Title: Strange Videos from my last BF Expedition
Description: Oil/Gas Fields bet. Harrison/Hghtn Lake.

After we heard some howls, we found ourselves in the middle of a dead deer.
I proposed that it was a bear kill, or a bear find, and realized we might have been in the middle of a bear's evening meal.

Early in the morning, we were driving on an old oil/gas access road, and we happened upon this horrible sight.

Holy crap! That second one...is it at ALL possible that the deer got stuck trying to jump the fence, couldn't get untangled, and became dinner for something else?

Seems like the deer should be able to wiggle and twist out of something like that. It also seems like whatever was chewing on it would have dragged it out to get it on the ground. Think it was put there already in that condition?

The first one really looked like a coyote kill to me..we've had deer torn to pieces like that in just one night! Still...freaky.
The second..that's really strange. If I had to guess, I'd guess it was leaping the fence and got it's back leg caught and somehow came down like that...but that's just a guess. Perhaps it was put there also by somene just as a "joke". Horrible way to go, if it was the former...

The way it seems to be 'posed' I'd say it's some sicko as well paul.

The deer on the fence, I went back there two weeks after, and it is a skeleton on the ground next to the fence all eaten and stuff. I think that fence is a hunting park, or planned hunt thing, and they put that there as a warning to stay out.

I agree it was probably coyotes on the deer on the ground. However, the cause of death is still in the air. Natural causes, injuries from car accident, injuries from being hunted i.e. bad shot placement, some predator. But I was still concerned that a black bear had claimed it. It was still warm between Xmas and New Years, otherwise I wouldn't have even thought about it.

Yep Drew, the bears were still out into early January, at least over this way. One of our customers had 2 at their bird feeder the second week of the month! So...you were smart to be alert to the possibility, as I know that there is a very good population of bear in that area.

I am going up this weekend. If there are any areas anyone would like me to check out I'd be happy to drive by.

Good luck Drew. We don't hear of much in the way of activity in the winter(well...sort of early spring now), but would be interested to hear if you see anything.

Re: Deer on a fence video from 1st post on this thread.

I was thinking maybe a cougar was dragging it and it got hung up on the fence. It's not barbed wire or anything.Maybe the cougar couldn't get it over the fence so it just ate what it could and left it.
