A federal jury convicted an NYPD detective Monday of selling out his badge to protect a cocaine trafficker. :bad cop:
The jury found Detective Luis Batista of Brooklyn's 90th Precinct had in effect become a member of the drug dealer's crew, giving him crucial inside law enforcement info.
Co-defendant Henry Conde, a former sergeant in the Internal Affairs Bureau, was acquitted of charges he leaked secrets about the feds' investigation into Batista.
Conde still faces an administrative trial and dismissal from the force for disclosing the contents of an Internal Affairs log to Batista who was his longtime friend.
Brooklyn Federal Judge Dora Irizarry allowed Batista - who faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison - to remain free on $500,000 bail.
"This case is about people doing favors for others, all of which was illegal and corrupt," Assistant U.S. Attorney Lee Freedman said in his closing argument.
