Title: OMAS Barbaque on Banks of Skiatook Lake - This Sat
GLD - July 16, 2007 11:27 AM (GMT)
The July '07 Gathering of OMAS will be fabulous.
Thanks to Dean & Wilma Harris, we will have a barbecue at their home overlooking Skiatook Lake, and then will learn much about Reef, Reef Tank and Lake Photography from Lee Parrish.
Unlike all other meetings, this meeting will begin at 6 pm, not 7. Don't miss the great food by arriving at the normal time.
If you have a camera, please bring it.
Side dishes are needed to compliment the hamburgers and hotdogs provided by Dean, Wilma and OMAS, so when you RSVP to george by PM or email, please describe the side dish that you would like to bring. However, please don't delay your RSVP until you know exactly what you will bring ... just a general idea will be sufficient !!
As Always, Raffle Items will be welcomed to enhance our monthly raffle.
I will send you driving directions when you RSVP !!
See you on Saturday at 6 PM !

If you need even more enticement re next Saturday's OMAS meeting ...
If a barbecue on the north shore of Lake Skiatook followed by a "hands-on" Reef Photography workshop do not entice you to drive to Skiatook for our July meeting, check out Tulsa Reefer's recent post on Reef Central:
http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.p...hreadid=1162195TulsaReefer (Lee Parrish) is leading the OMAS photography workshop at our July meeting!! Although he says that the pictures that he posted came from his recent trip to St. Kitts in the Caribbean, I think one or two actually are from his reeftank.
SO ... come to the meeting and learn how to take pictures of your tank so that your tank will look like Lee's tank !!
OK so I have stretched the truth (a tiny bit) re the origin of the awesome reef pictures that Tulsa Reefer just posted on the OMAS forum on Reef Central. Lee did take those pictures, but he was not swimming in his tank when he took them.
See you Saturday !!
Don't forget to RSVP !!
Best,
George Davenport

We just got in at 2:30 am from a trip to Ambergriss Caye. This is an island off the coast of Belize. Their claim to fame is the second longest barrier reef in the world. Did a lot of snorkeling at several spots including a marine preserve. And although we also saw a lot of tropical fish, I personally thought the reefs were in really bad shape. The gorgonians were alive and well, but the hard corals were dying. We saw some very large brain corals and a couple of huge Elkhorns, but there were many, many more dead and dying coral heads than healthy looking ones. The porites seemed to be suffering as much or more than the acroporas. There were random patches of some colorful porites, some bright blues and teal/creams, but they were mostly small scattered specimens with large expanses of dead corals. It was quite sad to say the least. I will make a decision later as to whether or not to make the meeting tomorrow.....a little worn out right now! Oh and sorry, but I had no underwater camera with me, so you'll just have to take my word for it. Good to be back in the USA!!!

I've uploaded the presentation slides from the meeting tonight at:
Reef Photography. It includes the link to a great site that has quite a bit of detailed info, but here it is as well in case you want to just go straight there as well:
Ximina's Photography.
The slides don't cover where to get the free software for windows to edit your photos. The program is called Paint.NET and can be found at:
Paint.NETI'll also be happy to help with any questions that I was not able to cover during the discussion or you may have come up with since the meeting.
Thanks,
Lee

Thank you Lee for a fabulous presentation !!
And thank you Wilma and Dean a terrific (and perfect) venue !!
In my opinion, last night's meetings was one of the best ever.
Lee,
Thanks for taking the time to prepare your presentation. It was interesting, informative and entertaining ... a rare Triple Crown in the world of presentations !!
Wilma & Dean,
Thank you for taking the chance that many of us never would leave your home once we saw the beautiful view out your western windows. Your home is equisite and your willingness to welcome (and clean up after) a hoard of OMAS folk is much appreciated.
Hurray for Lee, Wilma & Dean !!
