The first annual OMAS Reef Tour was fantastic, thanks to the efforts of many.
Thank you to Lance and Rhonda Hix for Stop #1, a beautiful in-wall tank viewable from 3 sides in an extraordinary house ... all presented with breakfast, juice and coffee.
Thank you to Dr. Mendouano for Stop #2, a unique 62 gallon tank that looks like it actually is 120 gallons. Dr. Menduoano's tank is built into the reception desk of his Cosmetic Surgery practice at 21st & Lewis and it is terrific. Shane at Ultimate Reefs maintains this tank for Dr. Menduano and he is the reason that Dr. Menduano was willing to come into the office on a Saturday soley to show a bunch of strangers his tank. Thank you Dr and Thank You Shane !!
Thank you Bob Wiebel for Stop #3. Bob's tank has more corraline growing than any tank in Tulsa and probably is the most custom built tank in the club. As an old cabinet maker, Bob has built his stand, his canopy and his sump, and his tank absolutely deserves its prominant and free-standing place in the middle of his dining and living room. Absolutley awesome.
Jarrod Lee's Tank was Stop #4. Actually, Big Al's was Stop #4 but Jarrod's was Tank #4. Jarrod continues to regin as the LPS king. Beautiful zoes, awesome LPS, terrifiic colors. Thank you Jarrod !!
Bobby and Judy Mercado's tanks comprised Stop #5, and as always, the Mercado tanks were extraordinary. It was great fun watching the faces of those who never had seen Bobby and Judy's tanks previously. Jaws dropped and eyes popped. Thank you Bobby and Judy for welcoming us into Reef Nirvana.
Jeff and Richard Prince welcomed us to Jenks for Stop #6. While many of the guests enjoyed terrific cold home-brewed beer, Richard risked life and limb to flush into view the largest mantis shirmp living in tulsa. Thank you Jeff and Richard for organizing the Reef Tour and for welcoming us into your home once again.
Cowboy Sharkies was the last stop and welcomed OMAS with huge discounts and great fanfare.
I expected that the Reef Tour would be fun, but I absolutely underestimated its value. I learned much by being able to compare tank after tank, and very much enjoyed being able to have relaxed conversations about all things wet and wonderful with other addicted hobbiests with no time constraints.
Thanks again to Jeff and Richard Prince, the tour's hosts and those who attended for making today a great day.
Sincerely,
George Davenport
2007 OMAS President
