Title: What Salt do you use?
Description: What Salt and Why?

The other end of this question is why? Availabilty, Cost, Ingredients... What if we could all agree on a brand and a sponsoring store wanted to stock it with a club only price.

I started the hobby using IO and then moved over to IO Reef Crystals. IORC seems to keep my alk and calcium in a good region(not that I regulary test) I typically buy this item online from Foster & Smith 32.00 with 10.00 shipping.

Since we have always used reg Instant Ocean, Scott and I have decided to see if the extra money spent on Tropic Marin Pro Reef was really worth it. Just started yesterday. We're going to try for a few months before making up our minds. However were only using it on our coral and show tanks. Because the I.O. hasn't done us wrong.

Iam going to start testing different brands of salt and see what the difference is,so far I have tested ReefCrystals and I will do Tropic Marin and few others later,RC has around 350 Cal,9 Alk but was a little low on mag around 1190PPm,no Phosphates either.

I cant believe you people are not using the pet-co brand salt :D .If you check out the reef chemistry forum there has been many tests done on all the salts.Have you all herd anything about a bad batch of Reef Crystals that had low Calc?

A special OMAS selected salt sounds like a great idea. I would be glad to pull out my OMAS card for a special price. Please count me in to support this idea for the salt I buy. How do we make it a win for the LFS stores ?

As for a prefered brand, I would certainly want the seasoned, sucessful reefers to make the selection. From the pole at the moment that would appear to be IO crystals.

Yes, I did hear about that . . . .

I think TM and the original IO are the only ones that I trust right now.

I have a bucket of RC as well, and next time I mix up a batch I'll test it as well, though it's probably best if comparing salts to do it with same test kits/setup to rule out differences in testing methodology.

Great news everyone, While we all may use different brands Scott K. At Premier Aquatics has worked out a special buy for card carrying members of OMAS.
$45.00 per bucket of IO Reef Crystals after our 10% discount, All that Scott asks is that if you plan on buying a bucket to call him so that he can bring it in on his weekly shipment. No Pre pay just a couple of days notice.

I hope we all take advantage of this offer.
