I lost both of my tangs during the ice storm we had.I am now looking for 1 or 2 new ones and would like some opinions. My tank is 5 ft long with 4000 gph.

I lost mine, too. Had a yellow and a blue regal. I'm definitely replacing the yellow (he was my favorite fish), but unsure on the other one. I think I'm going to shy away from larger fish this time, because my tank is only 4 ft long.

I lost my yellow-bellied hippo tang to the ice storm, 7 days into the power outage, as well as the Blackspot Angel (day 6) in the picture with her:

:-( :-( :-(

I replaced her with this purple tang earlier this week:

I've been really happy with her so far. My top 3 tangs are hippo, purple, and sailfin, but the sailfin gets too large for me... I'd go purple or blue if I were you, but that's just my preference. Or you could do something less-seen, like a Scopas or Convict, just to mix things up. Good luck finding a replacement!

Very nice purple! I really like the sort of spotted coloration.

Something I've always wondered about, some purples seem to be somewhat striped, some spotted, and some solid. Mine is only spotted around the head, but is solid on the rest of the body. Wonder if they are from different areas, or if it's age, or something else.

I read somewhere that it has to do with age... but it might also have to do with lighting, because mine appears almost solid at first glance, and all the spots don't come out unless you're looking really closely or under a camera flash. I don't really know entirely...

Alot of tang coloration has to do with behavior and moods. My sailfin will get really dark when he's angry, and become really light and get spots around the face and mid body when he eats.

As for tangs to get, I think you should get a Clown Tang and a Half Black Mimic Tang. Premier has in a couple of the mimics and they look REALLY good.

I did hace the clown tang and I loved it while it was alive. It just wouldnt eat no matter what I did.

Are they still buds??? Hope so....shouldn't have sold you that sailfin - should've kept it for the show tank. Don't see them that nice that often!
