| I wanted to send this to everyone, Richard Hoar, an Aquarium member and avid diver, started a grassroots campaign to bring this incredible film to Tulsa. Little did he know what an incredible response he would receive from the makers of Sharkwater. I would encourage everyone to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to see this film, it has garnered over 20 national and international awards and they are getting ready for their UK premier. Tulsa is the first location in this region to show Sharkwater and I have been told that people are planning to come from Dallas, OKC and even Kansas. I encourage everyone to go to www.sharkwater.com this is a powerful documentary about the plight of the shark population and is raising awareness of growing threats to their survival and the fight to ensure their continued existence. This is a message from Richard Hoar and many thanks to him for his persistence and determination to bring Sharkwater to Tulsa! Karen INCREDIBLE NEWS! R.S.V.P. urgently requested! Rob Stewart, filmmaker of the Sharkwater documentary movie, is coming to Tulsa next week! http://www.sharkwater.com In cooperation with the Oklahoma Aquarium (http://www.okaquarium.org), Rob is offering to host a special educational session about sharks and his work on this documentary film, to be held on Tuesday evening, Jan. 22nd. - but only if there is enough interest! The Aquarium will offer 2-for-1 admission for this very special event, but they urgently need a head count of people who will attend, so that they can confirm arrangements with Rob Stewart. So please... R.S.V.P. right away by e-mail to Karen Dills, Community Education Manager at the Oklahoma Aquarium: mailto:education@okaquarium.org I think this is an fantastic opportunity for Tulsans, and especially scuba divers and students of marine life, the ocean, the environment, ecological policy and film studies - everything I've read about Rob is that he is an extraordinary young man, an excellent public speaker, and obviously impassioned about sharks and their dire situation. Plus, what a bonus to meet him in person, right before the Sharkwater movie is shown in Tulsa! (January 25 - 31, at AMC Southroads) Please call the Aquarium if you have questions: (918) 296-FISH (3474) The Oklahoma Aquarium is located at: 300 Aquarium Drive Jenks, Oklahoma 74037 (Just across the 96th Street bridge on the Arkansas River) Also, I believe there are plans still in the making now at the Aquarium to have Rob host some educational sessions during the day for school kids - Karen is coordinating with local schools to see if that can be organized quickly enough. AND... Tulsa's local ABC television station, Channel 8 - KTUL, is going to do an interview segment with Rob Stewart that will air on Thursday, January 24th, between 9:00AM - 10:00AM on the Good Day Tulsa show. One of their news anchors, Kristin Dickerson, is a scuba diver, and has done some special reports in cooperation with the Oklahoma Aquarium in the past on coral reefs, etc. So Karen at the Aquarium has coordinated with Sharkwater Productions' public relations team and the folks at Channel 8 to put all this together. In the coming week, the Tulsa World newspaper, and Tulsa Today online news, will also run stories about this internationally award-winning documentary. Please encourage your students, family, friends and co-workers to visit the Aquarium, attend the educational sessions with Rob Stewart, and go watch the Sharkwater movie at Southroads AMC (41st & Yale) running from January 25 - 31. Thanks very much for helping to spread the word! Cordially, Richard Hoar Karen Dills Community Education Manager Ph: 918.528.1515 Fax: 918.296.3467 |
