. I'm not sure if he's guilty of it. His artwork still sucks, though.

How could Liefield have continued to have a job after that picture? There is no way to defend that. Any editor with an ounce of sanity would have fired him on the spot after he turned that in. I truly begin to see why the comics industry declined in the 80s, with editors who would tolerate this running the show.

I was pretty sure I'd read that it had its start in the 80s. My memory is admittedly a little rusty in that department, though.

I own X-Force #1, which suggests it's relatively new.

Maybe he's thinking of New Mutants, the team that became X-Force. Honestly, Liefeld's really early stuff on "Hawk and Dove" in the 80's wasn't too shabby. Then the downhill started...

WTF?? anatomy, indeed. What's wrong with their KNEES?? And what's the deal with the too-tight crotch wrinkles?? Nothing looks right in that picure...or in the Captain America one, where he has freakishly huge man-boobs. ninja.gif

New Mutants ended in the early 90's (I believe it was 1990 actually) and transmogrified into X-force. Since that picture is showing some kind of future new mutants team (read the copy) as Warlock died quite a while before X-force was launched I figure it's an 80's liefeild issue.

BTW New Mutants was an excellent comic right up until the day they introduced Cable the Legion and Demon Bear storylines drawn by Bill Sienkewicz (prolly spelt wrong there) are worth picking up by anyone, good stuff.

Yeah, I remember really liking Capullo's work on that book. He resented that he wasn't put on X-Men and instead had to settle for X-Force. Talented guy who seems to be wasting his skills on Spawn. Kind of sad in my opinion.

Cable's arm (problem number 3 in that picture) is so long that it would have to have another joint between the should and the bicep. At least that's how it looks to me. He should have that one replaced with metal, too. It would at least distract from the pants of unending tightness and those legs that have no business supporting a body like that.
