Title: Galactic Federation of Free Alliances

Smashbro964 - July 14, 2005 07:37 AM (GMT)
The Galactic Federation of Free Alliances is a fictional government from the Star Wars novel series, more commonly called the Galactic Alliance for short. Extrinsically, "GFFA" (the acronym for the Galactic Alliance) stands for Galaxy Far, Far Away, and refers to the Star Wars galaxy as a whole. The name was coined by its first chief of state, Cal Omas, during the Yuuzhan Vong Invasion following the New Republic's decisive victory at the Battle of Ebaq.

Governmental changes between the New Republic and the Galactic Alliance were relatively minor, and are generally characterized by an increase in executive power and authority over the legislature.

It is the successor state to the New Republic. During the Yuuzhan Vong Invasion of the Star Wars galaxy, political infighting and weak leadership led the New Republic to a great number of defeats in the war and that government would not long survive the Fall of Coruscant. Some time after the Yuuzhan Vong capture of Coruscant, it completely reorganized into the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances, or the Galactic Alliance for short, following its alliance with the Imperial Remnant and also, to an extent, with the Chiss, an insular civilisation from the Unknown Regions on the edge of the galaxy. They retook Coruscant from Yuuzhan Vong forces at the end of the war.

With Coruscant devasted and 'Vong-formed' beyond recognition, the government of the Galactic Alliance planned to relocate to Denon, a world in the Core that had escaped bombardment and occupation by the Yuuzhan Vong. The Alliance has undertaken reconstruction efforts on Coruscant, however the planet's future is still in question.

The Galactic Alliance was led by Chief of State Cal Omas and his High Council, comprised of Jedi, Senators and members of the Alliance's military and governmental leadership. Its tactics often made use of hit-and-run strikes popularized by the Rebel Alliance during the Galactic Civil War.

Chiss Government
The center of politics lies on the world of Csilla, deep within in Chiss Space. In the capital city Csaplar, the parliament and cabinet is located at the House Palace. Each of the outlying 28 Chiss colonies is represented with one appointed governor, or House leaders. There are four main ruling families: The Cspala, the Nuruodo, the Inrokini and the Sabosen. These families represent bloodlines that even predate modern Chiss civilisation. Every Chiss claims affiliation to one of the four families, as determined by tradition and birthplace. But in truth, the family names are only cultural holdovers. In fact have the Chiss bloodlines been mixed so much in the past, that every Chiss could claim affiliation to every of the families. And cause there are no rivalries between the families, a certain affiliation wouldn't affect day-to-day living.
Though the Cabinet handles much of the intricacies of Chiss government, all decisions have to be proved by one of the four families. Every family has a special section is to supervise: The Csala handle colonial affairs, such as resource distribution and agriculture. The Nuruodo handle military and all foreign affairs (Grand Admiral Thrawn was a member of this family!). The Inrokini handle industry, science and communication. Sabosen are responsible for justice, health and education.

The Chiss government functions to siphon important decisions up the command chain to the families. Individual colonies voice their issues in the Parliament, where they are taken up by departments in the Cabinet. Then they are finally distilled to the families. The parliament positions are democratically determined by colonial vote. Cabinet positions are appointed by the most relevant families.

The Csala´s most pressing responsibility is the distribution of resources to the colonies and the people of Csilla. This is so important, cause the Chiss have no finances. Everything is provided by the state.

The Chiss military is a sizeable force. The Nuruodo family is ultimately in charge of the fleet and the army. Because it has been never required to act as a single unit, it was split up into 28 colonial forces, called Phalanxes. The Phalanx operations are usually guided by an officer, who is appointed by the House Leader, called a Syndic. Separate from the Phalanxes, the Chiss keep a Expansionary Defence Fleet, which rather serves under the foreign affairs, than the military asset. This CEDF patrols the boarders of Chiss space, while the Phalanxes handle everything that slips past the Fleet. In times of Crisis, like the Ssi-ruuvi threat, or the more recent Yuuzhan Vong invasion, the CEDF draws upon the nearby Phalanxes to strengthen itself, and tightening boarder patrols. Though Fleet units seldom leave Chiss space, some forces had been seen fighting Vong, assisting the NR and IR Forces, like the famous 181st Tie Spike Fighter Squadron, under command of Jagged Fel. In the past, a significant portion of the CEDF, Syndic Mitth´raw´nuodo´s (Thrawn´s) Household Phalanx, has left the rest of the fleet to deal with encroaching threats. They, together with Imperial Forces guarded Chiss Space, though some of the ruling families would have called this act treason and secession. But they kept the knowledge of it hidden from the public.
More and more, the Chiss open diplomatic and other connections to the Galactic Federation, the Imperial Refugees and many others. Their Knowlege and Information is still kept tightly seeled, but a small group of outsiders was allowed to search the archives. And with the galaxy uniting, it won´t be long until the Chiss follow the example of the Empire and join the Alliance, like their Expansionary Defense Fleet already has, helping in the fight and in Military Intelligence, as well as scientific war projects like Alpha Red.

Hutt Government
The Hutts that were able to flee the invasion of Hutt Space by the Yuuzhan Vong, settled on Tatooine and similar planets. Tatooine became their new ruling world and main base. The Yuuzhan Vong had earlier in the "Hutt-Yuuzhan Vong pact" declared no interest in Tatooine, and so the Hutts had a perfect hiding place. A Council consisting of the heads of all major Hutt Clans ruled all Hutt business and politics. As their "senate" functions the former Palace of Jabba the Hutt on Tatooine, and several other similar buildings all over the planets liveable regions. The Hutts were making money in their usual businesses: slavery, smuggling (especially refugees or Jedi), podrace bets, etc. They even took high fees for hiding refugees and Jedi, for helping evacuations with their ships and fleets, or for delivering information about the Vong to the Jedi and vice versa! Like in the past, they played both sides of the game for their enrichment. But because of the Vong invasion in Hutt Space, they favour the Jedi to a certain degree.

New Republic Government
When Chief of State Leia Organa Solo didn't candidate for the next election of Chief of State, the political opposition took over power. Borsk Fey´lya was elected Chief of State, though few years ago the crisis about the Bothan involvement in the devastation of Caamas took place. The political system was still the same the NR featured since the days of Grand Admiral Thrawn; only new faces took over the politics.

After the retaking of the galactic Capital world of Coruscant, the republican Government settled in Imperial City. The main government institutions are the Senate and the Chief of State. The new government was inspired by that of the Old Republic, but with a stronger government, to never again let a threat neither from the outside, nor the inside arise, or get to galactic power.

Membership:
Each member world, system, sector or group of planets are voluntary members. Every member could quit at any time, and every world, asking for membership is allowed to join, if it fulfils some requirements. They have to follow the NR charter and several statutes, respect the rights of living beings, etc. and, of course, they have to pay annual assessments. But every member is given enough freedom in politics, etc. to keep their culture and traditions. That often complicates matters, or evolves into misunderstandings, but in those cases, ambassadors and other institutions solve the problems. Affiliate membership, or non-voting membership, is available to subordinate political units and to duly recognised representatives of sentient species not constituting a political unit.

Senate:
After the replacement of the Provisional Council, the Senate is the main body of NR politics. Each Senator, representing 1 or several worlds, has only a single vote, regardless of the population presented. Every senator can represent from only one to a large number of planets, sectors, or even organisations spanning several planets (like the Trade Federation of the old Republic). Affiliate non-voting members are represented by a Legate on Coruscant, who may speak in general sessions of the senate, but may not vote on senate business or serve in the senate's various bodies (to avoid dual representation, cause the world/species/… is represented already by a sector senator [see Chancellor Palpatine, when he lets Amidala speak before the senate in TPM, or in AOTC, Jar Jar is the legate for the Gungans in the Senate!]). Cause of the Senates potentially unlimited and large membership, the Senate in whole is an almost impossibly unwieldy structure for getting work done. That's why most of the real government is performed by the Senate's councils, committees and commissions. The daily business of the Senate proper is primarily speechmaking and public debate. When the senate meets as a committee of the whole, it is referred to as the New Republic Assembly.

· Councils are appointed bodies with the autonomous decision-making and appropriation authority over some segment of government operations outside the Senate proper, f.e. The Defence Council overseeing the navy. The most powerful members of the Senate are disproportionately represented on the senate's councils.
· Committees are elected bodies with the authority to administer various aspects of Senate operations, including the general budget. They are semi-autonomous; in the event of a unanimous committee vote, the approval of the senate-in-whole is not required, but it may override a less-than-unanimous committee decision with a three-to-five majority.
· Commissions are voluntary bodies with advisory capacity only. They may prepare reports on issues of concern for presentation to the President of the Senate, the First Administrator, the First Admiral, or to the general membership; they may as well schedule and conduct hearings, or contract for independent research.

Chief of State: (President, Chancellor, etc.)
A chief of state is elected by a three-to-five majority of the Senators, and he/she/it serves as well as Commander-in-chief of the Fleet. To recall a president, the senate needs a majority vote, after a petition of no confidence by a three-to-five majority of the Ruling, or Inner Council, or by ¼ of the primary members of the senate. In case of a unanimous vote, the Ruling Council can block the election of a new president. The Council consists of the chairmen of the senate councils and the President of the Senate. The Chief of State can at every time select any member of the Council, to conduct the president's business of the senate in his/her absence from that body. In case of incapacitation, incommunicado or death of the president, the chairman of the ministry council is first in line of succession (followed by defence, commerce and justice, in that order) and becomes acting president. The Ministry Council elects a new president from any former presidents, the current Minister of State or any former Minister of State.

The General Ministry:
This is the non-military bureaucracy of the NR. It is organized into several large permanent Ministries, smaller task-oriented service Agencies, and various semi-independent Institutes. The various senate councils have oversight and financing authority over the corresponding Ministries. The Cabinet consists of the heads of the various Ministries, and is headed by the First Administrator. This body is the link between the Chief of State and the Ministries. The First Administrator is appointed by the Ministry Council with the approval of the Chief of State from a list of nominees, made by the president of the Senate. He heads the NR General Ministry and reports to the Chief of State.

The Court of Justice:
The members of this body are selected by the Senate Justice Council from a list of nominees, presented by the president of the Senate. The First Justice is elected by the other members of the Court from among their number. Nominally independent, the power of the Court of Justice is limited by its narrowly defined jurisdiction: to review charges of violations of the Charter by members or by the other branches of the NR´s government. The Court of Justice doesn't serve as the court of last appeal for ordinary civil and criminal cases; rather they are settled by local judicial authorities on member worlds.

The New Republic Defence Force: (= Navy, Fleet, etc.)
This is the military arm of the NR. It operates several full fleets, each consisting of hundreds of warships, transports and other vessels, divided into battlegroups and taskforces, in addition to ground troop divisions and starfighter wings. Fleet bureaucracy is handled by Fleet Command, the Intelligence section, the Technology section and the Quartermaster.
The Minister of Defence serves now as Supreme Commander and is appointed by the Defence Council with the approval of the President of the Senate. He heads the Defence Force, reports to the Chief of State and serves at his/her pleasure.
· State of Readiness: Though smaller than the Imperial predecessor, the fleet still numbers several thousand ships (around 5000-10000 [last number is of the NJO, after restarting the enlargement of the military]).

The New Republic died when the Invaders captured the capital planet Coruscant and Chief of State Borsk Fey´lya killed himself along the Imperial Palace and the Data Towers with a bomb. Afterwards the surviving fractions of the Republic fought for themselves, some even forming a new republic, but in the turmoil of the darkest hour of the invasion, new hope emerged. While the military branch of the former Republic founded inofficially a new Rebel Alliance, living the Dream, and fighting back, the political branch reorganized, and will be formed into a new galaxy enspanning government, called Galactic Federation of Free Planets (see GFFA section).

Peace Brigade Government

In the beginning the Peace Brigade was a loose Alliance of people that wanted to survive the invasion and lost believe in the new Republic cause of their politics way of ´doing nothing´. So they allied themselves with the ´thought to be winners´ the Yuuzhan Vong. In helping them to corrupt planetary governments, capture high ranking people and turn over Jedi to the Invaders. But as the Brigade evolved into a big and powerful Movement, nearly as big as the mighty Black Sun had once been, they needed a clear structure and governemnt.

After the Yuuzhan Vong drove the Hutts out of their former Space, Ylesia was given to the Brigade as their central governments homeplanet. The hirarchy was an simple one, one Leader, and the command went down certain routes into the smallest cells operating under cover all over the galaxy. It seems the Brigade is a mix between the Bothan Spy Net and Black Sun, using special operative tactics and various ways reaching from political manipulation, corruption and many other tricks to force innocent governments and people to further their goals wothout knowing, or acting against their own believes.

The Brigade managed an own Fleet, but it´s best weapon was still manipulation. After the Corellian Involvement into the Invasion War and Thrackan Sal Solos reappearnce (read the novel summaries for that news), the Yuuzhan Vong forced him to lead the Brigade, and so he did. When Ylesia was attacked by a taskforce of the Republic and Bothan Fleet. Again the Brigades Command Level is destroyed and Sal Solo captured, plotting for his escape in his cell. But Like Black Sun and similar organisations, the Brigade would soon have filled these positions again, and the war goes on.

Bothan Government

Bothan Council
This is the primary governmental body of the Bothan people, and is comprised of 608 registers clans at the height of the Galactic Civil War. Fifty-three other clans are currently petitioning for membership. They are responsible for all aspects of Bothan life, including security and finance. The head of the Council holds the title of First Secretary. It was later known as the Combined Clans during the New Republic.

Bothan Diplomatic Corps
This is the primary branch of the Bothan government which meets with the leaders of other worlds, as well as the New Republic, to ensure that Bothan ideals are met in any alliance.

Bothan Military Academy
This military institution was founded on Bothawui, and serves to train those Bothans whose callings center on the defense of their planets. It is not highly regarded, however, since Bothans prefer to do battle in the political arena rather than with blasters and starships. Sometimes words are mightier than a blaster. But if needed the Military will strike precise and hard, using the Information the Spynet delivered to their best advantage.

Ar´kai
If the State of Ar´kai is called, the whole Bothan society, every loyal Bothan being, joins the war. Males, females and even children, healthy and ill people as well are recruted to fight for Bothan Space and for the whole race. Ar´kai is a state when the Bothan people will first stop fighting if either they themselves or their enemy is wiped out completely and not a single being survived this ultimate warfare. As you may know, this is very seldom the case, and only in situations that may bring the extinction of the own species, this Ar´kai is called out. In the time of the Yuuzhan Vong Invasion for the first time in centuries, the Bothan Rulking Council calles out the Ar´kai. With the death of their surpreme leader, chancellor Borsk Fey´lya of the New Republic, and the so defeated NR, the Bothan people fight for themselves and survival in the darkest year of the War. This is the time when Ar´kai will bring either victory or doom over their people.

Bothan Military Intelligence
This branch of the Bothan armed forces is involved in the acquisition of data about our wartime enemies. It is related to the semi-independent Bothan Spynet.

Bothan Spynet
This elite group of spies and information brokers is of a caliber slightly better than anything the Empire - or even Black Sun, at its height - can match. This proves to be a boon for the Alliance, since Bothans are of an anti-Imperial sentiment. It is the Bothan Spynet that discovered the plans to the second Death Star were being transported on the Suprosa.

Combined Clans Center Building
This is the huge, spacious business center of the Combined Clans, located in Merchant's Square, in the city of Drev'starn on Bothawui. Much of the Bothan financial empire is centered in this edifice

Hapes Cluster Government
The Hapes Cluster is a pure monarchic matriarchy, ruled by the Queen Mother. The Queen Mother, after coronation, gets the Hapan title of Ta´a Chume. The aristocratic system features the dominance of women, and the reasons for that lie in the Hapan history. A group of pirates hijacked several women, and later lived with them in their base in the Hapes Cluster, but once, when the pirates went out on mission and didn't come back, all dead, only the women and children survived and had to rule and govern. So the system of female rule became tradition, and the Hapes Cluster with its 63 member worlds rose to power. The unique Battle Dragon and Nova-class Cruiser space-cruisers made it impossible to access or leave the Cluster unseen. Every member world has 1 Battle Dragon, added to the Royal Fleet accompanying the royal Spaceship "Star Home". Other additional Battle Dragons guard the only passage through that you can access the cluster. When the Cluster had problems with the republic, it closed its borders and became isolated for centuries, even surviving the Clone Wars and Palpatine´s Rule unharmed. Later it opened boarders for diplomatic talk with the New Republic and Chief of State Organa. And after a diplomatic affair, cause of Han Solo kidnapping Leia, who was courted by the Hapan Prince Isolder, who's title was "Chume da", the Cluster joined the New Republic as a independent affiliated member, but refused to take a seat in the senate. And Dathomir was included as a Hapan colony as the uofficial 64th member world. Isolder had forced this, and married Teneniel Djo, a dathomirian witch, making her Princess of the Cluster. His mother wanted him to marry, but not a witch, and so secretly plotted always against Teneniel. When the time came and Isolder and Teneniel took over the throne, Teneniel became the next Queen Mother and her daughter Tenel Ka, whose full name is Tenel Ka cume ta Djo, was the Princess. There were several failed assassination attempts on the queen and her daughter, until the Yuuzhan Vong invaded the galaxy and changed everything. When Leia asked for Hapan help, half the Cluster agreed, and so half the fleet joined the NR Battle Force near Fondor, but was destroyed, together with the half the Yuuzhan Vong fleet, by a shot from Centerpoint Station. Being angry and upset the Cluster closed its boarders again and isolated itself, fighting the Vong for revenge. Secretly they rebuilt the lost parts of their fleet and while the Princess served as Jedi Knight in the galaxy, the situation on the throne got more difficult. When the Jedi and refugee fleets asked for safety in the Cluster, queen Teneniel helped them inside the boarders. But the Former Queenmother Ta´a Chume secretly furthered the anti-Jedi and anti-Teneniel sentiment, and so the queen was assassinated and a new queen had to be chosen. Ta´a Chume proposed the Darksider-Jaina Solo, which meany she would have to marry Isolder, but she refused to marry her friend's father who was more than twice her age. Tenel Ka steped in and took her duty, becoming the new Queen Mother of the Hapes Cluster, helping her friend out of that situation. Tenel Ka didn't want that job for a long time, but now understood that it was necessary. The Hapes Cluster took most of Coruscant's refugees and assisted the Jedi in the fight against the Vong with all possible actions.

Imperial Remnant Government
The remaining systems of the once mighty galactic empire are ruled now by a council of Moff's, who each have their sectors of influence within the Remnant. The military might of the still large Imperial Fleet lies in the hands of Admiral Pellaeon. Only few small connections tie the Imperial Remnant to the Chiss. With them, they share a part of their fleet and troops, to guarantee the protection of both Empires against the Vong. As liaison officer between the cultures functions Baron Soontir Fel, former Imperial Ace-Pilot in the 181st Tie-Fighter Squadron. And while he is the liaison, his son Jagged Fel is the price he has to pay, if he betrays the Chiss. Jagged trains and flies with Chiss pilots, as a guarantee for Soontir, that if he betrays the Chiss, they will revenge on his Son, but that will never happen.

The Government of the Remnant is located on Bastion, the new capital world. Here, since the peace treaty with the New Republic, Imperial politics take shapes. In the treaty, the Moff's had agreed to guarantee the essential rights of all beings. And so, the former imperial rule through fear and terror was no more. The Moff's decide on all things by vote. Every Moff has only 1 vote, and the law, etc. is official, if the majority of the Moff's agrees to it. But the Remnant is still far from democracy. There are guidelines for the government, but there is still an Imperial feeling within the people.

When the Invasion hit the Remnant, it was alreaedy too late to fight back. The Last stand of the Empire only worked with the help of the Jedi, and refugee fleets left for the Unknown Regions & Chiss Space hoping for asylum. The Remnant and the Moff council is no more than a group of refugees on distant worlds in the Unknown Regions, Bastion and major worlds fell. But when the galaxy unites for the first time, even Hapes, the surviving Hutt Clans and many others joining, the United Galactic Federation of Free Alliances is formed, and soon the Empire will join a united galaxy, to take the fight back to the Vong.

Yuuzhan Vong Government
It is only known, that the Overlord Shimmra rules the Vong. The Vong feature a caste system. There are the Warrior Caste, the Shaper Caste, the Intendant Caste, the Priest Caste and the Shamed Ones. The Warriors are the military, the Shapers are the scientists of bio-engineered technology, and the priests the religious part; the Intendant Caste are the politicians and business beings of the Yuuzhan Vong. The lowest level is that of the Workers caste including Shamed Ones, Chazrach Slaves (imported from Vong home galaxy), Shaped Slave races from the occupied galaxy, f.e. Vagh Rodiek (shaped Rodians to be a worker slave. If calling or referring to a Yuuzhan Vong only as Vong, this is the worst insult you can give them. They see this as blasphemy of highest order to their God Yun-Yuuzhan, and when hearing that turn berserker. Most is known about the military of the Vong, though the rest of the government and civil live remains a mystery to the galaxy.
Yuuzhan Vong Gods
Yun-Harla
The Trickster (also referred to as the cloaked Goddess), represents deception & aggression. Although there are protests of any god, most are associated with this god
Yun-Ne'Shel the Modeller, oversees natural life cycles of the universe and shall help in creative processes
Yun-Q'aah one of the Lovers, the twin gods
Yun-Shuno Every Yuuzhan Vong that's body / biology rejects Bio-enhancement with implants is referred to as a Shamed One and seen as a Slave Worker. They are shunned by the other gods. Yun-Shuno watches over them and speaks for them to the other gods
Yun-Txiin one of the Lovers, the twin gods
Yun-Yammka the Slayer, Yuuzhan Vong god of war
Yun-Yuuzhan Cosmic Lord, sacrificed many body parts to create the lesser gods & the Yuuzhan Vong
The Lover Gods It is a Yuuzhan Vong Law that no relationships outside ones caste are allowed and disobeying this law automatically leads to sacrification to the Lover Gods
Shimmra
Overlord Shimmra of the Intendant Caste is the Supreme Ruler of all Yuuzhan Vong Government, but he stays in the darkness and is seldom seen.
Note

In some cases, the YV system resembles that of Palatine's Empire. There is one Ruler behind the scene, Shimmra / Palpatine, and his right hand overseeing the invasion, Warmaster Tsavong Lah / Vader. With him is a female, that is neither Vong, nor NR affiliated (or we don't know for sure yet!), Vergere / Mara Jade. Then there is Nom Anor, a political genius that plots new strikes and uses superweapons to destroy planets (Sernpidal), Nom Anor / Tarkin.

Recent turmoil and rumors started a revolt within Yuuzhan Vong castes. Mainly Shaped Ones, but as well members of all castes join the growing revolution. The Jedi were held as heros and even as gods by some. All began with Anakin Solo and Vua Rapuung on Yavin IV, but many other legends and stories joind the holy words, that so many people spread by word. When Executor Nom Anor was expelled fpr failure, he heard about the movement, joind it and became its leader using his wisdom and connections to bring hope and chances to their favor. Many things will happen in future, and much is to come...

Corellian System/Sector Government
Corellia's recorded history began as a democracy, in the days of Berethon e Solo, however Korol Solo created the planet into a monarchy. After his execution, Corellia again returned to a republic government. Three years after the Battle of Endor, the main Imperial battle fleets garrisoned key worlds, including Corellia and Kuat, due to their valuable shipyards. Eleven years later, a riot in the Selonian enclave of Bela Vistal touched off widespread chaos and triggered the takeover of Corellia's government by Thrackan Sal-Solo and the Human League. The league was defeated and Sal-Solo was captured by the intervention of the New Republic and a Bakuran task force.

The Center of Government is the 20 story Corona House. The planet is governed by a Diktat, while the sector itself was represented in the Galactic Senate by a Senator. Corellians have a cultural wariness towards big galactic government. Though one of the founding worlds of the Republic, Corellia has fostered a tradition of independence, and has, during its long history, attempted to vie for separation from the union more than once.

When Dooku´s Separatist movement arose during the waning days of the Republic, Corellia tried to remain neutral in the conflict. Not wanting to be involved in a decisive Military Creation Act vote that would determine the future of armed conflict in the galaxy, Senator Garm Bel Iblis withdrew Corellia from the vote, and sealed up its borders, hoping to wait out the coming conflagration. His attempt at isolation failed, and before long, Corellia too was dragged into the Clone Wars that followed. With the rise of the Empire, Corellia once again bristled under the authority of Coruscant, but did not actively join the Rebellion. The shipyards of Corellia were controlled by the Imperial starfleet, and many Corellians were drafted into Imperial service. As the sector's native military forces were dispatched throughout the galaxy to deal with the growing Rebellion, piracy bled into Corellia's borders, disrupting the valuable trade that had kept Corellia independent for so long. Senator Garm Bel Iblis disappeared from galactic politics, waging his own private war against the Empire, while many Corellians joined the nascent Alliance. As the Rebellion began scoring increasingly larger victories against the Empire, the Corellians enacted strict isolationist measures, restricting trade and ship traffic through the region. Under such hermetic conditions, the population of the sector fomented an almost xenophobic character, encouraging a paranoid resentment towards outsiders. With the collapse of the Empire started at the Battle of Endor, Corellia suffered as Imperial forces withdrew to shore up defenses at Coruscant and elsewhere. The Corellian Diktat, who was little more than an Imperial puppet, lost his power base and became a target of resentful Corellians. He fled to the Outlier section of Corellian sector, prompting the collapse of the Corellian government. Into this mess stepped the New Republic, who appointed a new leader to help clean up the disarray. Governor-General Micamberlecto attempted to infuse order into a bewildering tangle of conflicting agendas. Many of the humans who prospered under Imperial rule held great disdain over the new government and the cultural aversion to outsiders created a great challenge to the New Republic's efforts. Fourteen years after Endor, Chief of State Leia Organa Solo voyaged to Corellia for an historic trade summit, eager to work out some of sector's problems. Instead, she was drawn into a sudden flash-fire of insurrection that history would later recall as the Corellian Incident. The Sacorran Triad, a secretive council of human, Drall and Selonian dictators based in the Corellian sector, had grown in power since the collapse of the Empire, and attempted a coup of the sector that would ensure Corellian independence. The Triad took control of Centerpoint station's immense repulsorlift. Tehy targeted far sway worlds and planned to destroy them for getting what they wanted. But a combined Republican & Bakuran Task Force ended the conflict together with the help of the three Solo Kids. And so Corellia was again under Republic Control. The New Governor (that´s the same as Diktat) was choosen, Marcha, a Drall.
In the NJO Corellia was important again in the deadly game, the Invaders and the Defenders played, and only one winner would get the galaxy far, far away. The one who controls Centerpoint Station, controls Corellia... and maybe the galaxy as well.

For Corellias involvement in the NJO see the Novel summaries section.

Security
The Corellian system was wealthy enough to afford its own fleet and security forces. During the time of the Republic, it handled its own law enforcement free from the involvement of the galactic government. The Corellian Security Force, or CorSec, remained largely intact even after the rise of Empire.
