Title: Shaggy Zoanthids...

TulsaReefer - March 17, 2008 03:44 AM (GMT)
This is a zoanthid colony I started from a single "mystery" polyp I bought from the shrimp tank at Ultimate for $1.50. It was a dull brown from not having enough light for a long time, and didn't look very appealing, but I thought for the price it might be fun to see what it eventually might turn into. It's been about 9 months now, and it's turned into quite a nice colony. It's one of the only zoanthid colonies I keep up high in my tank, in a high light area, most of the others are now down at the sand level. Recently it's decided to turn quite shaggy. The angle on this colony makes it hard to get a good picture, but this is an example of how long the skirt has become on them. The centers are baby blue, and skirt is red:

And yes, I'm hoping to begin propagating this colony soon. In need to move it as it's beginning to grow into my green montipora, so I'll be moving one of them in the next week or two.
